A Woods was back in the winner’s circle this weekend – but not the one golf fans grew accustomed to seeing.

This time, Tiger Woods played caddie to his son Charlie as the 14-year-old shot the best round of his fledgling career to win his age group’s regional qualifier for the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championships.

After opening with a one-under 71, the youngster rattled off nine birdies to post a career-low 66 at Mission Inn Resort in Orlando, Florida and stamp his ticket to the championship finale at Koasati Pines in Coushatta, Louisiana in November.

With rivals closing in down the final stretch, Woods displayed the type of calmness under pressure that saw his father amass 15 major championships, finishing with back-to-back birdies to triumph by a single stroke.

“It’s hard to think, ‘You’re tied for the lead, you have to go shoot a low round to win this thing,’” the 14-year-old Woods told tournament organizers.

“So just take it one shot at a time, don’t think too far ahead. Just gotta keep eating.”

And naturally, being able to call on the advice of a caddie with 82 PGA Tour triumphs was a useful resource, the pair pictured together in an Instagram post from Shane Croft, the father of Woods’ tournament playing partner Chase.

“It’s great, we just stay in our own little world and take it one shot at a time,” Woods said of his partnership with his dad.

“He puts me in my place. I’ll talk about the next tee shot and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re gonna focus on. Focus up, this is what we’re gonna do.’”

It’s not the first time the duo have teamed up on the course. The 47-year-old Woods was also on bag duty at last year’s regional qualifier, held at the same venue, where a then-career-best 68 round saw his son finish tied-fourth.

A few months later in December, the pair donned matching outfits at the PNC Championship in Orlando to tie for eighth in a star-studded 20-player field made up exclusively of players to have won a major or The Players, plus their relatives.

No Tiger at the Ryder Cup

Yet the 15-time major winner’s course appearances have been few and far between since, as the long-term effects of his February 2021 car accident injuries continue to hamper his playing time.

Woods competed at The Masters only to withdraw early, then proceeded to miss the subsequent three majors in 2023, undergoing “successful” ankle surgery in April.

It left him with a scant chance of making a ninth Ryder Cup appearance at the 44th edition of the tournament in Rome on Friday. American captain Zach Johnson did not rule out selecting Woods when asked about his potential inclusion in January, but – given his limited competitive appearances – a call-up never looked on the cards.

Charlie Woods

And while he remains on the “inner corner,” offering support via text, Johnson said Woods would not be traveling to the Marco Simone Golf Club to support the team in person as they chase a first away win in 30 years.

“He’s got a lot on his plate,” Johnson told reporters Monday.

“He’s the best player of our generation. Thankfully he’s an American. We are going to utilize his knowledge and his wisdom and his candor and his passion the best we can.

“When it comes to the week of the tournament, if you’re not in on it and inside the team room, inside the ropes, shoulder-to-shoulder with these guys, it’s not fair to ask him questions.

“He can give us insights, don’t get me wrong, but at the same time, I don’t know if that’s proper and I think he would understand completely.”

Tiger Woods 2023: Net Worth, Family, and Career

Tiger Woods Net Worth 2023

but it also makes him one of the very few billionaire athletes in the world. Woods undoubtedly owes his high value to his being a savvy businessman and his valuable endorsements.

Woods owes a lot of his wealth to his partnerships and sponsors. One of his most famous and valuable endorsement deals is with Nike, with whom he signed in 1996. Additionally, the golf pro is sponsored by big names like Bridgestone, Monster Energy, Rolex, and TaylorMade. The golf pro made $68 million off endorsements alone in 2022.

Woods has a sizable portion of his investments put into real estate. One of the most expensive of those investments is his house on Jupiter Island in Florida. In 2006 he spent a whopping $40 million on the property. But that wasn’t the end of it at all! He further went on to construct his $54 million mansion on the property.?

Woods also bought both his parent’s houses. In 2007, he spent $2.4 million to buy two plots of land in Jupiter, Florida for his mother. As per public records, in 2010, a $1.31 million home in Windermere, Florida, was listed under Tiger and Earl?s names.

Tiger Woods’ Early Life

Woods was born on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California. Named Eldrick Tont Woods at birth, he now goes by his widely popular nickname, “Tiger,” which was given to him by his father, Earl Woods, in honor of one of his close army buddies.?

