Simone Biles is undoubtedly the most decorated American gymnast in history. Having 37 medals under her name from the Olympics and World Championships, Biles is the epitome of greatness. After making a solid comeback last year at Antwerp after her hiatus, there has been no stopping for the GOAT.

Now, the American prodigy is all set to make an impact at the Paris Olympics 2024. It was at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when Biles previously performed and pulled out citing mental health issues aka twisties. Since then, it has been a roller coaster of a ride for the gymnast.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Biles while talking about various factors disclosed what her conversation with her best friend, Rachel Roettger was. Rachel and Biles have known each other since the age of six in a gymnastics class at her home in spring. Ever since, the duo have been close friends who looked out for each other.

Roettger noticed her best friend perform from home and mentioned that her face wasn’t nervousness, but worry. An average human watching from home probably chalked it up to nerves. However, Rachel felt otherwise and sensed something wrong with Biles.

Anyone who knew Biles and the way she performed would know something wasn’t right. On a vault, Biles completed just one and a half of an attempted two-and-a-half twists and nearly fell when she landed. Soon after, she withdrew from the team competition. Biles, however, helped her team qualify for the all-around final and was the only athlete to qualify for the finals in all four individual events.

In response to her best friend’s text, Biles said ‘I’m not hurt, but I’m just going through some things.”  Furthermore, during the interview Biles stated that she received endless criticism and people called her a “quitter.” Even upon hearing all of this, Biles ultimately decided that the only worthy fight was the one for her well-being.

Biles is now back and better than ever before. Recently, she also disclosed details about her participation in the 2024 Olympics and the reality behind it.

Simone Biles opens up about her plan for Olympics 2024

Earning four gold medals for her stellar performance at the world championship last year, Biles did not let her fans down. In a recent interview with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson, Biles opened up about whether she’s appearing for the Paris Olympics or not. While she confirmed her attendance for the event, the gymnastics GOAT didn’t give us details on whether she’d be attending as an audience or a player.

Post her stint at the Tokyo Olympics, Biles took a brief break from the sport. But she has recently been sharing her new tricks on the bars through her Instagram stories. For the Olympics, it will all depend on the selection process, but Biles keeps doing what she does best for herself and the team.

Simone Biles, Olympic and World Championship gold medalist, recently shared with fans an adorable snap of her dogs cheering for her husband Jonathan Owens’ NFL team the Green Bay Packers.

Biles has two pet French Bulldogs, a female named Lilo and a male named Rambo. The gymnast often shares pictures of her dogs with fans, and someone even brought cardboard cutouts of her pets when she was competing at the Tokyo Olympics.

Lily and Rambo also have their own Instagram account, thebilesfrenchies, which has nearly 75k followers. In the most recent update that Simone Biles shared with her fans, the two can be seen cheering for the Green Bay Packers.

Both the French Bulldogs are dressed in Packers merchandise and are gazing into the camera looking adorable. Biles shared the photo to her Instagram story and captioned it.

The Green Bay Packers, for which Biles’ husband Jonathan Owens is a safety, will be playing the Dallas Cowboys in the upcoming days in the NFL wild-card weekend playoffs. The gymnast had been understandably excited for the match and has been active on social media rooting and cheering for her husband’s side.

Simone Biles’ ascent to success has been one of the most fascinating stories. With a childhood mostly marked by dealing with the foster care system and a gradual introduction to gymnastics, the star has crossed many hurdles to get to her goals. But how has the sudden rise to fame treated her?

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Biles opened up about various aspects of her childhood, going from rags to riches. While gymnastics occupied most of her life, her claim to fame was her stellar performance at the 2013 World Championships. It was all on autopilot after that. By the time the 2016 Olympics rolled in, Biles was already a hero, winning accolades at every level.

However, when asked about her tryst with fame and her opinions on it, Biles came clean with the reality. Having basked in the attention right from childhood, the star gymnast learned that things could get disoriented quickly. And while it’s exciting on one end, the pressure that followed was no joke.

At 16, her golden streak took the world by storm. Bagging gold medals one World Championship at a time, Biles caught the taste of fame sooner than expected. But you gain some and lose some.

