The car, driven bycccIt was bought by collector Alex Thornton who said the work was a “total labour of love”.

The racing car will go on display outside Stevenage Museum in his hometown in August.

Finding the car was a bit of a “lucky coincidence” said Mr Thornton, who works in the motorsport industry.

He was visiting a friend from the 2003 team when “I spotted it in the back of a storeroom – it was all in bits, completely in pieces”.

“I think it was under the stairs for about two decades; they meant to get round to restoring it themselves.”

It was loaned to the National College for Motorsport in Towcester, Northamptonshire, so students could understand how “things go together and, apart from that, it was almost gathering dust,” he added.

After two years of nagging, he purchased it, and then the project became “a bit of a labour of love, it was quite an adventure”.

Working with restoration expert Nick Edginton, they sourced parts from across the world and it now drives like it would have done in 2003.

“It’s a really important piece of history, we’re so lucky to find it,” Mr Thornton said.

“So the last thing we want is for it to sit under a dust sheet.

“We want to get it out there and hopefully inspire the next generation of kids to go into racing.”

His dream is to have it on long-term display in Stevenage, but this cannot happen yet as it would not fit through the museum doors.

“We might be able to fire it up when it comes to Stevenage,” he added, excitedly.

Former unified heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis has once again criticised Anthony Joshua for choosing Francis Ngannou to face him in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on March 8.

Lewis claimed that his compatriot was losing credibility by choosing the Cameroonian as his rival. The legendary British boxer is in the news not for what he achieved almost 25 years ago, but because he couldn’t resist when asked about fellow countryman Anthony Joshua’s choice of Francis Ngannou for his next fight.

According to Lewis, Joshua is losing credibility and, with his countryman returning to boxing after a period of inactivity for personal reasons, his opponents should be of a higher calibre. Joshua has fought three times in 2023. He has won each time, most recently against Otto Wallin. Now, for his fight on March 8, he has chosen the recently arrived Cameroonian Ngannou. Ngannou has only one professional fight under his belt, against Tyson Fury, in which he stood up to the champion in every round and left Fury on his knees.

That fight gave him enough confidence for Joshua to put his name in the ring with him. Both men are set to earn a huge purse for the Riyadh event. Ngannou is a martial arts specialist. He is a former MMA cage champion who moved up to the UFC heavyweight division. In 2021, he defeated Stipe Miocic to become UFC champion, but he later left the UFC. He has only lost three fights in the UFC and is now looking to make a name for himself.

Anthony Joshua

It’s not the first time Lewis has criticised Joshua for some of his decisions he’s made. He did so in 2018 when Joshua was one of the top boxers at the moment and the momentum was in favour of a fight with Fury or Wilder, two of the most powerful boxers at the time who Joshua was unwilling to face. As far as Lewis is concerned, Joshua’s real rivals at the moment are Fury and Zhang Zhilei, who holds the interim WBO heavyweight title. Joshua’s decision is somewhat reflective of the direction boxing has taken in recent times, with many boxers seeking spectacle and big paydays rather than any other official goal with belts and legacy on the line.

It’s a general trend, and not just AJ’s, and it’s reflected in the fight with Ngannou, an opponent who can be attractive but at other times hasn’t earned the merit needed in other times to be given opportunities like this. But that fight, or a series of fights over the next few months, has set up some interesting match-ups. Wilder’s underperformance in Saudi Arabia last December meant Joshua couldn’t fight him the next time around. He had to find another opponent. And, of course, Fury is busy with the most eagerly awaited fight of all, against Usyk on February 17, again in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Kingdom Arena will be the site of the ‘Ring of Fire’, as the fight has been dubbed. It will make history. There is barely a month to go before both fighters put a huge chunk of their careers on the line. Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) will put their belts on the line. The Briton is defending his WBC title in that division, while the Ukrainian is defending his WBA, WBO and IBF belts. Less than a month to go.

Lennox Lewis has questioned whether Anthony Joshua ‘deserves’ a shot at the undisputed heavyweight title if he defeats Francis Ngannou.

The British boxing legend, 58, is a three-time heavyweight champion and the last to hold the undisputed championship.

Joshua could potentially have a chance to become the best heavyweight on the planet after he fights former UFC champion Ngannou in Saudi Arabia in March.

Just a month earlier, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are fighting to become the divison’s undisputed champion.

Writing on social media, Lewis doubted whether Joshua should be given the chance to fight the winner of these two.

He said: ‘OK, Eddie Hearn, I know this is the promoter in you speaking, so I’ll break it down like the boxing fan I am.

