“I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps – I’m the first Simone Biles,” these are the first words one would remember when you heard the name Simone Biles. These famous words were quoted by Biles at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. From then on, the Olympic gymnast has been on a remarkable journey in her career.

Starting her love for gymnastics at a young age to now being known as one of the GOATs of the sport, she has come a long way. The most decorated gymnast has 37 medals under her name, which include 7 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals.

However, her journey has not been an easy one. And, winning all of this and who she is now is the only cause of her sheer dedication, perseverance, and love for the game. What was Simone Biles’ journey in gymnastics like, and how did she become the GOAT of the game?

The Journey of Simone Biles

Since childhood, Biles was an active child who loved running and jumping. At the age of six, she was taken to a gym on a field trip. This is where it all began for the prodigy. When she was seen imitating the performance of older girls, the coaches were in awe of her. They suggested that Biles too regular gymnastics classes.

She began her training program at Bannon’s Gymnastix in Houston with Coach Aimee Boorman. From being “just a brave child”, to conquering the world, this gymnast athlete is now a champion. Years later, at the age of 16, Biles has numerous medals under her name. In 2013 she won two World Championship golds, including the all-around title. She never stopped there but instead followed it with four world golds in 2014 and 2015.

2016 Rio Olympics

It was in 2016 when Biles got her opportunity to perform at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Before the Olympic games, in the same year, she won an all-around victory at the Pacific Rim Championships with the highest scores on vault, floor, and balance beam. Later, she won the vault and floor exercise, winning the all-around title at the 2016 USA Gymnastics National Championships.

On August 9, 2016, Biles led her team to victory in the team event. Even though it was clear that Team USA was the favorite, Biles concluded by adding the finishing moves to securing their gold medal. At the Olympics, Biles wasn’t known just as an athlete. She was a dazzling display of athleticism and power that captured the world of imagination.

Biles cemented her name as the ‘queen of the Olympic arena’ by winning the individual all-around title on August, 11th. She secured a total score of 62.198 by topping the charts in the vault, balance beam, and floor events. Biles put on a magnificent performance at the 2016 Olympics, and no one could take their eyes off her. She also won her second individual gold medal in the vault.

Biles received a bronze medal on the balance beam in the all-around competition despite finishing first due to an unexpected error. In the final of the floor exercise, she won another gold medal, taking home four gold medals that year. America’s sweetheart, Simone Biles, finished on a high at the 2016 Rio Olympics by tying numerous world records and set a new American record for most gold medals in gymnastics at a single Olympics Games.

The most decorated gymnast for her outstanding performance was chosen by her teammates to carry her country’s flag in the closing ceremonies. Those who witnessed Biles perform, could not believe their eyes. It felt as though she was defying gravity through her flawless moves.

Simone Biles defies gravity

When Biles performs, it’s as if gravity bends to her will, allowing her to defy the laws of physics momentarily. The reason why she is known as the greatest of all time is the cause of her gravity-defying feats on the gymnastics floor. The moves named after her, Biles and the Biles II, are indications of sheer artistry and phenomenal skill. Biles has enchanted her fans with her style, and skill she holds.

Comeback after a hiatus from the 2016 Olympics

Simone gave another stellar performance and won a whopping 4 gold medals for USA Gymnastics National Championships the next month. She was the first American to bag medals for all 5 events in the World Gymnastics Championships in 2018, all while fighting kidney stones.

Biles created history by dominating floor, vault, and beam events by winning 5 gold medals in the World Championships in Stuttgart. This earned her total achievement portfolio with 25 medals across 5 key competitions, making her the most revered gymnast of all time.

Tokyo Olympics 2021

This made her Olympic stint at Tokyo in 2020 as a performance worth the wait. Owing to COVID restrictions, she couldn’t participate in public competitions for a year. In 2021, she got public acclaim for her impossible feat of the Yurchenko double pike and won first in this game. At the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, she made the notorious decision to withdraw from the competition owing to her mental health.

Everyone lauded her for prioritizing her mental health during a time when sports arenas and players come under public scanner and battle criticism. She made an equally dramatic comeback, earning a bronze medal in balance beam.

Simone Biles’ much-awaited gymnastics comeback

After a long break, due to the twisties, Biles shared her interest in a comeback during 2023. Her name was announced along with others for the US Classic- a qualifying championship event. Having regained her composure and adversities, she made a victorious return in August 2023. She reclaimed her international stature and undeniable prowess in the sport.

