Tiger Woods, as you may know, is a well-known prankster (although one of those pranks was childish).

This week, as he’s teeing it up with his son Charlie at the 2023 PNC Championship, he’s treating the kid like any other playing partner and playing a joke on him. While Charlie was in the middle of doing an interview with a reporter on the course in Orlando, Tiger was nibbling on a chicken finger. But instead of taking the last bite, he tossed it at Charlie, who handled it like a pro.

It’s a very funny clip.

Bernhard Langer and his son Jason entered the final round of the PNC Championship trailing by three strokes and wound up winning by two after a final-round 59.

“That’s just steamrolling people,” said runner-up David Duval.

The Langers finished at 25 under in the two-person scramble. For Bernhard, it’s his fifth title at the PNC – twice with his eldest son Stefan (2005 and 2006) and now three times with his youngest son, Jason (2014, 2019, 2023).

“Very special,” said Bernhard, who has competed in the PNC with all four of his children. “It’s always special whether you win or not, just being here is like the Olympics. They only take 20 teams and there’s probably 25 on the waiting list that would love to be here.”

Rain and wind that gusted more than 30 mph couldn’t the dampen the spirits of teams at the family-focused event. And with Tiger Woods and son Charlie back for a fourth consecutive year, plenty of fans braved the weather to catch a glimpse.

Here are five takeaways from a soggy but festive Sunday at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club:

There were plenty of highlights from Team Woods all week, but perhaps never has Tiger Woods beamed more brightly than when Charlie chipped in for birdie on the ninth hole.

Charlie, for his part, pointed toward the sky and pumped his fist as the crowd exploded.

“To see his reaction,” said Woods, “it happened right in front of me. He went right in front of me. He got excited and I looked over at Stricks and he was shaking his head. It was great.

“And then on top of that, to see Izzi (Stricker) almost hole it right on top of him. It was a great family atmosphere at that one little hole.”

Team Woods shot a 61 on Sunday to jump up to a share of fifth. Tiger drained an eagle putt on the fifth hole to jumpstart their round. They birdied five of the last six holes.

Last week at the PNC Championship, Tiger Woods hyped Charlie Woods’ caddie up by calling him ‘big dog’. The video was shared by the PGA Tour on social media platforms, which resulted in hundreds of hilarious memes flooding the internet in the next few days.

The PGA Tour posted the video on X (formerly known as Twitter), where the wave of amusing memes originated. In the opening of the clip, Woods greets Luke Wise, who was caddying for Charlie at the PNC Championship.

“Big Dog. Let’s go to work,” Woods tells Wise.

Woods doesn’t stop here as he proceeds to instruct Charlie to crop dust a particular cameraperson. He says:

“I’d aim right at the camera dude right there. Just crop dust him,” he says.

This leaves everyone standing around in splits. The 47-year-old golfer then sarcastically introduces himself to the person standing beside him.

Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods had finished T5 after shooting 19-under in two rounds. They were six strokes behind the winners, Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason Langer. They bagged $47,000 for the joint fifth-place finish at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club.

Woods was walking well without any sign of limping. He said he was working hard, which helped him recover in time. He also informed me that he had started training every day ahead of the new PGA Tour season.

Woods said, as per the New York Post:

“It’s been nice to knock off a lot of rust and some of the doubt that I’ve had because quite frankly, I haven’t hit a shot that counted in a long time.”

After making just five official starts in the last two seasons, the 15-time major champion is planning to play at least one event each month in 2024.

When did Tiger Woods last win a major championship?

Tiger Woods’ last win at the major championship was the 2019 Masters Tournament, when he shot 13-under to beat Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Xander Schauffele by a single stroke. The 2019 Masters was his 15th major championship title and his first in 11 years.

Tiger’s last win at the majors came at the 2008 US Open. This was also his fifth win at the Augusta National, placing him only behind Jack Nicklaus for the most wins here. Nicklaus has won six times at the Masters and also holds the record for most major championship triumphs.

If rumors are to be believed, Tiger Woods might have worn Nike for the last time, marking the end of his 27-year-old partnership with the apparel brand.

Last week, Tiger Woods and his son Charlie Woods competed at the PNC Championship. Tiger was seen sporting Nike clothes, including the iconic red polo on Sunday. Charlie, on the other hand, wore Greyson Clothiers’ apparel.