Anthony Joshua

‘If AJ beats Ngannou, which he should, does that elevate him to a shot at undisputed? Beating Wallin and Ngannou? There’s a much better case for the winner of Joseph Parker vs Zhilei Zhang.

‘And if AJ gets through Ngannou, and Usyk wins undisputed, is the appetite for Usyk vs Joshua 3 out there? If Fury becomes undisputed, the man says he’s vacating all belts but the WBC and Ring so Fury in effect becomes last undisputed until someone else can Thanos them back together.

‘I still want to see AJ fight Fury and Wilder… those are big fights. But like I told Mike Tyson, if you keep fighting guys like Lou Savarese, you will NEVER be ready for me.’

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Frank Warren is prepared to make a sensational million pound bet with Eddie Hearn over their rival Matchroom and Queensberry companies.

The legendary boxing promoter was speaking with Mail Sport’s Charlotte Daly after the Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou press conference in London.

‘We’ve got to sort out the weights,’ Warren said. ‘Because there’s five fights, there will be a winner one of the teams will win unless we get a draw.

‘To make it a little bit more spicy, I’d like to have a wager on it with [Hearn] as well. [I’d be willing to bet] a million pounds.’

Boxing legend Lennox Lewis has weighed in on the upcoming heavyweight fight between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou, suggesting that the bout will add ‘zero credibility’ to AJ’s resume.

In a press conference this past Monday in London, England, Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou came face-to-face for the first time to officially confirm their blockbuster bout set for the 8th of March 2024 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This huge fight is set to take place just a matter of weeks after Tyson Fury takes on Oleksandr Usyk in another massive heavyweight clash on the 17th of February. It was revealed during the Joshua vs Ngannou press conference that the winners of these two bouts will go on to face each other later this year to crown the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Doubts over Francis Ngannou’s belonging at the top table

He’s only had one boxing fight so far, so questions have been raised

While Fury, Usyk, and Joshua have all earned their reputations as the best boxers currently in the heavyweight division, many fans have questioned the credibility of Ngannou being in the mix, having only ever competed in one boxing match to date.

After making the transition from the UFC, Ngannou impressed in his debut fight against Fury late last year, but ultimately lost the bout via split decision. But now, the Cameroonian fighter, who currently has a 0-1 record, could theoretically be crowned the undisputed heavyweight champion after just three career fights.

Lennox Lewis also raises questions over the fight

Following the announcement of Joshua vs Ngannou, Lennox Lewis, a former undisputed heavyweight champion in his own right, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on the fight.

Lennox Lewis, the iconic British boxer, has cautioned Tyson Fury in anticipation of his unified bout against Oleksandr Usyk. Fury faced a significant challenge in Riyadh against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who was making his debut in the boxing ring. Ngannou sent the undefeated champion to the canvas in the third round with a well-timed left hook. Despite a close call, Fury managed to rise from the canvas, securing a highly disputed split decision victory.

“That definitely wasn’t in the script,” Fury said in the post-fight interview, continuing: “Francis is a hell of a fighter, strong, a big puncher, and a lot better boxer than we all thought he would ever be.” Lewis was one of the few spectators who had Fury winning the fight; however, he had spoken out about his fellow British heavyweight before his clash with the Ukrainian unified world champion in February

In remarks shared the evening following Fury vs. Ngannou, the former undisputed heavyweight champion expressed that Fury appeared markedly different from his previous performances.

“So let’s talk about last night. I think both Fury and Ngannou surprised everyone, but for two different reasons. Fury looked nothing like the man in the trilogy against Wilder. Ngannou by far exceeded most ppl’s expectations. Basically, Ngannou won the night. Fury won the fight.”

Responding to a query about whether Fury was on the decline, Lewis disagreed but cautioned him against entering the ring underprepared for the upcoming challenge against Usyk.

“No… but i don’t think he went thru a full camp either. Better not make that mistake against Usyk,” Lewis

Weeks before Fury stepped into the ring for a 10-round non-title bout against Ngannou, he a deal for a highly anticipated clash for heavyweight supremacy against Usyk. Following the announcement of the decision in Fury’s favor, Usyk entered the ring, setting the stage for their upcoming showdown.

Despite the looming battle, Fury seems to be downplaying Usyk’s threat, asserting that Ngannou presented a tougher challenge due to his size. “He’s a smaller man than Francis; I always said Francis was a much more dangerous fight than Oleksandr.”

Usyk, a 36-year-old Olympic gold medalist and former undisputed cruiserweight champion, currently holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles, which he secured in a 2021 victory over Anthony Joshua. He defeated Joshua a second time and defended his titles against Daniel Dubois earlier this year.