She also pulled off the Yurchenko double pike, a move she hadn’t performed since the last Olympics. More grounded and in balance, she got her 8th all-around title. This achievement made her the only American to break the 90-year record of winning eight national all-around titles. The star grabbed four World Championship gold medals at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium.

These achievements have conferred her the position of one of the influential figures in the sports industry and the most revered gymnast. Her fans are now contemplating and see this as her possible contention to perform at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, nothing is surety whether Simone Biles will participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics as an athlete or audience.

“I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps – I’m the first Simone Biles,” these are the first words one would remember when you heard the name Simone Biles.

Simone Biles unfurls her celebration color, barring the engagements she holds in her professional life. January 27 was one such occasion when she unshackled herself. In the past, the gymnastics phenomenon often showed up at NFL matches to support her husband, Jonathan Owens, the Green Bay Packers’ safety. But all this while, the 26-year-old rarely let slip the insights regarding the changes in her life in the Olympic year. So after sister Adria’s birthday celebration, Simone Biles shared a snippet, describing the change.

Somehow those changes would give out a feeling as normal in a highest level-athlete’s life. But, for Simone Biles, to soak into those changes might claim praise.

Simone Biles shows the ‘other side’

Usually, Simone Biles’ Instagram feed gives out the nooks and crannies of her glittery life, in multiple shades. But on January 28, the 7X Olympic medalist shared a story framing the comparison between the Sundays of her life. Using graphics from Amanda Roe Heiser, the midsize-style icon, Simone gave a staunch expression. She described the “SUNDAY FUNDAY THEN” in the celebration hues, measuring in dresses and drinks. But she conveyed “SUNDAY FUNDAY NOW” through the flip-flop sandals, protein drink, washer, and domestic bag. This shift comes as “A sad story” as Simone captioned the post. But in the garb, it gave out the hard changes she is going through nowadays.

On several occasions, Simone Biles gave an insight into her life where she vociferously spoke about how the geographical distance between her and Jonathan Owens had depleted the situation for her. In his absence, the home front is completely on Simone.

One can not forget how Simone Biles took to social media to share the tantrums thrown by her fur babies when Jonathan was away and she had to manage all by herself. A fair share of her attention is also diverted to her new home, which is under construction. If these were not enough, amid all these, she has to keep her eyes set on Paris. Despite that, she has tried to bring back those fun moments.

In the recent past, she hung out with her girls’ gang, like the JC Penney’s photo shoot in November. That occasion witnessed Simone Biles being joined by Adria and the gang to share the moment. But these moments seem to have become too little for the gymnast in her present state. However, if there is sadness from the lack of fun, on the other side, there are moments of gains for the gymnast as well.

A new beginning is on the cards

One exciting new addition to the life of Simone Biles is going to be her upcoming house. The new house had come with a positive tone for her. So the visibly cheered gymnast often keeps sharing multiple snaps of the mansion since its construction days. Jonathan couldn’t make a steady appearance in all of those moments. But he remains another happy moment amid Biles’ ‘sad story’.

Whenever Jonathan had his off time away from the NFL engagement, the loving husband shared the screen and warmth with Simone Biles. As of now, this has been Simone’s story, finding moments among the gloomy days. But on the Paris Olympics berth, the gymnast knows about how to settle with a positive mentality. Hope, the future days will be on that quest.

American gymnast Jordan Chiles has wished teammate Simone Biles’ sister Adria Biles on her birthday. Adria, the younger sister of Simone, celebrated her 25th birthday on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

The 26-year-old Simone and Adria share a very close relationship. Although there isn’t much age difference between the two sisters, Simone has spoken on multiple occasions about how she is very protective of Adria.

Initially, the two had a difficult childhood as their mother struggled to take care of both her children, and they went for foster care. However, their maternal grandfather, Ron Biles, and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles, started taking care of the kids temporarily in 2000. After three years, they formally adopted Simone and Adria.

Since Jordan Chiles and Simone Biles have been representing the U.S. for a long time now, the two have developed a close friendship both on and off the field. As Biles’ younger sister turned 25, Chiles shared a picture of Adria from the latter’s Instagram (IG) account on her story and wrote:

Simone Biles

It was the latest picture posted by Adria on her IG handle, where she was seen celebrating her birthday by holding a cocktail and wearing a black top and light blue ripped jeans. Additionally, one can see a white winter wear on the chair where Adria is sitting.