From a very young age Woods began taking a liking to the sport. He became interested in golf at the age of six months after watching his father hit golf balls into a net and imitating his swing. His skills with a club were amazing and at a very young age, he began being called a golf prodigy.?

By the time Woods had reached the age of 2, he had become quite fluid with the game and even showcased his talent by putting alongside the American comedian, Bob Hope, on the Mike Douglas Show. One year later, while regular kids were playing with blocks, Woods shot a low score of 48 across nine holes. At the age of four, Woods flaunted his skills out of a bunker in a short game against a 16-year-old and beat him by four strokes. He was featured in Golf Digest as a 5-year-old, where his abilities were lauded.

Charlie Woods

Tiger’s father Earl was his inspiration to play the sport and was also the one who taught him how to play the game. His first official coach on the other hand was Rudy Duran, who began training him at the age of four and continued to do so for six years.

In 1994, Tiger Woods attended Stanford University and graduated 2 years later with a degree in economics. He turned pro in 1996 and took his first steps to becoming the golf legend that he’s now known as.

Tiger Woods’ Family and His Kids

Tiger is the son of Earl Woods and Kultida Woods. Although born an American citizen, Woods? heritage is part African-American, owing to his father, and part Thai, owing to the fact that his mother is from Thailand. His mother is currently 79 years old, while his father sadly passed away at the age of 74 in 2006.

Woods is the only child of Earl and Kultida. But his father had three other children before he was born. Earl Jr. was Woods’ eldest half-sibling and was born in 1955. He is 20 years older than Tiger. Woods has another elder half-brother, Kevin Dale Woods, who is 18 years older than he is, and was born in 1957. His third half-sibling is his half-sister, Royce Renee Woods, who was born in 1961.

Woods himself has two children, both with his now ex-wife, Elin Nordegren. His firstborn is their daughter, Sam Alexis Woods, who was born on June 18, 2007. Charlie Axel Woods, her brother and Woods? and Elin’s second child, was born on February 8, 2009.

Tiger Woods’ Dating History

In 2001, Woods first met his then-wife-to-be Elin Nordegren, a former model. The couple dated for a while before getting engaged in November 2003. Less than a year later, in October 2004, the couple tied the knot and were married in Barbados in an intricate ceremony. A little over five years later they went through a very public and scandalous divorce.?

CHARLIE WOODS

Woods met Rachael Uchitel in 2008. A year later, the two began seeing each other. Allegedly, Uchitel and Woods were seeing each other before his split with his wife, Elin.

Following his messy marriage, Woods started afresh with the American Alpine Olympic skier, Lindsey Vonn. The two made an attractive athlete power couple. They met in 2012 and began dating soon after. In May 2015, the pair split up due to their hectic athletic lifestyles.

Woods is currently dating Erica Herman, the former general manager of his restaurant, the Woods Jupiter. The two first made their relationship public in 2017 when she wore a player?s spouse credential at the President?s Cup. The two have been going steady ever since and have now been seeing each other for over five years.

Tiger Woods’ Awards and Achievements

Woods has one of the most incredible careers in golf’s history. Having turned pro in August 1996, he straight away began playing on the PGA Tour. Two months into his professional debut, he won his first Tour event, the Las Vegas Invitational, in October. Since then, the golf pro has gone on to win 82 times, the most any player has ever won. He shares this record with Sam Snead.

Less than a year after turning pro, Tiger Woods won his first major championship at Augusta in April 1997 at the Masters. He has gone on to win a total of 15 major championships, second only to Jack Nicklaus, who has won 18 throughout his career, a record Woods is certainly gunning for. Woods won his 15th major at the Masters in 2019.

CHARLIE WOODS

Woods is quite certainly one of the most accomplished golfers of all time. In terms of numbers, the golf pro has to date got his hands on 5 Masters titles, 3 US Open titles, 4 PGA Championship titles, and 3 Open Championships.

The PGA Tour star also holds the record for the most amount of time spent as World No. 1, at 683 weeks (just over 13 years). Through a strong resolve, tons of training, and rigorous hard work, the golf pro had earned the legend tag for himself.