Following the first round at Ritz Carlton Golf Club, Greyson Clothiers shared Charlie’s photograph on their Instagram story. The story was reposted by the company’s brand ambassador, Larry Fitzgerald, confirming the young golfer’s deal with the apparel giants.

Prior to Charlie, Greyson already had deals with the likes of Justin Thomas, Erik Van Rooyen, Morgan Hoffman and LPGA star Alison Lee. According to several reports, Tiger Woods could be the next name to sign with Greyson Clothiers.

Earlier this month, the No Laying Up podcast was the first to predict the possibility of Woods splitting with Nike after the PNC Championship. No Laying Up podcast’s co-host, Tron Carter, was quoted as saying via Oregon Live:

When the 47-year-old golfer was asked about the reports of the possible split, he refused to speak much.

“I’m still wearing their product,” Woods responded, as per Sports Illustrated.

The rumors started last year when Tiger Woods was spotted wearing the Footy Joy shoes at the Masters Tournament, and he repeated wearing them at this year’s tournament as well. When asked about the reason, he said they provided better comfort to his legs, which were severely affected by the car accident in 2021.

Woods was quoted as saying, via the New Zealand Herald:

“I have very limited mobility now. Just with the rods and plates and screws that are in my leg, I needed something different, something that allowed me to be more stable. That’s what I’ve gone to.”

Tiger Woods’ relationship with Nike goes back to 1996, when he hadn’t even debuted as a professional. Since then, they have been synonymous with each other, and the golfer played a huge role in Nike’s success in the golf apparel business.

Their deal was initially worth $40 million in 1996, which shot up to $100 million in 2001, thanks to Tiger’s immense success. In 2013, he renewed the contract for $200 million.

How did Tiger Woods perform in 2023?

Tiger Woods didn’t play much in the last two seasons due to the injuries he sustained in a car accident in 2021. This season, he could only play in two official events on the PGA Tour.

Woods made his first start of the year at the Genesis Invitational, which was his first non-Major appearance in two years. He was successful in making the cut and finished T45 at 1-under.

Woods then competed at the Masters and successfully made the cut for the 23rd consecutive time. However, he pulled out on the final day due to his leg injury.

Tiger Woods underwent subtalar fusion surgery in April and remained out of action for eight months. Last month, he returned to the golf course at the Hero World Challenge, where he finished 18th. The PNC Championship was his last start of the year.

Charlie Woods wowed the crowd at the PNC Championship with a powerful 323-yard drive on the 13th hole. The hole officially measures 321 yards, but Charlie’s exceptional swing and precision allowed him to go beyond, landing just past the green.

On the subsequent hole, Charlie Woods faced a different challenge, as he lost the ball to the right. But even in that moment, his talent shone through. The ball found the right side of the fairway, traveling 232 yards.

Charlie’s average drive, albeit based on this small sample size of two drives, positions him above the curve for his age. His skill, precision and power on the golf course are undeniably impressive.

What did father Tiger say about Charlie Woods’s game?

After his son hit the powerful 323-yard drive on the 13th hole, Tiger Woods praised him during an interview.

“His speed has gone dramatically up this year. He’s hitting it past me now,” Tiger said.

“I’m just happy for him [Charlie Woods], that whenever he hits a shot that he wants to hit, that he’s able to pull that off and I’ve seen him do it in practice and it’s always fun and enjoyable to see him pull it off in a competitive environment, and I just see him just learning and growing.”

Tiger concluded:

“I think that people have probably seen how much he’s grown physically from last year and that’s the challenging part of it, is that trying to figure out swing path and clubs and fit and gram weights and everything’s a moving target right so that’s the the hard part.”

In the opening round at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Team Woods shot an 8-under 64. Despite their prowess on the par 5s and consistent birdies, the duo found themselves trailing Team Kuchar by seven strokes going into Sunday.

On the final day the duo improved their performance, carding an impressive 11-under 61 in challenging windy conditions. While they didn’t clinch the victory, their combined score of 19 under helped them secure a tie for fifth place.

The Woods duo have registered consistent top-10 finishes in the PNC Championship. The 2023 tournament capped another memorable chapter in the father-son’s golf journey.

What did father Tiger say about Charlie Woods’s game?

After hitting the powerful 323-yard drive on the 13th hole, Tiger Woods praised his son during an interview.