A few days ago, Chiles and Biles were involved in a friendly banter where the three-time Pan American Games medalist cheered for the Dallas Cowboys over the Green Bay Packers as the teams met each other in the NFL Playoffs.

On her Instagram story, Chiles quoted:

It is worth noting Biles has been a huge supporter of the Packers as her husband Jonathan Owens is a member of the team.

Nicknamed Chick, the 22-year-old Chiles has been a valuable member of the U.S. women’s national gymnastics team since 2013. She played a key role in winning the team silver at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 for the nation.

The world has arguably recognized Simone Biles as their GOAT gymnast, with her achievements, accolades, and bubbly personality shining through. For the past few years, the icon has been organizing the Biles Invitational, an international-level championship to give those like her a chance to blossom.

The Invitational aims to promote young gymnasts across the globe so they get a boost to make it big in the sport. With a wide variety of events spanning three days, the 2024 Invitational will expect thousands of gymnasts competing for various titles. Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens are wasting no time indulging during the football off-season!

On Friday, the Olympic medalist, 26, posted a boomerang to her Instagram story featuring the couple sharing a toast. Biles held a purple drink in her manicured hand as she clinked glasses with Owens, 28, who appeared to be drinking a margarita. Owens stared into the camera in a gray shirt.

“Cheers to offseason,” Biles captioned the video, adding white heart and fingers crossed emojis.

Biles’ post came less than a week after Owens, a safety for the Green Bay Packers, lost a playoff game to the San Fransisco 49ers, ending their quest for a Super Bowl title this year. But Biles was a proud wife nonetheless, cheering on her husband from the sidelines of Levi’s Stadium in California last Saturday. The couple shared a kiss that was caught on camera.

After the Packers’ tough 21-24 loss, the gymnast shared a loving post to Instagram with encouraging words for Owens.

The NFL safety has played six seasons in the league. The 2023-2024 season was his first with the Green Bay Packers.

“Year 6 in the books!!” Owens added.

The 2024 US gymnastics season is all set to fill up the air soon. Winter Cup, US Classics and Championships, Olympic trials, and numerous more await the gymnasts and the enthusiasts alike. Now as the dates near the brink, one of the world’s most decorated gymnasts Simone Biles, has stepped up to bear presents in honor of the season ahead. And has done so, with some help from the cherished gymnastics brand, GK Elite.

Simone Biles and GK Elite have boosted a long-standing partnership, celebrating the legacy of gymnasts as a marking step. Beginning in 2015, the gymnast has often presented new collections and surprises for her staunch following through the leading brand of gymnastics apparel. Now, ahead of the new gymnastics season, the gymnast is back yet again with more to her name.

Simone Biles arrives with a surprise

Simone Biles and GK Elite recently took to their Instagram profiles to drop a collaborative post announcing a newer collection. “This is the drop we’ve been waiting for! @simonebiles Season to Shine collection is finally here and is all yours!” the caption read. In the shared carousel, the 7-time Olympic medalist adorned 3 different looks for the collection. A swirl patterned ‘Scarlet Starlight’ takes the first thread. A rich navy blue, with silver glitter lining the waist, named ‘Shooting Star’ frames the second while subtle white and blue tones with floral patterns, tagged ‘Moonbeams’ call for the third.

Each of the leotards carries the text, ‘Simone’ embossed to the left thigh corner. Over time, following multiple collaborative releases, the text has grown to be a signature, adding accent to every piece. While the collections inspired and designed in collaboration with athletes might be a known practice of late, Biles’ first collection held a different story.

A goal to inspire

Despite joining GK Elite back in 2015, the partnership saw an extension in 2021 and saw it in a different light. A few weeks ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles and the brand revealed that the partnership would include first-ever athlete-designed competitive leotards. The collection was named ‘Simone Biles Legacy’ and aimed at inspiring the aspirants looking up. “I am thrilled to continue my partnership with GK Elite as we work together to inspire the next generation of gymnasts and encourage them to pursue their own goals and dreams,” said Biles according to Business Wire.

Girisha Chandraraj, President and CEO of GK Elite Sportswear revealed that what impressed the team more than Simone Biles’ accolades was her dedication to growing the sport. Since then, the gymnast and the apparel brand have worked to put out numerous inspiring designs. A wedding homage, a life motto, or a holiday celebration, the gymnast has got it all.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens often find themselves wound up hundreds of miles away. Despite this, the couple always ensures that they have each other’s back through thick and thin. Fans recently witnessed this, as Owens had become the center of the controversies over his “catch” comment on the Pivot Podcast. While the two professional sporting athletes are bound by their commitments to their teams, they don’t forget to honor the commitment they made on 22 April 2023.