For the icon, growing up doing what she loved involved a lot of apprehension and self-doubt. Despite the attention and immense following, Biles witnessed a shift in her perspective on the sport and her role.

With the Tokyo Olympics incident, where the star suffered from a dangerous case of ‘twisties’, the chaos that ensued over the internet was overwhelming. With fans coming to the gymnast’s rescue while many criticized her, Biles experienced the myriad faces of fame at that point.

So how did Simone Biles tackle the Tokyo Olympics chaos?

With the amount of pressure over her shoulders, Biles’ decision to withdraw was touted as the torchbearer to athlete mental health awareness. But it didn’t take away from the fact that the noise that the decision created was massive. Biles, nevertheless, paved her way through the chaos.

The gymnast resorted to staying in her lane, paying no heed to the comments, and focusing on her mental health while she healed from the incident. A lot of therapy sessions and a two-year hiatus later, she’s now all set to prepare for the next big goal – the Paris Olympics. While her participation is still on the fence, fans remain hopeful for redemption.

Seven-time Olympic gymnast Simone Biles is all set to be a part of the US women’s first national team camp of 2024. Including the legendary gymnast, a total of 26 participants have joined the squad this year. However, the new team will see the absence of some noteworthy names.

This year, the first national training camp of 2024 will have these gymnasts taking part:

Simone Biles, Skye Blakely, Ly Bui, Charleigh Bullock, Jordan Chiles, Lavi Crain, Ally Damelio, Kayla DiCello, Reese Esponda, Addison Fatta, Kieryn Finnell, Jayla Hang, Katelyn Jong, Kaliya Lincoln, Evey Lowe, Nola Matthews, Zoe Miller, Zoey Molomo, Marrisa Neal, Claire Pease, Joscelyn Roberson, Simone Rose, Trinity Thomas, Maliha Tressel, Tyle Turner, Lexis Zeiss.

However, the athletes not part of the team this time are:

Gabby Douglas, Shilese Jones, Suni Lee, Tiana Sumanasekera, Hezly Rivera, Madray Johnson, Jade Carey (NCAA), and Leanne Wong.

Fans can follow the team’s Olympic journey on Peep.

This year will witness Simone Biles competing in a couple of gymnastics championships besides the Olympics and national championships after her comeback in 2023.

The official roster for the U.S. gymnastics national team camp has seven-time Olympian Simone Biles, indicating that she may compete in the Summer Olympics. There is a discernible change in momentum, even if she stated in a recent interview that she wouldn’t be upset if she missed the opportunity to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where Biles can surpass Shannon Miller as the US gymnast with the most Olympics medals.

The Olympics mats haven’t always been a successful appearance for Biles who withdrew from the last Tokyo Olympics. After two-years hiatus, she returned with a rather clandestine US Classics performance showing off her honed skills one meet at a time.

Simone Biles expends her gymnastic prowess amid team unity

A recent Instagram update from USA Gymnastics and GK Elite, the American team’s longtime apparel sponsor, gave fans a glimpse inside the first U.S. women’s national team camp of the year. Few pictures were posted from the arena with the caption, “camp chronicles: first NTC of the year.” The first one featured 26 other gymnasts standing side by side, while Simone Biles and Joscelyn Roberson can be seen standing together.

Just yesterday, Biles shared her thoughts on the Paris Olympics in a recent interview with Vanity Fair. “If i don’t make it to Paris, it won’t absolutely crush me,” she opined. Was this Biles being honest about the toll that athletics has had on her mental health? Since, in the Tokyo Olympics 2020-21, the ‘twisties’ episode compounded to her last-minute withdrawal from all the events.

Simone experienced an online backlash that questioned her commitment and called her a “quitter” after she chose not to compete in many finals in Tokyo. Although, her mental health discussion gained much praise, prompting many athletes to speak up.

Despite all that, Biles overcame the labels and made a strong return last year to become one of the most decorated gymnasts in history.

2023 was Simone Biles’ year of resurrection

The 26-year-old gymnast first competed in the Chicagoland area before her formal return to US Classics for fair input from international judges. This helped her adjust to the new regulations that the International Gymnastics Federation had implemented in her absence. In her first national championship, Biles broke a record that had stood for ninety years by the late Alfred Jochim and won her seventh national title.

