Tiger Woods refused to entertain a reporter’s question about his teenage son Charlie Woods following the conclusion of the Hero World Challenge.

Tiger Woods refused to confirm or deny whether his teenage son Charlie will caddie for him in next year’s majors after the conclusion of the Hero World Challenge.

Rounds of 75, 70, 71 and 72 gave Woods a level par total of 288 strokes in Albany, the Bahamas.

NEW: Tiger Woods to part ways with Nike Golf after PNC (?!)

By the time he completed his four rounds he was 18 strokes behind the leader Scottie Scheffler in the 20-man field.

But the victory for Woods was that he managed to walk 72 holes relatively easily compared to his most recent appearances.

The 15-time major champion displayed the occasional piece of brilliance alongside some noticeable rust in his first competitive start in seven months. He had not played since hobbling out of the 47th Masters in visible anguish which prompted the golfer to go under the knife once again. Woods had his right ankle fused which has alleviated the pain he was feeling in his heel. It’s the other parts of his body that are now sore, he said.

“I think the best part of the week is the way I drove it,” Woods told a pool of reporters on Sunday.

“I drove it on pretty much a string all week. Granted, these fairways are big.

“I felt like I had my ball speed up, which was nice, and I was hitting the middle of the face the entire week, which is nice.”

He said if there was anything he wanted to tidy up it would be his short game. Woods was also frustrated he played the par-5s poorly.

Woods also had a different caddie this week. Joe LaCava was hired by Woods in 2011 but he now loops for Patrick Cantlay.

Tiger and Charlie

His long-time friend and confidante Rob McNamara stepped in but in the future Charlie could be on the bag.

“I think he got an appreciation for how hard the job is” Woods said of McNamara.

“With so many different numbers and things that you have to calculate and how to stay in the present and stay in the future for the next shot and other shots and angles and winds, he got a better appreciation I think for how easy Joey made it look.”

A reporter put it to Woods: “Is there a scenario where Charlie could be on the bag in a major?”

Woods replied: “I don’t know yet. We haven’t talked about it.”

Pressed further, Woods added: “We haven’t talked about it.”

Golf fans will not have to wait long to see Woods back in action.

He is scheduled to play the forthcoming PNC Championship with Charlie over 14-17 December.

Phil Mickelson had previously told Jon Rahm he has no reason to join LIV Golf, but will no doubt be over the moon to see the Spaniard make the move to the breakaway league

Phil Mickelson has welcomed Jon Rahm to LIV Golf despite having previously told the Masters champion that he had ‘no reason’ to join the Saudi-backed series.

Rahm became the latest big-name player to join the LIV Golf setup, after signing a record-breaking deal worth a reported £450 million earlier this week. In doing so he follows in the footsteps of a number of fellow greats, including Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Mickelson.

On the back of his Saudi switch on Thursday, Rahm has received a number of well-wishes from his new LIV colleagues, and good friend Mickelson has become the latest after taking to X.

“In life you want good things to happen to good people,” the six-time major champion tweeted. “Happy for Jon Rahm.” Rahm’s move from the PGA Tour came as a shock to many, despite numerous reports linking the Spaniard to the rebel league in recent weeks.

Phil Mickelson 1

Previously the green jacket winner has rubbished his chances of ever signing with the LIV setup. Most recently he told the Golf Sin Etiquetas podcast that he would ‘laugh’ when is name was linked with the Saudi switch, and also revealed he had been told by Mickelson to remain with the PGA Tour.

“I laugh when people rumour me with LIV Golf,” Rahm said in August. “I never liked the format. And I always have a good time with Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia in the practice rounds of majors. Phil [Mickelson] respects my decision, and I respect his [choice].

“Mickelson has told me that I have no reason to go play for LIV, and he has told me that multiple times.” In the weeks leading up to Rahm’s move, Fire Pit Collective’s Alan Shipnuck claimed Mickelson had already been confirming that a deal was done, a report the former PGA champion went on to play down.

Phil Mickelson

Rahm himself was quizzed on whether Mickelson had played any part in his change of heart, but insisted he had held no conversations with his good friend. “[Mickelson played] no role at all. All those players on LIV are finding out shortly after we’re doing this Q&A. No role at all.

“He’s somebody I lean on to for advice as I’ve always done but not somebody I’ve talked to. I know he wishes I could’ve talked to him but it’s not something I could’ve done.” It remains to be seen what the future holds for Rahm’s PGA Tour and DP World Tour career on the back of his Saudi switch.