Jonathan Owens recently finished another successful NFL season as his first year with the Green Bay Packers concluded. This meant that Biles could now have her husband all to herself. In fact, her latest social media update conveyed that the 7x gymnastics gold medalist didn’t waste any time and vaulted toward Owens’ company.

Moments of bliss ahead of Simone Biles’ Olympic journey

Simone Biles added a story update on her Instagram wherein she shared a mini-boomerang video with Jonathan Owens. Captioning the video, Biles wrote, “cheers to offseason” along with a white heart emoji. The video showcased Owens looking into the camera as the couple clinked their glasses of drinks. The last time Biles got the chance to completely relax with her husband was during Christmas.

The duo shared a worry-free moment and even indulged themselves in a classy tradition to enjoy the festivities. Now, they are meeting without any imminent responsibilities after an entire month. But, with the off-season in effect, Simone Biles will have a long vacation before she gets the call to prepare for the Olympics. Hopefully, this will allow the couple to get some much-needed detoxification time from the various controversies they became a part of.

The constant whirlpool of controversies surrounding the duo

Jonathan Owens has lately been hot on the radar of netizens, who have been pointing out flaws in almost everything he does. Things started with a podcast interview where people alleged that Owens had disrespected Simone Biles. While Biles herself didn’t find anything disrespectful about the things Owens said, the internet had its mind made up.

Many angry fans didn’t even stop when Simone Biles asked them to. The heat from that podcast also seeped into his NFL matches, where Ownes’ posts got flooded with comments calling him Mr. Biles. Some genuine mistakes made by Owens, like his unsafe plays on the field, also caught more fire than necessary.

Throughout this, Jonathan Owens had the constant support of his wife, who was sure to take his side. Simone Biles even showered several words of affirmation towards Owens for all his achievements, both big and small. Finally, the duo will now enjoy some quality time and laugh with each other, as the off-season goes on.

Jonathan Owens is a safety for the Green Bay Packers and the husband of legendary Olympic gymnast Simone Biles. Owens is a part of the rebuilding Green Bay Packers that are in the thick of a playoff push heading into the final weeks of the 2023 NFL season.

According to The Sporting News, Jonathan Owens is worth an estimated $5 million. His net worth comes from his NFL earnings, endorsements, and intelligent investment moves.

Jonathan Owens’ contract details

According to Spotrac, Jonathan Owens is on a one-year contract worth $1,010,000 with the Packers. The Missouri Western State alum joined the Packers ahead of the 2023 season after spending the last three years of his career with the Houston Texans.

The rebuilding Texans decided to go another route, and Owens was forced to take his talents to Green Bay. The veteran safety has been solid for the Packers, and he is a significant backup of the team’s secondary.

How much has Jonathan Owens earned in the NFL?

According to Spotrac, Owens has earned $3,246,072 during his six-year NFL career. The former undrafted free agent earned $375,000 in his solitary season with the Arizona Cardinals, $1,861,072 in Houston, and $1,010,000 with the Green Bay Packers.

Owens entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, following a fruitful collegiate career with Missouri Western State University. Owens earned second-team all-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association honors and was named MWSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year in his final year of college.

However, these laurels weren’t enough to get him drafted in the 2017 NFL Draft. Owens going undrafted serves as a reminder of how competitive the NFL is and how some of the best players in lesser-known collegiate conferences go undrafted, with some never carving out a niche on the Gridiron.

Owens was signed by the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent. He has since enjoyed a six-year NFL career spent mainly as a backup with the Cardinals, Texans, and now Green Bay Packers. He will be looking for a long-term extension at the end of the 2023 NFL season, as he’s scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024.

What is Simone Biles’ Net Worth?

Simone Biles is an American artistic gymnast who has a net worth of $16 million. Simone is the most accomplished American gymnast of all time with a total of 32 medals to her name (both Olympic and World Championship medals). Simone is one of the most decorated gymnasts in world history. Many believe that Simone Biles is the greatest gymnast of all time.

Some of her most notable accomplishments occurred during the 2016 Summer Olympics. At those games she competed as part of the US team known as the “Final Five.” At these games Simone won individual golds in floor, vault and all-around. She won a bronze on the balance beam and another gold as a member of the US team. Simone has won the US championship a record EIGHT times. She won her first US championship in 2013 at the age of 16. She won her eighth US championship in August 2023, at the age of 26.

