Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens was humiliated twice during the team’s NFC Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night at Levi’s Stadium as his wife Simone Biles watched from the stands.

Owens, 28, was first crushed by Niners tight end George Kittle on an incredible reception and yards after catch. That was just a football play, though. The real embarrassment came later.

Fans on social media had a field day with a clip of Owens flopping after 49ers tackle Trent Williams slightly pushed him.

Williams, 35, is a big man, but Owens clearly flopped after contact. Fans were especially angry due to his recent history with Biles.

Why do fans hate Jonathan Owens?

Simone Biles

Owens went viral last month when he appeared on a podcast alongside Biles and claimed she was the one to approach him via a dating app.

Biles, 26, never stopped suppoting her husband throughout the drama as fans said she deserved better. The Olympic gymnast will likely do the same this time around.

Owens flopping and getting man-handled by Kittle is more than enough to keep the hate going for a while longer, especially since Green Bay could not pull off the upset.

Women have had a star turn in the NFL this season. From Taylor Swift to Alix Earle, the wives and girlfriends of players have stepped into the spotlight on the sidelines and in their careers.

Simone Biles is no exception. The most decorated gymnast of all time, the 26-year-old returned to competition in 2023 and ended the year as the world champion. Her husband Jonathan Owens, with whom she tied the knot in April, has taken after his wife, turning in a stellar NFL season.

The safety began his career as an unsigned free agent. After a short stint with the Cardinals, he spent four seasons with the Texans, including the most productive year of his career in 2022.

The 28-year-old signed on with the Packers in 2023, and now he’s headed to the divisional round after No. 7 seed Green Bay secured an upset of the No. 2 seed Cowboys on wild-card weekend.

Looking for Owens on the field? Here’s what to know about his jersey number and why he wears No. 34.

Why does Jonathan Owens wear No. 34?

Simone Biles

There’s no rhyme or reason behind why Owens wears No. 34 on the Packers. Jerseys were switched around among the safeties when Owens signed with the team in May.

Adrian Amos wore No. 31 during his four seasons in Green Bay. He didn’t re-sign after the 2022 season, so his jersey number went to James Wiggins, who joined the Packers on a reserve contract from January to May. Wiggins had worn No. 34 before Owens signed in May, but Owens took over the number.

The NFL allows defensive backs to wear a variety of numbers, from zero to 49. Owens’s jersey number has always been in a small range, though. He wore No. 36 during his four seasons with the Texans organization and No. 42 during his time with the Cardinals.

In his college career at at Missouri Western State, however, he wore No. 3.

Biles doesn’t don a number as a gymnast, so there’s no way for the couple to match. But she and Owens have both found success since their marriage last April, Owens on the field and Biles on the met.

The Olympic gymnast returned to the international stage at the world championships in October, where she secured her 37th medal, a gymnastics record.

While Biles might be more famous than her husband, she attends nearly every Packers game, and she’s often wearing custom sweatshirts or jackets in support of Owens. Kristin Juszczyk, the designer who went viral for her custom puffer jacket for Taylor Swift, even crafted a personalized vest for Biles earlier in the season.

Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens learned a thing or two about being a star athlete from his gymnastics champion wife, Simone Biles, this season.

After the couple got married in April, Owens signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Green Bay Packers. He’s never gotten the chance to play in the playoffs until this season, as he’s taken over as a starter on Green Bay’s defense as they continue their campaign to the Super Bowl.

His wife’s criticism of his past performance has played a crucial role in his career year.

Prior to the season, while Owens was watching film of his play, Biles joined in and said her husband looked “slow” on the field, Owens told Tyler Dunne of Go Long TD.

“It messed me up because it’s like: ‘My lady is telling me this, so do I really need to…’ but she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to mental health,” Owens says. “When she said that, it kind of hit me: ‘Man. I guess I am.’”

Simone Biles

Biles has also critiqued her husband’s athletic abilities publicly as well, when she ousted him for struggling to do her gymnastics workouts in response to his claims that he’s the better athlete between the two of them.

“He has done my workout in the gym and he can barely do it, and then I went to their NFL workout and I crushed it.” Biles said during an appearance on Peacock’s 2023 Back That Year Up.

But Biles’ film critique led Owens to seek out the Packers’ team psychologist, who helped the backup safety re-wire his mindset on the field.

“I’m playing free,” Owens said of how he’s played after the intervention. “I addressed stuff that I didn’t know that I was struggling with. But she brought it to my attention. Once you do that mental work? Your mind is a powerful weapon.”