“His speed has gone dramatically up this year. He’s hitting it past me now,” Tiger said.

Tiger concluded:

Tiger Woods’ son Charlie appears to be following in his father’s footsteps. Everything seems to indicate that the youngster has a promising career ahead of him- having the greatest and most iconic golfer of all time as your coach certainly helps.

The two were back in action over the past few weeks in Orlando for the annual PNC Championship– the tournament which sees children of famous golfers pair up with their fathers for several rounds on the green. Despite expectation that Charlie and Tiger would go all the way, the two failed to win it this time around.

“Any time I get a chance to spend time with my son, it’s always special,” said Tiger ahead of the tournament in an interview with ESPN. “And to do it in a competitive forum, the last couple of years have been magical, and to be able to do it again, we’re looking forward to it,” he concluded.

Golf fans were once again blown away by the striking similarities between the two. On a golfing level, Charlie looks to be a carbon copy of his father, with a virtually identical swing and technique. It wasn’t just their technique that caught the eye of fans, though. Their stances, the way they lean on their golf clubs, their glances and even celebrations are all identical. The future is bright for the young golf star.

After a third appearance as a father-son duo at the PNC Championship in south Florida, 14-year-old Charlie Woods accidentally let slip a key insight into his father’s putting.

Tiger Woods and Charlie managed to finish tied for fifth at the tournament – shooting 19-under thanks in part to some short-game struggles on the first day.

When asked by Golf.com about how good of a caddie his dad is, Charlie mentioned that Tiger’s reads are not traditional.

‘For Dad as a caddie, his reads are hook-bias, and I don’t hook as much as he does,’ he said.

‘So all of my putts, I miss right. So I have to account for that.’

Analysis of putt lab data (via Golf Digest) found that Tiger actually addresses the ball to the right of his intended line. But thanks to a strong right hand in his putting stroke, he hooks the club face back to being slightly closed.

While not technically ‘perfect’, it is consistent – and Tiger has practiced it enough that it’s become natural and it works well for him.

On Saturday, the pairing only finished eight-under and blamed their work on the greens for a performance that wasn’t up to their standards.

‘I mean, I drove the ball really good today – I didn’t miss a fairway – and we still managed to shoot eight-under,’ Charlie remarked, adding, ‘We just suck at putting.’

Tiger agreed, following up his son’s comments by saying that he ‘summed it up right there’.

Sunday, they got their act together – shooting eleven-under on the day to finish 19-under for the whole tournament.

Bernhard Langer and his son Jason won the tournament by two shots.

The amount of habits and mannerisms that seem to have transferred from Tiger Woods to his son Charlie is truly uncanny.

Charlie Woods is generating quite a bit of buzz for how similar he is to his father.

As Charlie gets older they seem to be getting much closer together with the younger Woods already generating a lot of speed with the club.

They will be in action together at the PNC Championship.

Check out this video which shows just how alike the father and son are.

This week, Woods Jr will play from the 6,500-yard tees at Orlando’s Ritz Carlton Golf Club, which will also used by John Daly, Nelly Korda, Vijay Singh, and Retief Goosen.

The 14-year-old will most certainly be hitting the ball considerably farther than last year’s PNC Championship, and while data on his driving distance isn’t freely available, pundits who have seen him up close put it between 250-270 yards, given that John Daly has averaged 282 yards this year and Nelly Korda has averaged 269 yards.

“For the @PNCchampionship Charlie Woods will be moving back a tee from last year,” the Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“He will be playing the same tee as John Daly, Jim Furyk, Retief Goosen, Nelly Korda and Vijay Singh at 6,578 yds. @TigerWoods, aka Dad will play the tips at 7,106 yds.”

Charlie played from the tees reserved for pros aged 65-72 in last year’s PNC Championship, with Bernhard Langer, Mark O’Meara, Nick Price, and Nick Faldo. Annika Sorenstam, Justin Thomas’ father, Nelly Korda’s father Petr, and Matt Kuchar’s son Carson all off the same tees.

Gary Player, Lee Trevino, and Annika Sorenstam’s 11-year-old son, Will McGee, were the three players who used the most forward tees.

This week, all male PGA Tour players will be off the backs, measuring in excess of 7,100 yards, including Tiger Woods, who will be making his second appearance after undergoing ankle surgery in April.