Unfortunately Simone struggled at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which took place in 2021 after a COVID delay, taking home a bronze on balance beam and a silver with the team. She partially withdrew from the games after a case of “the twisties” which is when a gymnast temporarily loses their air balance awareness.

Leading up to the 2020 games (before and after the postponement), Simone was easily the most-marketed US athlete in terms of endorsements. She earned an estimated $20 million from various deals in the years lead up to the games and contracts that extend into the future. More on these deals later in this article.

Early Life

Simone Arianne Biles was born on March 14th of 1997 in Columbus, Ohio. Simone and her three siblings were constantly in and out of foster care while she was growing up. Her grandmother started playing an active role in her upbringing in 2000, and during this period Biles grew up in the suburbs of Houston, Texas. Raised in a Catholic home, Simone maintained strong roots to Belize while growing up, as her mother is Belizean. To this day, she holds Belizean citizenship.

At a young age, it became clear that Simone was destined for a career as a professional gymnast. She was subsequently pulled out of class and homeschooled for the rest of her secondary education. This allowed her to train over 33% more, and before she had attended university, Simone was competing in the Olympics at the highest level.

Simone Biles

Career

Biles began her gymnastics career extremely early, and by the age of 8 she was training with coaches like Aimee Boorman. At the age of 14, she competed in the American Classic in Houston. She finished third. In 2012, she placed first at the American Classic in Huntsville. That year, she was named to the US Junior National Team. In 2013, she made her senior international debut at the American Cup before competing at the City of Jesolo Trophy and help the United States team win a gold medal.

A poor performance at the 2013 US Classic prompted Márta Károlyi to invite Simone to a private camp, and the young gymnast also started working with a sports psychologist. Better results followed, and Simone was then selected for the World Championships team. Another clear performance at the 2013 Artistic Gymnastics Championships helped her win another first-place finish. By the point, the 16-year-old was already proving to be an incredible talent, and she was outperforming international gymnasts that were much more experienced.

Things started slowly in 2014 due to a shoulder injury, but Biles bounced back with the US Classic in Chicago, winning the competition by a wide margin. She competed once moe in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, helping the United States claim another victory and gold medal. In 2015, she placed first at the AT&T American Cup in Arlington, Texas. This performance helped her earn a nomination for the James E. Sullivan Award. More victories came with the City of Jesolo Trophy, the U.S. Classic, and the US National Championships.

Along with other high-profile American gymnasts, Biles represented the United States at the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, winning the competition for the third consecutive time. By this point, she had won a total of 14 World Championships medals. A string of strong results continued in 2016, and Biles was inevitable selected to represent the United States at the Summer Olympics that year in Brazil.

Simone helped the US team qualify in first place that at the 2016 Olympics, and she also qualified as the top overall gymnast in four of the five individual finals. She soon won her first Olympic gold medal at the team event, and she followed up with a gold medal in the individual all-around category. She also claimed bronze at the balance beam final and another gold in the women’s floor exercise final for a total of four Olympic gold medals. After taking a brief hiatus from competing, she continued her gymnastic career with upgraded routines from 2018 onwards.

In 2022, Simone Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden.

Endorsements

Simone Biles has supplemented her gymnastics income with a range of brand endorsements over the years. Prior to the 2016 Olympics, she famously appeared in a Tide commercial alongside a number of other gymnasts.

In 2015 she signed an exclusive, long-term deal with Nike. That same year she also signed a contract with GK Elite Sportswear to produce a line of Simone Biles leotards.

In August 2016, Simone and her fellow “Final Five” teammates appeared on the cover of a special edition Wheaties box.

After her success at the 2016 games Simone signed lucrative endorsement contracts with the following brands, just to name a few:

Leading up and during the 2020 games, Simone was the highest-paid Olympic athlete in terms of endorsements. She earned at least $20 million from endorsements from 2019 through 2021.

In April 2021, just three months before the 2020 Olympics, Simone famously announced she had dropped Nike and signed with Athleta. Included in the deal was a commitment from Athleta to arrange a national exhibition for Simone after the Olympics, in direct competition with a similar exhibition that’s traditionally organized by U.S.A. Gymnastics. Simone and Athleta will also produce a line of active-wear.

Simeone reportedly left Nike because she no longer felt that the company matched her values. Specifically she was concerned about Nike’s track record of scandals, complaints from employees and other controversies that have dogged the dominant sportswear company in recent years.
