Ryan Garcia hasn’t been one to shy away from huge fights. After all, he went for glory against Tank Davis. Now, it appears he’s looking for yet another big opportunity.

Although there were strong rumors that Rolly Romero would be his next opponent, Garcia has revealed that he held a meeting with confidantes in order to determine who he should fight next. They landed on pursuing a Devin Haney bout, but a conversation with Floyd Mayweather Jr. changed Garcia’s mind.

Ryan Garcia talks Mayweather, Haney and Rolly Romero

Garcia told the story to FightHype.

Romero ended up going in a different direction after talks broke down, opting to fight Isaac Cruz in March. So now, Garcia’s full attention is on Haney. He essentially admits that talks with Haney are back on track.

During the interview, Garcia also sent a vicious message directed at Haney and his father/trainer, Bill.

With Romero in the rearview mirror, Garcia will do what’s needed to get a fight with Haney set. If it happens, it will be one of the biggest – if not the biggest – fights of the year.

In a recent development, Floyd Mayweather has spoken out about the Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero fight. The fight is expected to unfold on 5th May, later this year. Meanwhile, his new mentor, Floyd, has promised a spectacular showing.

After ‘King Ry’ defeated Oscar Duarte in December last year, he has been in talks with Teofomo Lopez, Rolly Romero, and most prominently, Devin Haney. However, Lopez declined the fight offer, and the fight with Haney fell apart publicly, leaving Romero as the prime contender. So, Floyd took it upon himself to promote Garcia’s upcoming bout.

Floyd Mayweather Garcia’s promoter?

Turning to Instagram, the former world champion shared a poster of the fight and penned a note for the boxing world. “@kingryan Vs. @rolliesss One the most anticipated fights this year. I guarantee this will be action packed. This one right here is bombs away,” wrote Mayweather.

It’s worth mentioning that the pair were first spotted together strolling through Las Vegas. Following that, Garcia backed out of a fight against Devin Haney, which started rumors in the boxing world of Floyd influencing Garcia’s decision.

Both Garcia and Haney had agreed to fight each other on X (formerly Twitter), going as far as tweeting at each other. However, following Garcia’s change in decision, Haney and Garcia started a war of words on the platform. Now, joining the fray, Oscar De La Hoya, Ryan’s actual promoter, has made his feelings known about Garcia and Mayweather’s pair-up.

Oscar De La Hoya responds to Floyd Mayweather – Ryan Garcia pair-up

De La Hoya and Garcia are engrossed in an ongoing lawsuit concerning Garcia’s contract with Oscar’s Golden Boy Promotions. The feud between them started after ‘King Ry’ suffered his first career loss and felt abandoned by his promoter when Oscar failed to show up after the fight. Since then, Garcia has taken a liking to Oscar’s former rival ‘Money’ Mayweather.

Initially, Oscar seemed fine with them getting together. He even asked Garcia to soak up all the knowledge he could get from Mayweather, claiming it could only have a positive impact on Garcia’s boxing abilities. However, that changed when Oscar turned to his Instagram story, asking Floyd to back off if he was trying to promote Garcia.

Golden Boy has worked with Ryan Garcia since he turned pro, and together have made him the biggest star in boxing. We will make his fight with Rolly a huge event, as we always do. Floyd, if you want to give Ryan the secret to defense in the ring, that’s great. Other than that, if you are still a promoter like it says here, f*** off,” De La Hoya wrote in his story.

With Garcia finally settling on his next opponent, Floyd and Oscar are seemingly vying for the position of a promoter – for Garcia. However, Garcia’s newfound fondness for Mayweather suggests the old rivalry between Oscar and Floyd is about to reignite. Why do you think Floyd stepped in to promote Garcia’s potential fight? What will Oscar do next?

When Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis stepped inside the ring on April 22, 2023, they shattered all records. As ‘Tank’ targeted Garcia with a body shot, the fight concluded in the 7th round, securing another victory for Davis in his record. However, it was not just the fight that made it stand out. The enormous numbers that it amassed had fans calling it a ‘super fight’.

The WBC released its nominees for the event of the year 2023. This list included fights like Errol Spence vs. Terence Crawford, Katie Taylor vs. Chantelle Cameron, Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou, Canelo Alvarez vs John Ryder, Naoya Inoue vs Stephen Fulton, and the Day of Reckoning which featured Anthony Joshua vs Otto Walin on the main card. What was missing from among the nominees was the Ryan Garcia vs. Gervonta Davis super fight. Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, was among the many who found it odd.