With negotiations between the PGA Tour and Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) ongoing, Rahm hopes he can play across all three tours when a deal is finally signed off. “I do want to maintain my PGA Tour and DP World Tour status,” he claimed.

“I will not give that up. Hopefully with the freedom LIV gives me I can play both those tours. There are certain PGA Tour events I want to play as long as my schedule allows. If possible, I want to make that happen.”

As the golf world prepares for the 2024 season, the much-talked-about LIV Golf League has been progressing ahead with its promotions’ tournament at the Abu Dhabi Golf Course. The top three winners of this event are set to win membership in the upcoming season of the Saudi-backed golf giant.

James Piot of the HyFlyers GC was one of the contenders in this race to earn a full-time spot in the 2024 edition of the league. However, a recently revealed roster of the playing field for the final round has revealed that Piot has been left out of the race for membership, leaving Phil Mickelson in a dilemma.

As the LIV Golf Promotions progress, new possibilities seem to line up. The event is huge step towards higher acceptance for the golf league in its infancy stage. This is because big names from the PGA Tour as well as the DP World Tour have lined up in the quest to find a spot in its upcoming season. However, James Piot’s destiny at the tournament did not rule in his favor, resulting in the 25-year-old saying goodbye to the 2024 season.

Phil Mickelson 7

The Michigan-based professional golfer joined LIV Golf in 2022. He has been a part of Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC throughout the last season. However, his inability to make it back this season has led to a personnel search for Lefty.

It is still a matter of mystery as to who will be the lucky three golfers to earn the highly coveted membership card for the coming season. Unlike Phil Mickelson, the release of the top 20 progressing into the finals has put Cameron Smith in a somewhat relaxed state. This is because his former teammate, Jediah Morgan, has made it onto the list and can potentially fill one spot on his team.

Amidst the ongoing big trades that have occurred ahead of the LIV Golf 2024 season, surely anything is possible. One such unexpected big change was Jon Rahm’s shift to LIV Golf after signing a $600 million contract. On its way toward greater prominence, the roster for the final round of the new-age LIV Golf’s adaptation of Q-School has all eyes set on it.

Delving deeper into the playing field for Sunday

LIV Golf’s attempt to rise above its formerly famous closeted identity has manifested itself in the promotion tournaments. As the promotions go on in full swing, the PGA Tour’s former rival is now on the last string to declare the names of the top golfers who will make it to their upcoming season.

The list of the top 20 players who are set to play in the third and final round has surfaced. They will be playing on a 36-hole field with extreme precision. Here is the playing field for the deciding round:

Alongside Benjamin coach Toby Harbeck (left), 14 year-old Charlie Woods (middle) shows off his trophy haul after shooting a 102 to be the individual champ of the SFPGA’s West Coast High School tournament at Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club in Naples on Sept. 30, 2023.

Golf fans who have been following the growth of Charlie Woods, the son of Tiger Woods, may have been wondering where and if the golf star-in-the-making would play at the high school level.

The Benjamin School, located in Palm Beach Gardens, was the lucky winner and has reaped benefits from his prowess already.

After clinching the West Coast High School Tournament, hosted by the South Florida PGA Junior Tour, on Saturday afternoon, the Buccaneer boys golf team is well on its way to what it hopes will be a fourth state championship with the 14-year-old freshman prodigy.

Charlie was the two-day tournament’s individual champ at Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club in Naples.

Seniors Aiden Miller and Tyler Bruneau tied for second, as Luke Wise came in fourth. Travis Robertson, another Benjamin senior, shot two over before withdrawing.

Charlie’s performance marks his second low-round outing since the weekend prior at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship Last Chance Florida Regional, held at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, where Benjamin will head for the high school state championship tournament this fall.

With Tiger caddying and final scores of 71 and 66 − a second round highlighted by nine birdies to tie his career-best − Charlie won the junior regional qualifier in the boys 14-15 age division to advance to the national championship in Coushatta, Louisiana.

The event, set to begin on Nov. 4, will conclude on Nov. 6, which is the same day Florida High School Athletic Association golf state championships kick off before teams and individual champions are determined on Nov. 15.

Charlie Woods

Last Sunday in a post-match interview, after shaving two strokes from his 2022 tournament scorecard of 68, Charlie only had positive reviews of Mission Inn Resort’s El Campeon course.

Woods told tournament host Ryan Burr: “This course is great for me.”