At Antwerp, she returned to her World’s debut venue a decade later, achieving a historic accomplishment by landing a Yurchenko double pike vault—now known as Biles II and her fifth named move. With 37 medals from Olympic and World Championship gymnastics, Biles is now the most successful gymnast of all time. Biles ended her year on a victorious note, with the excitement for 2024 Paris Olympics looming with each passing day!

The year 2024 has already begun. But, the staunch performances of top global athletes in 2023 are lucid in everyone’s memories. Awards, accolades, and recognition are making their way before another season of achievements starts in the Olympic year. As one turns to the gymnastics realm, who can shine brighter than the GOAT Simone Biles?

The 6x all-around world champion made her highly anticipated comeback in 2023 and took the world by storm immediately. However, Simone Biles returned to active competition in August, which didn’t leave her a lot of time in the year. Now, she is competing against the stalwarts of other sports for a major award.

Time to wait for the people’s verdict

People’s Choice recently added a tweet to its official X account, naming several top athletes for its annual honor. The tweet carried the caption, “Which one of these nominees performed at the highest level this year?! Vote now for the Athlete of the Year! #PCAs. http://bit.ly/3RVntT6 @CocoGauff @giannis_an34 @kingjames Lionel Messi @sabrina_i20 @simone_biles @stephencurry30 @tkelce”

The name of Simone Biles was also included in the list alongside the best sportspersons who didn’t just dominate 2023, but are perennial superstars. Although Simone Biles is the greatest gymnast in the world right now, her comeback occurred quite late in the year.

Moreover, the off-season of gymnastics began soon after she stood on top of the world in Antwerp. But, although she couldn’t participate in a lot of contests, she did ace every contest she participated in. Right from the US Classic, Simone Biles never made it seem like she was making a comeback. In fact, anyone who watched her routines couldn’t believe she ever left. However, the other athletes on the list are not far behind.

How does Simone Biles fare against other athletes?

Simone Biles won four gold medals at the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics Championship to extend her already massive world championship count to 30. She also exalted her gold medal records in beam balance and floor exercises. Interestingly, the other gymnasts have barely won just half the number of world titles as her. The highlight moment of her comeback came when she got a move named after her in Belgium.

While her achievements are nothing short of epic, other athletes also earned their way on the list. Lionel Messi won the FIFA World Cup alongside his home team Argentina against the defending champs, France. American tennis star Coco Gauff won her first Grand Slam this year after continuously climbing up the ranks of WTA.

Several NBA players also made it to the list. LeBron ‘King’ James of the LA Lakers, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks were the top stars on this list. Barring 2023 and 2019, these three men and their teams have been winning the NBA championship since 2015, with Curry in the lead with four title wins. Do you think Simone Biles will be able to win the 2023 People’s Choice award with such strong competition?

Coco Gauff has been nominated for the Athlete of the Year award at the People’s Choice Awards, an award that honors the year’s best athlete.

The 19-year-old had an excellent 2023, winning four titles, including her first Grand Slam at the US Open and also her first WTA 1000 at the Cincinnati Masters. She also clinched titles at the Washington Open and Aukland Open.

Gauff has been nominated alongside several exceptional sportspersons. This includes football legend Lionel Messi, gymnast Simone Biles, basketball stars Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Sabrina Ionescu, and Stephen Curry, and NFL star Travis Kelce.

Gauff was delighted by the nomination and shared her gratitude via an Instagram Story.

The winner of the Athlete of the Year award will be decided by public votes. The ceremony will take place on February 18 and will be shown live on NBC and E!, and streamed on Peacock

For the majority of gymnastics fans, Simone Biles has always been the GOAT of the sport. With her return to the arena after two years, her fans witnessed a moment of joy and relief. Her triumphant performance at the World Championship in Antwerp last year saw her secure four gold medals. This victory made her fans believe in the champion she is more than ever.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the 4-time Olympic gold medalist opened up about how gymnastics became a part of her. And how she never dreamed of being this famous and loved by her fans. Biles also disclosed how her parents used to have to protect her from most fans due to her fame. She mentioned that she had to deal with the anxiety that came along with her popularity.