Tiger Woods Documentary

All the avid Woods fans eager to find out more about the golfer will be pleased to know that the golf legend has a documentary. ?Tiger?, an HBO sports-biography documentary, aired in 2021. It focuses on his steady rise and abrupt drop, and then his comeback to the sport.

The documentary also explores Woods’ relationship with his father and the effect his divorce had on his career. Fans can watch the biography, which is split into two episodes, on HBO Max.

Tiger Woods? Car Accidents

Woods has suffered a dark fate when it comes to accidents. He has been involved in three separate car accidents, each life-threatening. The first came in 2009 when the golf pro lost control of his SUV and crashed it into a fire hydrant, soon after pulling out of the driveway of his Florida mansion. He was knocked out and lost consciousness for nearly 6 minutes. His injuries from the accident had been described as “serious.”

Tiger Woods

Eight years later, in 2017, the golf legend was arrested in Florida for DUI. The police had found him passed out behind the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz. There seemed to have been a minor accident before the cops found him.

In February 2021, Woods was yet again involved in a car accident. Due to a speed crash, his car had flown off the road. He was the only party involved in the accident. The golf pro suffered multiple injuries to his right leg and ankle and sustained injuries to his back also. He went through multiple surgeries for his leg injuries and has not yet fully recovered from them. Yet the PGA Tour Star found the resolve to compete in major championships in 2022.?

The Tiger Woods Foundation, Charity Work, and Philanthropy

Tiger and his father, Earl, started the TGR Foundation back in 1996. It first set out with the goal of helping children play the sport. But 27 years later, the foundation now aims to educate children on all fronts. They offer college and career programs to students and have, to date, helped turn around more than 2 million students’ lives. They further have one of the highest graduation rates among scholarship programs in the country, at 98%.

The Woods Foundation additionally hosts charity events and also sponsors golf events on the PGA Tour to raise money for various charitable ventures. The most popular tournaments among them are the Genesis Invitational and the Hero World Challenge.

Anything Tiger Woods can do, his son, Charlie Woods, can do better. At least at the very early stages of the 14-year-old’s golf career.

On Wednesday, with his father cheering him on, Charlie and The Benjamin School’s boys golf team won the gold medal at the FHSAA Class A state championship. It’s the school’s fourth state golf title.

The freshman shot fourth out of the five-player team, finished tied for 26th overall in the tourney and shot 78-76 over two days at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida.

In taking first place, Charlie did something Tiger never did in prep school — win a high school state championship.

The 2023 PNC Championship will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes. It will include several prominent golfers and their children /grandchildren. The championship has an interesting format where a professional golfer is supposed to collaborate with another family member showcasing a special bond in an inclusive family tournament.

The 2022 PNC Championship was won by veteran golfer Vijay Singh and his son Qass Singh. The father-son duo claimed the title by a 2-shot lead and defeated the formidable partnership of Tiger Woods and his son Charlie Woods.

The 1971 U.S. Open winner Lee Trevino will be making his 26th appearance at the 2023 PNC Championship along with his grandson Daniel. Padraig Harrington is also returning to Grande Lake and this time he will be accompanied by his youngest son Charlie.

The partnership of Justin Thomas and Mike Thomas holds the best odds for the upcoming championship with +300. They are followed closely by Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods, who have odds of +500 to win the championship.

Tiger wood & Charlie wood

With many talented golfers in the lineup, Vijay Singh and Qass Singh enter the tournament as clear underdogs with odds of over +2000, according to Vegas Odds. However, this was the case last year as well and the father-son duo had claimed victory then.

Tiger Woods set to make golf comeback along with Charlie Woods at the 2023 PNC Championship

The 2023 PNC Championship will boast an incredible field of players with multiple Majors between them. However, Tiger Woods will be the headline name as the legendary golfer hopes to make a return to the professional stage following a months-long hiatus.

He will be accompanied by the ‘young prodigy’ Charlie Woods and the duo are favourites to claim victory at the Ritz-Carlton this year. Woods will be hoping to improve on his T2 finish from last year.

“It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie and we genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all year,” Woods said.

“Competing together against a field of so many golfing greats and their families, is so special.”

With the 2023 PNC Championship just days away, stalwarts such as Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods will hope to make the most of their experience and claim victory amidst intense rivalry.

