In April, Ryan Garcia accepted a catchweight clash at 136 pounds against Gervonta Davis, which included a contractual rehydration clause limiting the weight gain to 10 pounds for the morning weigh-in the day of the fight.

Despite suffering a seventh-round knockout loss, Garcia disclosed that he felt weak and weight-drained, emphasizing that this compromise was necessary to ensure the bout would take place and Davis wouldn’t withdraw at the last minute.

For his efforts, Garcia earned a paycheck of approximately $30 million and is now gearing up for a comeback fight at 140 pounds against Oscar Duarte (26-1-1, 21 KOs) on December 2 at the Toyota Center in Houston, airing on DAZN.

While the 25-year-old Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) acknowledges the challenges he faced against Davis, he doesn’t believe Davis is unbeatable, and he has hardly hidden his desire for a rematch, albeit under more favorable conditions.

Garcia doesn’t care about Davis’ stipulations ahead of possible rematch

In an interview with BoxingScene.com, Garcia commented on Davis and criticized him for his out-of-ring antics.

“Davis will never fight me at 140. This guy will never fight anybody at a fair thing. He just won’t. He won’t chance it. He really doesn’t have that dog in him. He doesn’t have that spirit of an old-school fighter. But I don’t care,” Garcia told BoxingScene.com

Reflecting on the Davis bout which he lost, Garcia contends that it wasn’t a genuine contest, describing himself as ‘half-a-man’.

“We didn’t really run it. That wasn’t really a fight. It was half-a-man versus a dude that, even when he dropped me, he didn’t really want to engage either, to be honest,” he added.

Garcia plans to make a mark in the super lightweight division, aiming to replicate his successful run before 2020

In a catchweight bout at 143-pounds, Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) bounced back in force with an eight round knockout of a determined Oscar Duarte (26-2-1, 21 KOs).

In the first, the taller Garcia was jabbing to keep Duarte at bay and to set up other punches. He would Duarte when the puncher would charge in with punches. Garcia also stayed on the move at all times. The second round saw Garcia continue the same trend. He got tagged with a hard left but took it very well. Duarte was also looking to get to the body, with Garcia doing his best to stay away from those shots.

Duarte started the third with a right hand over Garcia’s jab. Duarte was also tagging the body to slow Garcia down. Garcia was moving and picking his spots with hard hooks. In the fourth, Duarte was pressing hard and was making things rough for Garcia. The fifth saw a lot of trading at close range. Both fighters were having success. Duarte was connecting often to the body of Garcia, who for some reason kept turning to a weird angle.

Garcia landed two bombs early in the sixth and Duarte was able to take them. Duarte was going to the body often and hitting Garcia when he turned to his side. A lot of back and forth success for both. In the seventh, Garcia went back on the move and was throw pot shots when Duarte walked in. Garcia was moving a lot during the round.

The eight had Garcia continue to move around the ring a lot without throwing. Duarte was following around and also not moving, but then out of nowhere Garcia landed a heavy left hand that rocked the legs of Duarte. Garcia followed up with a few more shots to send Duarte down. Duarte got up on unsteady legs and the fight was waved off.

Devin Haney will vacate the remaining three lightweight titles he holds having ‘outgrown’ the division.

The undefeated and formerly undisputed star has his debut in the super-lightweight division in December against Regis Prograis.

Although the fight has been signed for some time, Haney had only lost one of his belts – the WBC – and was apparently considering appealing to hold on to the rest in case he should decide to return to 135.

Now, he has said there’s nothing left to do at lightweight an interview with ESPN.

After he battles for Prograis’ WBC 140 Title, the field opens up down at 135.

Gervonta Davis is currently the WBA Regular Champion, meaning he will either be elevated to super champ or fight for it, but more likely the former.

The IBF is now set to be contested for by Vasily Lomachenko, who is slated to face fellow former champion George Kambosos Jr in Australia in early 2024.

The WBC belt – taken from Haney separately earlier in the year – was fought for and won by Shakur Stevenson recently, who out-jabbed Edwin De Los Santos for it this month.

Lomachenko is also highly rated with the WBO, but, should he indeed fight for the IBF, the next two contenders are Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Denys Berinchyk.

Gervonta Davis reacted to the news that he will become the sole WBA lightweight titleholder with a surprising rejection.

As with all WBA ‘regular’ champions, those holding the secondary strap automatically become the complete ruler when the ‘super’ champion vacates.

However, it seems Davis isn’t one for accepting belts without winning them inside the ring.

Gervonta Davis responds to WBA title elevation

He told the WBA: “I don’t want that s***!” in response to an occurrence that has probably already happened.

A swift look at the WBA rankings still shows Devin Haney as the main champion. But that is set to change after “The Dream” confirmed his intention to relinquish all the lightweight belts in his possession.

Haney had been stripped by the WBC previously despite holding undisputed status. Shakur Stevenson won that crown in a drab clash with Edwin De Los Santos last week in Las Vegas.