In the interview, Simone Biles says that her thought process and everything else changed after she watched Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross, and Jordyn Wieber dominate at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Biles, from then on, was adamant about joining the same camp as them to be a better gymnast. She secured her first all-around World Championship title in 2013, and three years later, she became a world sensation.

Her performance at the Summer Olympics in Rio, saw her win four gold medals, which stands as an American record for women’s gymnastics at a single game, along with a bronze medal. However, Biles disclosed during the interview that the rise to fame that accompanied her feat was exciting, intense, and a bit unsettling for her.

While Biles faced an uphill challenge to get used to a new face, her parents found it even more difficult. They always looked out for their daughter, wanting to protect her from reporters, invasive fans, and photographers; however, at one point, it was completely out of their hands. While, on a lighter note, Biles compared herself to Taylor Swift and said:

Simone Biles always had to deal with her anxiety. However, what occurred to the gymnastic champion at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics was unfortunate. Through it all, after her recent comeback and putting up an impressive show, Biles admitted that she was not as comfortable as she thought she would be during her international comeback.

Simone Biles mentions that her comeback on the international stage was a little unexpected

The decorated American gymnast is all golden with her comeback on the international stage after her 2-year post-Olympic break. She told Vanity Fair about returning to the Paris Olympics. All while being in the feels after performing at the world championship. However, recalling the days of performance, Biles admitted that while she felt she was in her element, she felt the pressure and all her skills and practice were put to the test immensely

While she reminisced about these moments, she shared how apprehensive the environment had been. Yet the star worked through the twisties. She took control of her skills and bagged four golds at the championships last year.

Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in the history of the sport, has unlocked another milestone off the mat. The 26-year old has been nominated for her first ever People’s Choice Athlete of the Year award.

Previously, Biles had been nominated for the People’s Choice Game Changer award thrice, and won in both 2019 and 2021. For the American, this nomination comes on the heels of an incredible 2023.

This past year saw Simone Biles make a comeback to her sport after a two-year hiatus that began after the Tokyo Olympics. On her first event back, the 2023 US Classics, the gymnast looked like she’d never left.

She kicked her campaign off with multiple incredible performances, before going on to win a gold in the all-around, balance beam and floor, as well as a bronze on the uneven bars. She even debuted her Yurchenko Double Pike vault, making history as the first gymnast to ever land that move in competition.

Next up, Simone Biles displayed her prowess on the international stage, at the 2023 Antwerp Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. At the end of the competition, Biles walked away with four golds and a silver, taking her total World Championships medal to 34. This further cemented her place as the most decorated gymnast in history.

While in Belgium, the American also performed the Yurchenko Double Pike vault, and had the move officially renamed the Biles II, making it the fifth skill to be named after her.

Simone Biles is joined by Coco Gauff, Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Sabrina Ionescu, Stephen Curry and Travis Kelce in being nominated for the People’s Choice Athlete of the Year award.

American Simone Biles said she felt like a failure following a disappointing 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Biles was aiming for six gold medals at the Games, which took place in 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead, the 26-year-old won a silver and bronze as she suffered with the ‘twisties’, which gymnasts describe as a kind of mental block, in Japan.

“I wish I could sit here and tell you it was glorious,” Biles told Vanity Fair magazine., external

“When I took a break after 2016 [Rio Olympics], I had the time of my life. I was doing anything and everything.

“But after 2020, it was kind of depressing until I started therapy and got help.

“I felt like a failure.”

Biles won four gold medals at the Games in Rio as she won the all-round, vault, floor and team events.

In Tokyo, she won a silver in the team event and bronze in the beam but pulled out of four events to prioritise her mental health as she struggled with the ‘twisties’.

“Even though I was empowering so many people and speaking out about mental health, every time I talked about my experience in Tokyo – because it obviously didn’t go the way that I had planned – it stung a little bit. But all in all, it was the best decision,” added Biles.

She returned to gymnastics following a two-year break when she won the all-round title at the US Classic.

Biles went on to win four gold medals at the World Championships in Belgium in 2023 and, in winning her second, became the most decorated gymnast in history with a total of 34 world and Olympic medals.

On making the Olympics in Paris this year, she said: “If I don’t make it to Paris, it won’t absolutely crush me.”