Owens was elevated to a key role in Week 7 after Green Bay’s previous starting safety Darnell Savage went on IR with a calf injury. With his newfound mindset, Owens has had some of his best performance as a pro for the Packers this year.

He had a career game on Thanksgiving against the Lions, when he had 12 total tackles and his first career touchdown on a fumble recovery, which prompted Biles to geek out on social media. She has made the trip to Wisconsin to visit her husband several times this season and has even traveled to watch him play in road games as well.

In Green Bay’s first playoff game against the Cowboys this year, Owens had four total tackles, as the Dallas offense only scored one touchdown in the first half and was held to just 16 total points when the Packers had taken a 32-point lead.

Now, Owens will look to help the Packers take down the San Francisco 49ers and take another step toward the Super Bowl.

Owens could use a championship ring, as he is disproportionately behind Biles in terms of hardware. Biles is a four-time Olympic gold medalist and the most decorated gymnast in history, while Owens has no major pro or college accolades at all.

Still, this hasn’t stopped Owens from claiming that he is “the catch” in the relationship.

The jokes basically wrote themselves when Rolando “Rolly” Romero took on Ismael Barroso.

On paper, it looked like an outrageous mismatch. Romero (15-1, 13 KOs) was seemingly in the heart of his prime, incredibly strong, and a whole lot younger than Barroso. The vacant WBA super lightweight title was on the line and Romero desperately wanted to wipe away the stench of a knockout loss to Gervonta Davis. Yet, once the bright lights turned on and the opening bell rang, Barroso began putting it on him.

It took the 40-year-old just a few minutes to earn Romero’s respect. After dropping him early, he fought cautiously. Wide-eyed and a bit unnerved, Romero took no chances and simply waited for the perfect opportunity. That eventually came in the ninth. Still, while referee Tony Weeks stepped in and waved things off, it was a controversial decision.

Romero skated out of the ring that night with his newly won title and a bright smile on his face. Barroso, in the meanwhile, was apoplectic. He was somewhat placated though, when the WBA sanctioning body allowed him to fight for their interim strap against Ohara Davies. In just one round, Barroso got rid of his man, taking home the secondary title.

Currently, Romero is replaying the night that he took on Barroso in his mind. Of course, when taking a hard look at his resume, Davis appears to be the hardest-hitting fighter Romero has ever faced.

Known as a deleterious knockout artist, Davis has given all but two of his opponents a trip to the emergency room. Romero was also on the wrong end of a knockout but that doesn’t mean Davis is some gigantic puncher. When recently surrounded by a group of reporters and asked to give his thoughts on who hits harder between Barroso and Davis, Romero made it clear that the old veteran is in a league of his own when it comes to power.

“By far, by far.”

Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens are spending time in San Francisco!

The Olympic gold medalist, 26, posted a cute photo of husband Owens, 28, hanging out with their French bulldogs — Rambo and Zeus — in San Francisco on Friday after the couple appeared to have made the trip to the city together.

“The boys in san fran 🥰😍🥹,” Biles fondly wrote in the caption to the Instagram Story snap.

In the photo, Owens smiled at the camera as Rambo sat on his lap on a couch outside and licked his face, while Zeus sat on the ground next to him. Owens also reposted the photo on his own Instagram Story.

Biles’ latest post with their fur family comes a week after sharing a fun photo of the pups wearing matching Green Bay Packers jerseys — in honor of Owens’ football team —  ahead of their first playoffs game against the Dallas Cowboys, which she attended, as well as celebrating the team ahead of the match.

In the earlier photo, the adorable canines posed in their green and orange jerseys as they lay down beside each other on the floor.

Biles wrote, “the dogs are ready for this weekend” and “GO PACK GO 🏈🏈🏈,” in captions over the cute image. Owens reposted Biles’ photo, writing underneath, “They ready!!!”

Biles, who is also the owner of French bulldog Lilo, spoke of her love for her dogs and how they “made my life better” in an interview back in 2021.

“They are just the best dogs and they make me so happy, and they’re my fur babies,” Biles told TODAY at the time. “My dogs have made my life better significantly. They have made me happy when I’m at my low and even whenever I’m at my highs, they make it feel higher.”

“They are the greatest asset that I’ve ever got and I don’t regret it one bit the amount of work it takes to have two of these little pups. I wouldn’t trade it for the world,” she added.Earlier this week, Biles also paid a loving tribute to husband Owens on social media.

She reposted a message from the account @3amthoughts that read, “To my man: I just want to tell you that I love you the most and I will continue to love you. I will always stand by you. I will always be there for you.”

“I am so proud of everything that you’ve accomplished, and what you’re about to accomplish. Thank you for loving me,” it continued. Biles added a single heart emoji on fire in the caption.