Charlie Woods has taken his opportunities in front of the media at the PNC Championship to get some jabs in at his dad Tiger Woods.

After their round on Sunday, where the Woods duo shot a 65 to put them at -20 for the two-round event, Charlie took the opportunity to make fun of his legendary father.

“Yesterday, that’s the best he’s ever played in a while. And that kind of shocked me,” Charlie said.

Charlie Tiger

On Saturday the duo shot 59 and held a share of second with Team Singh, chasing down Team Thomas. Charlie clearly wasn’t expecting that kind of performance. Tiger followed up his son’s remark by saying “I used to be good.”

Apparently Tiger and Charlie’s rounds are full of jabs being thrown back and forth. After their round on Saturday, Charlie said the fun remarks help to keep the nerves down.

“It makes it a lot less nerve-wracking in the final stretches because we always throw shots at each other,” the younger Woods said. “And it’s just very fun.”

Tiger agreed with his son’s sentiment.

“It’s literally nonstop. It starts pre-round. Before we even got here, the texts were flying. And then warmup, the jabs were coming out. And then throughout the round, there were jabs, there were a couple notes left here and there, a couple things said that we love.”

Tiger Woods has made his long awaited return to professional golf this week. He is playing in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, a tournament he hosts.

This comes less than eight months after having successful ankle surgery stemming from the car accident back in 2021. Not only has Woods mostly looked like himself walking the course, a big point of emphasis, but he also looks strong as an ox.

The Twitter account Big Boy Pants Golf took notice and decided to take a shot at the 15-time major winner.

“Tiger making his hat look like sometime you’d put two scoops of ice cream into and cover with sprinkles. Things starting to feel very Lance Armstrong-y,” they tweeted.

This account has voiced its opinion on Woods taking steroids before. That’s not what’s worth noting here.

On the top of the post, you can see that Phil Mickelson liked the post.

Phil-Tiger

There is no love lost between Mickelson and Woods. What started out as a friendly rivalry, in recent years has grown contentious. That was only amplified when Mickelson left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf. He has since become arguably the most vocal supporter of LIV, despite openly acknowledging the human rights abuses and atrocities committed by the source income of the rival league.

Nevertheless, Woods, no doubt, looks fit. He has even talked about how much time he has spent in the gym working out, recovering from injuries and surgeries.

But let’s not forget, Woods has been jacked for years. The early Tiger transformed his body well more than a decade ago. So this is nothing new.

Hello friends and happy Friday from the U.S. Open!

A few small notes right off the bat: this event has the best media center food I’ve ever had, the baristas are putting a fun touch on my vanilla lattes AND I recapped the Taylor Swift concert with Michael Greller and Bones Mackay.

Also, Los Angeles Country Club is a tough walk. I’m putting in about 17,000 steps a day and I still haven’t seen parts of the course yet.

I want to give a special shout-out to Salma Ibrahim, the junior reporter who helped cover the tournament on Wednesday. Salma hung out with Kira Dixon, met players and grilled Max Homa in his presser. I got to show her what a day in my life looks like on-site at a major championship, but I’m not sure she needed much of my help — she’s already a star.

I need to really take advantage of my gig now, because Salma is 100 percent coming for my job in a few years.

Charlie Woods at LACC

Tiger Woods hasn’t played in a U.S. Open since 2020, but another Woods was on property at Los Angeles Country Club on Thursday: Charlie. He’s gotta be the only 14-year-old with an inside-the-ropes pass this week. Trust me, those things are not easy to come by.

This is the only photo I’ve seen of Woods at LACC, which is pretty impressive because the golf world is obsessed with the kid. I can’t help but wonder who is in charge of the recent eighth-grade graduate out here. Is someone making sure he’s staying hydrated? Putting on sunblock? This is the supervision my little brother needs on a regular basis.

Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods

It looks like Charlie is having an all-time Los Angeles golf week. He teed it up at Riviera the day before making it out to LACC.

That swing looks pretty good, too. Not a bad way to kick off summer vacation! I spent my summer after 8th grade babysitting my siblings for free, but to each their own.