High school rules and regulations may keep dad off the bag when Charlie’s inaugural run at a varsity state championship comes in November. However, the Bucs can feel confident with a well-tenured “rookie” in the lineup

There is no dearth of bizarre laws in golf. Obscure rules that even players are not well aware of – ask Morikawa about Model Local Rule G11. But rules for the audience? The 2023 PNC Championship has done just that. The tournament guidelines have strict orders for the audience – orders that will leave your mouth agape.

While every PGA Tour has some mandatory guidelines, the PNC Championship, a two-player scramble format tournament, outmatches them. So if you are planning to visit the Ritz Carlton Golf Club next week, know about these three rules beforehand, lest they ruin your experience later.

Three Bizarre Rules at the 2023 PNC Championship

Keep your cameras at home

chalie woods

You are not allowed to take pictures or record the proceedings of the event during the PNC Championship. So, take your camera out of your backpack before coming to the Ritz Carlton Golf Club.

And if you are thinking you can use your mobile let’s just clear the air. You can bring your cellphone to the course, but keep it silent, and don’t try to use your phone’s camera. It’s also prohibited. Before you ask, no, selfie sticks won’t be allowed either. You can only take pictures at the Pro-Am on Thursday and Friday, though. So, have you bought your ground pass? Because you can’t work your way through here with PGA Cards.

No special privilege to PGA Card holders

PNC Championship offers a limited number of seats to the audience. So, no special access to the course if you are already a PGA card holder. You need to buy your ground pass or the Champions Club pass before heading to the Orlando venue. The Grounds Access pass starts from $35 and the Champions pass comes at $375. However, PGA members have the option to reserve one complimentary grounds ticket. It should be noted that no tickets will be sold at the gate.

Don’t pester golfers for autographs

Put your thoughts on getting Tiger Woods’s autograph to rest. Asking PGA Tour pros for autographs is not allowed at the PNC Championship. The organizers request everyone to “leave all memorabilia including pin flags, photos, trading cards, balls and other sports paraphernalia at home as they will not be allowed through the gate.” Since the players appear with their parents/children, the organizers do not want to cause any trouble of fanfare that the Tour players might be used to, but their families do not.

The 2023 PNC Championship will tee off on December 14. Past winners, Justin Thomas, John Daly, and Vijay Singh have confirmed their participation in the parent/child tournament. Tiger Woods, too, will be present with Charlie Woods in what will be their fifth outing.

The Woods family trophy cabinet expanded once again Wednesday, with Charlie Woods clinching a high school state golf championship gold medal. The Benjamin School’s boys team, with the freshman Woods posting a 78-76 over two days, secured the Florida High School Athletic Association Class A state championship at Mission Resort + Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida.

Charlie Woods, 14, finished in a tie for 26th as an individual. He was fourth among the Benjamin team’s five golfers. The Benjamin School, located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, claimed its fourth state golf title.

In attendance to support his son was Tiger Woods himself, who never won a state high school championship during his time at Western High School in Anaheim, California. While Tiger may have been limited by the fact that the California Interscholastic Federation did not award state championships during his time in high school, he will have to face the fact that Charlie has already done something in the game of golf he never did.

Instead, Tiger Woods won the CIF SoCal Regional in 1991 and claimed the Southern Section medalist title in 1991, 1993, and 1994. During this period, Tiger Woods became the then-youngest golfer to win the U.S. Junior Amateur, claiming the first of his three titles in 1991.

Charlie’s championship triumph occurred just days after Tiger, 47, served as his caddy at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf Championship in Louisiana. Charlie had earned his place in the Junior Golf Championship by securing an age group victory in the second round of the Last Chance Regional in September.

In a post-round interview following the victory, Charlie expressed his joy at having his father’s support on the golf course.

“We just stay in our own little world,” Charlie said at the time, acknowledging that his dad “puts me in my place” when needed. “I’ll talk about the next tee shot, and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re going to focus on. Focus up. This is what we’re gonna do.'”

Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods

Sophomore Jake Valentine played a pivotal role in the Benjamin team’s success, sealing the title with a 72-76 performance to tie for eighth place overall. The decisive moments included a crucial birdie on No. 17 and a putt on the final hole.

Tiger’s immediate future for his own game remains unknown, but fans will be able to see the 82-time PGA TOUR winner tee it up again in the TGL come January. Tiger can only hope that his TGL team, Jupiter Links GC, can have as much immediate success as Charlie.