“I haven’t done it in a while, I haven’t done it with my ankle the way it is now and I was excited each and every day to kind of get through it and kind of start piecing rounds together again,” Woods said after the Hero World Challenge final round.

“I haven’t done this in a long time so it was fun to feel that again. Every day I got faster into the round. The first day took me a while to get a handle on it, second day was faster, today was right away.

“And that’s eventually, when I play on a regular basis, that’s normally how it is. It takes me usually during warmup before I get a feel for the round. To be honest, that first day took me a while.”

ORLANDO – Tiger Woods, the father, isn’t that different from you or me. The 15-time major champ and father of two doesn’t like when son, Charlie, stares at his phone all the time.

“Put your phone away and just look around. That’s one of the things that I think all parents struggle with is most kids don’t look up anymore. Everyone is looking down,” he said when asked to name a pet peeve or something Charlie does that gets under his skin. “Look around you, the world is so beautiful around you, just look up. But everyone is staring into a screen, and that’s how people view life. It drives me nuts at times because he’s always looking down and there’s so many things around you that are so beautiful at the same time.”

Very relatable.

Watching Tiger in dad mode has made Tiger more relatable than ever. Golf fans have watched Charlie, 14, grow up in front of our eyes at the PNC Championship, a 36-hole two-person scramble that begins on Saturday at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. And grow he has the last four years.

“You can see how much he’s grown from last year. It’s amazing how much he has grown, has changed, and it’s a moving target with him, right? He’s grown somewhere near four inches this year, so his swing has changed, it’s evolved, clubs have evolved,” Tiger said. “And we kept trying to adjust things, and it’s been a lot of fun. But it’s also challenging for him because each and every couple weeks, things change. He just has – he’s growing so fast.”

chalie woods

“He’s leading the tournament in inches grown,” Justin Thomas said. “I can’t quite give him as much grief anymore because he’s close to beating me up.”

Tiger noted that Charlie is hitting it past him now, and just to keep things fair in this 36-hole competition, he’s playing one set back this year at a length of 6,576 yards.

Imagine trying to grow up as the son of one of, if not, the best ever to play a sport. And yet Charlie has fallen hard for golf and seems to be able to handle all of the inevitable comparisons. Imagine being able to learn the game from Tiger. Well, Charlie still has some mixed feelings about that. When Will McGee, the 12-year-old son of Annika Sorenstam, asked him if he listens to his dad’s tips, Charlie said, “It doesn’t happen very often. I mean, when I get desperate, yeah.

“Sometimes he doesn’t see it the way I saw it, which is fun, but I think it’s the understanding of how to hit the proper shot at the proper time. And that’s what all kids have to learn is when do I hit a certain shot at the right time, or how do I take stuff off a shot, how do I hit it a little bit harder, what do I need to do.

tiger wood and chalie woods

“You can do that at home all you want, but under tournament conditions, it’s just so different. And being able to share that with him, share my experiences with him in game-time mode, I think that it was great for both of us because I think we both are able to learn from it and grow from it. I think I learned to be a better teacher with it, and I think that he became a better player because of it.”

Imagine there being a blessing in disguise from Tiger’s accident. His injuries have prevented him from practicing as much as he’d like with Charlie but on the bright side he said he has been home more and able to watch Charlie’s high school matches and caddie for him at junior tournaments, which he might not otherwise have been able to do. This week is special for Team Woods to test their games together under tournament conditions.

“We push each other, which is great,” Tiger said. “And the needle is always out. If you’re going to be able to mouth off and give the jabs, then you have to be able to take it. That’s been a lot of fun for both of us.”

Imagine being able to get a wedge lesson from the legend Lee Trevino. After the pro-am, Charlie hit the range and when Tiger joined him, they made sure to visit with Trevino, who was digging it out of the dirt at age 84 at the far end of the range. They hugged, laughed, and traded stories and tips.

Imagine if Tiger and Charlie were to win the PNC Championship this week. JT has and he took a guess where it would rank for Tiger. “It would be No. 1 for special,” he said.

“Winning majors is unbelievable, and how he’s won his majors, but seeing how much he cares about Charlie and having Sam out here and him doing that together with Charlie and as he’s watched him grow up, it would be a very, very different kind of win that doesn’t maybe come with the record books and history and whatnot,” Thomas added. “I know it would suck for us because they would really rub that in our face.”

Imagine that