That leaves the IBF, WBA, and WBO, which – once Davis is elevated, will only leave two vacant titles.

WBO and IBF lightweight titles

The IBF could announce its version over the next few days. Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. are heading towards a massive match-up in Australia for the strap.

WBN also understands that the WBO could be on board with the fight. Lomachenko is the number one contender with the body. However, they have a decision to make as Kambosos is currently unrated at 135 with the organization.

As for Davis, his next fight remains up in the air following his victory over Ryan Garcia. A subsequent spell in prison has left Davis content on the sidelines.

Al Haymon is still finalizing the details of a new TV deal, potentially with Amazon Prime. Therefore, Davis must decide whether he’s on board with possibly campaigning on some Amazon Prime paid platform moving forward.

Whether that’s with a WBA title defense at 135 or a move up to 140 remains to be seen.

Gervonta Davis’s WBA belts don’t matter to him despite Devin Haney’s announcement.

‘The Dream’ is currently slated to return to the boxing ring early next month to face Regis Prograis. That will be Haney’s first up at super lightweight as he attempts to become a two-weight division champion. While that might happen, he won’t be holding gold in the weight class below on fight night.

Earlier this week, the undisputed lightweight champion announced his decision to vacate the titles. At the time, Haney stated that he previously hoped to unify the titles with Davis’ WBA lightweight title. However, the two couldn’t reach an agreement on a deal.

Gervonta Davis

That being said, it’s clear that Gervonta Davis doesn’t care much about the WBA gold. On social media, ‘Tank’ reacted to news that he would be upgraded to WBA (Super) lightweight champion. He famously won the gold back in 2021 with a knockout win over Mario Barrios.

Since then, Davis has defended the WBA (Regular) lightweight title three times. However, while he might be upgraded to the (Super) lightweight champion soon, he doesn’t want it. In fact, he stated as much during a recent post on X. The tweet read:

After a thunderous body shot by Gervonta Davis in the seventh round of their April fight, Ryan Garcia decided to call it a day. And gradually in the wake of his loss to Davis, Garcia move up to 140 lbs. But now, after seven months, Garcia feels Davis is not better than ‘KingRy’ in any way.

Likewise, ahead of the bout against Oscar Duarte on December 2nd, Garcia named the boxers who would defeat Davis. In addition, he even accused ‘Tank’ of cheating when they met in April. Here is what Garcia said.

Ryan Garcia accuses Gervonta Davis of “cheating” in their April fight

Ryan Garcia still holds the catchweight [136 lbs] where fought Gervonta Davis and the rehydration clause imposed on him accountable for the loss against ‘Tank’. As per Garcia, the mentioned stipulations gave ‘Tank’ an advantage against ‘KingRy’ on the night of 22nd April. Likewise, Garcia, who suffered a 7th-round KO loss to

Tank’s alright. He’s not better than me. I don’t care that he beat me; I don’t care what nobody says, he’s not better than me. He caught me on the worst night I could ever have and gave me all those stipulations and all the things he could think of to get an advantage. It’s borderline cheating and sh*t,” Garcia told Boxing News.

Additionally, Garcia claimed that although Davis is a counter-puncher, he doesn’t throw a lot of punches. As a result, he was confident of beating ‘Tank’ in their potential rematch at 140 lbs. In addition, he even claimed that the likes of Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney would defeat ‘Tank’ too. “I’ll beat him next time. Somebody’s gonna beat him. Devin Haney would beat him. Myself, when I get my rematch at 140lbs, would beat him. Shakur [Stevenson] would beat him,” added Garcia who bantered with Shakur recently.

In this context, Garcia believed his new trainer Derrick James would help him realize his true potential.

Garcia is confident James would help him bring “something special” at 140 lbs

With Derrick James’ guidance, Ryan believes he has improved his technique. According to Garcia, James has also helped the former boost his footwork and basics. “He really wanted to emphasise technique. Making sure that my footwork was on point; for the first couple of months we were just all doing technique,” revealed Garcia.

‘Tank’ Davis, branded the latter’s victory a result of cheating.

As a result, Garcia hoped he would exhibit something special against Duarte on December 2nd. “You’re gonna see something special come December 2nd, and I’m gonna make an example to the 140 division,” Garcia concluded saying. With that said, what do you make of Garcia’s statements on Davis? let us know in the comments.

Gervonta Davis stands as a formidable force in the lightweight division, establishing his dominance through a string of consecutive knockout victories. As the WBA lightweight champion, his prowess is characterized by explosive power and a fierce fighting style that has allowed him to assert control over the division for a long period of time. Approaching nearly a decade in professional boxing, Davis has not only demonstrated his skill in the ring but has also amassed considerable wealth.

His financial success is attributed to various revenue streams, including lucrative PPV shares, participation in high-profile money fights, lucrative brand endorsements, and other income-generating avenues. He held titles in three different weight classes, however, there was a time when he manifested himself as the world champion, only a year after he had turned professional.