The 15-time major champ once again caddied for his son, this time at a regional qualifier for the Notah Begay III National Championship. Charlie won the 14-15 age division at Mission Inn in Orlando with scores of 71 and 66—and he made a clutch birdie on the final two holes to secure the one-shot victory. Have a look:“It’s great. We just stay in our own little world,” Charlie told tournament host Ryan Burr after about having his dad caddie for him. “We take it one shot at a time. He puts me in my place.”

The golf world has been building up a lot of hype owing to Tiger Woods, the legend of the game, making a comeback to the sport. With an exciting end to the year in store coupled with the professional’s return to the greens, many would be looking forward to how he fares on the same after spending his recovery time carrying the bags for his son Charlie Woods

And, as the golfer aims to make it back to the top of his game starting with the upcoming Hero World Challenge, nothing has been confirmed yet as to who will caddie for the pro. However, curiosity naturally arises: would his 14-year-old son be a perfect choice for being the PGA Tour pro’s looper, or would he prefer a professional caddie for the same?

Will Charlie Woods be able to carry the bags for Tiger Woods?

Mr. T’s son has managed to turn many heads in the golf community owing to the exceptional skills and techniques he was able to display at such a young age. The young genius had clinched a victory at the Major Championship at Village Golf Course in Florida, along with a win at the Last Chance Florida Regional (Boys) with the help of his father at the bags. However, the thought of whether he would be able to provide the same kind of help to the Hall of Famer has piqued the interest of many.

Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods

A lot of speculation has been surrounding the question of who would caddie for the 82X PGA Tour champ as he gears up for his resurgence. Many are in support of his teenage son, who has already proven himself on the greens. However, will he actually be able to provide the kind of support that a professional looper such as Joe LaCava, who has decades of experience, would dispense?

Although there are rumors of how the prodigy might carry the bags for the golfer at the Masters next year, it does not change the fact that the youngster would still be an inexperienced one regardless. Moreover, with the competitiveness that the 15X major champ has showcased throughout his career, he would probably try not to “get into the romance of it” but rather aim for the win by employing a professional bagman.

With all the speculation and rumors going around, the American pro’s fans themselves decided to provide him with a solution to the problem of who would help him on the bags.

The solution to Woods’ caddie problem

CHARLIE WOODS 9

TWLegion, the fan page dedicated to the legend, took to its social media handle to set up a poll on who would be a better looper for the 1997 Masters Tournament champ. The post put forward the question, “Who will be Tiger’s caddie?” under which a total of four options were given.

The tweet mentioned the names of Joe LaCava, his son, and Rob McNamara, Woods’ TGL’s Vice President, as the obvious choices for the professional’s bagman. The final option asked the fans to comment on who, apart from these three, would be a perfect match for Woods. And many did not disappoint, as they went on to flood the comment sections with Charlie Woods’ name.

Although many dream of the father-son duo making it big on the greens, it may be a sight that may come true farther down the lane since the latter is still 14 years old as opposed to pro caddies who have been doing the same for a longer time. What do you think of the pair? Will Charlie Woods end up caddying for his father?

The 15-time major champ once again caddied for his son, this time at a regional qualifier for the Notah Begay III National Championship. Charlie won the 14-15 age division at Mission Inn in Orlando with scores of 71 and 66—and he made a clutch birdie on the final two holes to secure the one-shot victory. Have a look:

harlie Woods accomplished something his father never did: Win a high-school state championship.

Charlie, the 14-year-old son of Tiger Woods, shot 154 (78-76) over two days at Florida’s state championships held at Mission Inn Resort. The freshman’s score was good enough to finish T-26 in the individual standings, and more importantly, one of four rounds that counted for his team, the Benjamin School, with the team’s 602 total capturing the Class A title.

Given his father’s illustrious amateur career—which included three U.S. Amateur and three U.S. Junior Amateur victories—it may seem odd that Tiger never won a state championship. That’s because when Woods was in high school the California Interscholastic Federation didn’t hold state-wide championships. It should be noted however, that Woods did win his regional in 1991 and was his section’s medalist three times.

Tiger and Charlie Woods have played in the parent-child PNC Championship the past three years, although the tournament has not publicly stated the duo is entered into this year’s field. The PNC, an unofficial event affiliated with the PGA Tour, begins Dec. 16.

Woods, 47, has not competed since the 2023 Masters as he continues to rehab following April surgery on his ankle