Leonard Ellerbe calls Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis the two biggest stars in the sport

The Garcia-Davis bout had accumulated approximately $22.8 million in ticket sales, drawing a sold-out attendance of 20,842 spectators. Orchestrated by Showtime PPV, the event had garnered over 1.2 million domestic pay-per-view purchases. This feat represented the most prosperous match for Showtime PPV since the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor crossover, which had amassed an estimated 4.4 million PPV buys. It was this performance that led many to question the legitimacy of the nominees’ list.

Nevertheless, Ellerbe expressed indifference towards the WBC’s decision to exclude this fight from their list, when a fan pointed it out to him. His focus remained on the overwhelming support shown by the fans, and the numbers that the fight brought in.

“it’s ok, The fans showed up, they tuned in and most importantly the numbers tell the story not someone with an agenda,” replied Ellerbe to a fan who was disappointed with the exclusion. He called out the council for working with an agenda. Further lauding Tank, he said, “Two of the biggest stars in the sport came together and Tank did his thing and continues to show you why he’s that guy and also the most exciting in the sport.

Though Garcia suffered a loss against Davis, he went on to revive himself in his next fight against Oscar Duarte. While things remain uncertain for Davis, Garcia is looking for his next event to pull in the crowd.

Is Ryan Garcia going to fight Rolly Romero next?

In a candid revelation, Ryan Garcia shed light on his recent decision to shift from Devin Haney to Rolando Romero. Addressing the speculation, Garcia clarified that Haney lost his opportunity, emphasizing the sequence as Garcia-Haney, not the other way around. Garcia affirmed his focus on Romero, with whom a Spring 2024 showdown was hinted at through a fight poster shared on social media.

This decision was presented as a calculated path to build anticipation and elevate the stakes for a potential future clash with Haney. When asked about the significance of the potential bout for Romero, Capucetti questioned if it could be the biggest fight of Romero’s career. In response, Garcia agreed with the thought. Regarding the expected outcome, Garcia was straightforward, stating, “I would defeat him decisively. I envision him with closed eyes.” His prediction was unequivocal, leaving no room for ambiguity.

Do you think this next bout would have the potential to appear in one of the top fights this year? However, do you agree with Ellerbe? We would love to hear your views on this topic.

Unified welterweight champion Terence Crawford has claimed that Ryan Garcia has no intention of fighting one of his American rivals, despite calling him out following his comeback win against Oscar Duarte.

Garcia knocked Duarte out in the eighth-round of their contest, bouncing back from a first career defeat against Gervonta Davis in April to end the year on a high and get off to a winning start under new trainer Derrick James.

In the post-fight press conference, Garcia named his next targets, calling out WBA Super-Lightweight champion Rolando Romero but also saying he wanted to face WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson and ‘beat his ass.’

However, in an interview with Fight Hype, Crawford doubted Garcia having any true intentions of facing three-division champion Stevenson.

Terence Crawford

“He’s not going to fight Shakur. Ryan, he is a good kid, but I just don’t see him fighting Shakur.

“Ryan wouldn’t take that fight right now. It’s Shakur against everybody in the [lightweight] division, I don’t think nobody wants to see Shakur right now, in his division. You can say whatever you want, you can say that he is boring, you can say he doesn’t punch, you can say all these things about him but I don’t see nobody eager to get into the ring with him.”

Any fight with Stevenson would likely need to take place up at 140lbs, and, with Stevenson poised to follow in the footsteps of Devin Haney and re-unify the 135lb scene, the chances of seeing Stevenson-Garcia could be low, at least for now.

As for Romero, he has been ordered to defend his title by March 2024 against the winner of Ohara Davies-Ismael Barroso to avoid being stripped. Although, the delay of that fight may mean Romero is granted an extension.

Getting the legend, Mike Tyson to not only acknowledge but also compare a fighter to himself is not a feat just about anyone can achieve. However, Isaac Cruz, the fighter from Mexico, made it possible.