Speaking to Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com, Owens divulged that Biles expressed her belief that he was playing too slowly and thinking too much on the field:

Speaking to Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com, Owens divulged that Biles expressed her belief that he was playing too slowly and thinking too much on the field:

Owens went on to explain that after seeing a team psychologist to discuss what was holding him back, he has since been able to play without mental restrictions: “I’m playing free. I addressed stuff that I didn’t know I was struggling with. But [Biles] brought it to my attention. Once you do that mental work? Your mind is a powerful weapon.”

The 28-year-old Owens is in the midst of his fifth NFL season and his first with the Packers after spending his first four campaigns as a member of the Houston Texans.

An undrafted player out of Missouri Western State, Owens played sparingly his first three seasons before starting all 17 games at safety for the Texans last season and finishing with a career-high 125 tackles.

Owens did not begin his first season in Green Bay as a starter, but he was inserted into the starting lineup after Darnell Savage got injured, and he never looked back, starting the final 11 games of the regular season.

He finished the season with 84 tackles and one sack, and made some splash plays after becoming a starter, including forcing a fumble in a Week 9 win over the Los Angeles Rams and returning a fumble for a touchdown in a 29-22 upset of the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

Owens has played so solidly that he earned the start in the Packers’ NFC Wild Card Round playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys last weekend, recording four tackles.

It comes as little surprise that Biles was able to help Owens gain a mental edge, as she is arguably the best athlete in the history of gymnastics.

The 26-year-old member of the United States Olympic team has won seven Olympic medals during her career, including gold in the all-around and team events in 2016.

Biles entered the 2020 Olympics as the heavy favorite to repeat as all-around champion, but a case of “the twisties” caused her to pull out of the event and a few other events she was scheduled to take part in.

The twisties are something of a mental block that occurs when gymnasts lose control of what they’re doing with their bodies while in the air, which creates a potentially dangerous situation.

Biles was able to overcome the twisties and compete in the balance beam at the 2020 Summer Games, taking home a bronze medal.

She has also put herself in position to potentially earn a spot on the 2024 Olympic team, which speaks to Biles’ perseverance.

Owens has persevered in his own right this season, and he has helped put his team just two wins away from a Super Bowl berth.

On Saturday night, Owens and the Packers will look to keep their surprising playoff run going when they face the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round.

Simone Biles and Aly Raisman have been best friends for a long time. The two became close friends back in 2016 when they were teammates on the “Final Five” US Olympic team. At the Rio Olympics, Biles and Raisman won gold in the team events alongside their compatriots and also shared the podium in the all-around event.

Though they won’t be competing at the Paris Olympics together, Raisman is excited to cheer on her World Champion friend from the sidelines when the time comes.

In the same interview, 29-year-old Raisman also opened up about how proud she is of Simone Biles for still competing at the highest levels of the sport.

Simone Biles and Aly Raisman’s friendship timeline

Simone Biles

Simone Biles and Aly Raisman bonded when they became teammates for the 2016 Rio Olympics. While it was Biles’ Olympic debut, it was Raisman’s second Olympics and her second time captaining the American team,

Alongside teammates Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, and Madison Kocian, the two stormed their way to fold in the team event. Meanwhile, they also finished with medals in the all-around, with Biles taking the gold and Raisman finishing with a silver.

While the duo didn’t get a chance to share the Olympic stage after their stint at Rio, their bond has proven unbreakable. Biles pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics finals in 2021, and Raisman was one of the first people to speak out in support of her friend. The 29-year-old was even present at Simone Biles’ wedding to Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens, in May 2023.

While the two might not compete together anymore, they often get together in their free time, much to the delight of their fans.

Simone Biles over again proves she’s not only a champion in gymnastics but also in the game of affection. As the NFL’s divisional round draws near, Simone took to Instagram to share a touching message for her husband, Jonathan Owens of the Green Bay Packers, who’s gearing up for a crucial game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Simone Biles, recognized for her Olympic triumphs, has another area wherein she excels—her marriage. Her Instagram story highlights her inflexible love and guidance for her husband, Jonathan.

This came soon after a sweet, romantic gesture from Jonathan. He surprised her with three big bunches of flowers. The bouquet, a mix of red and white roses, along with pink lilies and carnations, was a unique display of beauty because it highlighted love, appreciation, and celebrating good times.

She shared the beautiful flowers and this display of love with her fans on Instagram. Just after that, she also posted a picture of the lovely duo together. This series of Instagram posts and stories is a peek into the wonderful relationships they share with each other.