Phil’s kicks

It took me a while to get used to Tiger in FootJoys. Once Dustin Johnson started rocking them too, I pretty much thought I had seen it all golf footwear-wise. But nothing prepared me to see Phil Mickelson rocking Jordans on the golf course.

Seeing a 53-year-old man in those kicks reeks of Steve Buscemi in the “how do you do, fellow kids?” meme, but Phil has always transcended his age, so I have no choice but to respect his fashion choice here.

I checked out the Surgeon’s website, and he has a pair of kicks listed at $5,000 and another at $10,000. If you’re not sure how to spend your tax return next year, there’s an idea for you.

USGA’s jokes

The U.S. Open may be the toughest event to qualify for, but once you get here, the USGA is pretty relaxed. Over the years, the governing body has had its fair share of fun with players, from Max Homa’s giant credential to Webb Simpson’s locker nameplate. This year, they’re having a lot of fun with the players at LACC.

It started off over the weekend, when the USGA presented Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler with a tandem bike instead of their Lexus courtesy car.

Phil Mickelson took to social media to call out the PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, to leave his coveted seat, blaming him for not listening to him prior to his sudden and unplanned move to LIV, because he had asked Monahan plenty of times to bring bigger investors for better events with elevated prize purses. But Monahan paid no heed to his pleas.

Phil Mickelsom highlighted that the commissioner lost the faith of the golfers because the signing of the merger between the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and the DP World Tour was carried out under the table. Even Tiger Woods reflected on his frustrations on this matter.

Phil Mickelson

Like Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods Visibly Frustrated Over PGA-LIV Future

Woods, in a press conference post round one of the Hero World Challenge, talked about how the signing of the agreement was a shock to the players, and his inclusion in the management was a dire need of the hour.

While Phil Mickelson has lost faith in Monahan for his doings, Woods still chooses to believe him. “I did have faith in Jay and in what he could do going forward”. He concluded the interview by saying that whatever happened in the past cannot be repeated, and he will make sure that it never happens again.

It is unlikely that Monahan will be replaced before the PGA Tour gets financial backing for the next year. Either it would be LIV or some other contributor. For now, despite Monahan’s assurances, it seems unlikely that the framework agreement will be finazlized before December 31st.

Rumors have been swirling this week that Jay Monahan will be out as PGA Tour commissioner when the Tour’s merger with the Saudi PIF and potentially other investors is finalized. Phil Mickelson believes those rumors need to become reality for the sake of the Tour and professional golf as a whole.

Mickelson, the six-time major winner who bolted from the Tour to help launch LIV Golf, has made it clear over the last two-plus years that he’s very much not on Team Monahan.

Much of Mickelson’s rebellion against the Tour is focused on the commissioner given his power and his lack of change (deepening the pockets of players) until the Saudi-backed circuit came along and forced the PGA Tour to do so.

The post on X, formerly Twitter, that caught the lefty’s attention came from Bob “Golf” Ball. The lengthy post from Ball, a real estate developer from Oregon, began with the statement “Jay Monahan is out as commissioner of the PGA Tour” before referencing Joel Schuchmann, the Senior VP of Communications for the PGA Tour, calling for Monahan’s job.

Phil Mickelson

This led Mickelson to state that there is no path forward with Monahan as commissioner.

As for the validity behind Ball’s post, he followed it up with another one of a screenshot of a since-deleted re-post from Schuchmann. It’s a post from Pro Golf Critic calling for the resignation of Monahan and others.

Phil Mickelson’s Word Has No Juice

Ball’s post may have truth behind it, or it may have none at all. Nobody has reported that Monahan will step down or be fired following the agreement of the merger. Nobody has even seriously reported that that’s an option on the table.

What does have truth behind it is Mickelson’s opinion on Monahan has no, or at least shouldn’t have, any bearing on Monahan’s job status. Mickelson is removed from the Tour entirely, and based on the framework of the proposed merger, the commissioner will still have the head seat at the table of professional golf.

While many would say that Mickelson has gone from a villain to somewhat of a savior for professional golf over the last three or so years, it’s tough to spin him jumping on what appears to be nothing but a random rumor calling for Monahan’s job as a win or even a good look for himself.

Charlie Woods’ fledgling career is showing plenty of promise, but do the stats back up the hype?