Post Ryan Garcia‘s loss against Gervonta Davis, he saved his career by defeating Oscar Duarte. After the fight between Garcia and Duarte, Cruz in an Instagram story, tagged Davis and Garcia both with a picture of himself pointing toward the camera. This was nothing short of a call-out by the fighter. Davis has made sure to respond to it.

Isaac Cruz renews rivalry with Gervonta Davis

The feud between Cruz and Davis traces back to December 2012. Davis ascended to boxing stardom fueled by explosive knockouts and the backing of mentor Floyd Mayweather. Cruz, a late replacement for Rolando Romero, proved skeptics wrong as he presented “Tank” with a formidable challenge on short notice. The bout at Los Angeles’ Staples Center unfolded as a closely contested 12-round affair, contrary to expectations. Despite the tough competition, Davis narrowly secured a unanimous decision victory, showcasing the unanticipated difficulty of the matchup.

Davis reposted the story on his Instagram, but not without adding a hard-hitting response of his own. “I beat yo a** with one hand rock head,” wrote Davis suggesting it would barely demand any effort from his side to end the argument with Cruz once and for all. Possibly, we will soon get to see whether the claims are true or not.

Gervonta Davis

Fans have been demanding a rematch between the duo for a while now. Fortunately, it might finally materialize. According to recent reports, the rematch between Davis and Cruz is scheduled for the official launch of the PBC on AMAZON in early 2024. American boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis will once again face Mexican boxer Isaac Jonathan Cruz.

The exact date and venue for the rematch will be disclosed in the coming weeks. Gervonta Davis maintains an undefeated record, while Cruz has encountered two losses, one of which was against Davis in 2021. Popularly known as the Pitbull, Cruz surprised many with an outstanding performance in their previous encounter, displaying a formidable fight that pushed Gervonta to his limits.

After securing his win against Giovanni Cabrera, Cruz is on the lookout for his next prey. As he missed a victory against Davis in their last fight, he might have a chance to avenge his loss this time around. Which of the fighters do you think will be able to stand true to his word?

Ryan Garcia says he aiming for the WBA light-welterweight title after knocking out Oscar Duarte in the eighth round of their bout in Texas on Saturday.

American Garcia, 25, was back in the ring following his only career defeat, by compatriot Gervonta Davis in April.

He landed a left hook to Duarte’s temple which unsteadied the 27-year-old before further blows dropped him to his knees.

Ryan Garcia

“I’m committing to becoming a world champion,” Garcia told DAZN.

Fellow American Duarte lifted himself off the canvas after the count of nine but the referee stopped the fight to hand Garcia his 20th professional knockout.

Rolando Romero has held the light-welterweight belt since May and Garcia thinks he would be up to the challenge of facing the 28-year-old.

“That felt like a fight to me, like I’m figuring myself out as a fighter and I’m excited to keep improving with [new trainer] Derrick [James].

“I want to become a champion, that’s my goal. I want Rolly to be honest.”

Ryan Garcia returns to the ring for the first time since suffering a knockout loss to Gervonta Davis when he faces Oscar Duarte on December 2 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Garcia’s last fight was a blockbuster event that sold over 1.2 million pay-per-view buys, making it the biggest PPV of 2023 and cracking the top 10 highest-grossing PPV boxing events of all time. Unfortunately, Garcia was stopped in the seventh round by “Tank” and found himself in the loss column for the first time in his professional career.

Now comfortable at 140 pounds, and with a new trainer in Derrick James, Garcia will look to bounce back and return to form against Duarte. Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) remains one of the biggest stars in the sport but will have to avoid falling short a second time against an opponent who is looking to pull off a massive upset.

Duarte (26-1-1, 21 KOs) has won his last 11 fights by stoppage since losing a split decision to Adrian Estrella in 2019. It’s a huge step up in competition for him, but he’s more than up for the task of taking down the social media superstar and knockout artist.

Stay tuned as The Sporting News will provide live updates of Garcia’s return to action.

In a catchweight bout at 143-pounds, Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) bounced back in force with an eight round knockout of a determined Oscar Duarte (26-2-1, 21 KOs).

In the first, the taller Garcia was jabbing to keep Duarte at bay and to set up other punches. He would Duarte when the puncher would charge in with punches. Garcia also stayed on the move at all times. The second round saw Garcia continue the same trend. He got tagged with a hard left but took it very well. Duarte got up on unsteady legs and the fight was waved off.