Gervonta Davis shares a throwback message with his fans

In his recent Instagram Story, Gervonta Davis shared an earlier tweet of his where he predicted his dominance

over the sport of boxing. In the tweet, Davis wrote, “I will be a world champ by 21, mark my words!!“However, there is an interesting backstory behind the tweet, since it was done after a man managed to go the distance against ‘Tank’ for the first time in his career.

It was someone named German Ivan Meraz, who lost to Davis by a decision in 2014. Before this fight, Davis managed to knock out every single opponent. After 20 days of this fight, Davis wrote the renowned tweet.  However, in the later years, Davis admitted that he took things a bit lightly at that time. He told Boxing Junkie at the final news conference of his fight against Isaac Cruz, “I ate too much after the weigh-in. I drank a lot of soda, ate a bunch of stuff. That messed me up.

Later in the same interview, Davis also stated that it didn’t bother him much, that he couldn’t knock out Ivan Meraz. He felt winning the fight is what matters in the end.

Davis knew he couldn’t knock out every one of his opponents

Many thought that the tweet was done due to the remorse that sat inside Gervonta Davis, for not being able to knock his opponent out for the first time in his professional career. But, later Davis stated that he was always at peace with the fact that he could not knock every one of his opponent

In the same presser, Davis also said, “Does it bother me that I couldn’t knock him out? Nah. I don’t think I’m going to knockout every opponent my whole career.

While acknowledging landing “perfect” punches for maximum impact, Davis confessed that he remains uncertain about the specific reasons as to why his shots inflict a lot of damage. He stated, “When I catch them with a perfect shot, they either fall or they’re really tough. And they felt it for sure.

Gervonta Davis has always been aware of the things that could happen inside the boxing ring, and it might not always go according to plan. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments section.

Currently at the peak of his career, Gervonta Davis has taken the opportunity to publicly showcase his success.

Unfortunately for ‘Tank,’ many were unapproving of the champion’s recent Instagram story post. Davis took time out on a Sunday afternoon to post a picture of a massive load of cash laid out on a coffee table.

Gervonta Davis has since taken down the post, but it was re-posted by boxing reporter Michael Benson on X.

While there was a slight variety of thoughts on the Instagram story, the general consensus reaction was negative.

Many fans were less than impressed by Davis’ attempted flex, to say the least. Some fans were congratulatory of the WBA Lightweight Champion, but most were unapproving. One fan commented:

Some people questioned Davis’ motive for posting the photo, writing

However, there were still those who backed the champion’s cash post and said:

Since earning a TKO win over Ryan Garcia in April 2023, ‘Tank’ has been relatively quiet in terms of the next move in his career. Regardless, it appears that the undefeated knockout artist is doing just fine.

Hector Luis Garcia considers his lone loss an aberration.

Ten months after his ninth-round, technical-knockout defeat to Gervonta Davis, the Dominican southpaw plans to prove that he is a much more formidable fighter than he showed that night against one of boxing’s most dangerous knockout artists. Davis rocked Garcia with a left hand late in the eighth round, which helped give Garcia the blurry vision that prevented him from answering the bell to start the ninth round January 7 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Garcia (16-1, 10 KOs, 3 NC) will fight for the first time Saturday night since Davis defeated him.

He’ll make a mandated defense of his WBA super featherweight title against Lamont Roach (23-1-1, 9 KOs). The 12-round, 130-pound championship clash between Garcia, 32, and Roach, 28, will open Showtime Pay-Per-View’s four-fight telecast from Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino’s Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas (8 p.m. ET; 5 p.m. PT; $74.99).

FanDuel sportsbook has established Garcia as almost a 4-1 favorite to beat Roach, who has won four fights in a row. Garcia expects a convincing victory over Roach to help him regain some of the momentum he had before he temporarily moved up to the lightweight division to challenge Baltimore’s Davis (29-0, 27 KOs).

“They’re gonna say, ‘There goes the defending champion, the guy that went out there and successfully defended his throne at 130 pounds,’ ” Garcia said through his translator during a virtual press conference recently. “And, more than anything, I’m gonna prove that what happened against Gervonta Davis was a fluke and that it’s never gonna happen again. No excuses.”

Roach, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is confident that he is the best opponent of Garcia’s career other than Davis. Garcia contended during the abovementioned virtual press conference that his two most recent conquests, former 130-pound champions Chris Colbert (17-1, 6 KOs) and Roger Gutierrez (27-5-1, 21 KOs), are both better fighters than Roach.

Regardless, Roach reminded Garcia of what he said.

“I like that – no excuse,” Roach said. “That’s what I like to hear. I’m not tryna hear anything. He won’t hear anything from me, either. It’s no excuse on this end. That’s the name of my gym, No Excuse. So, I like that.”

Garcia-Roach will be one of three bouts broadcast before David Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs) will defend his WBC interim super middleweight title against Demetrius Andrade (32-0, 19 KOs) in the 12-round main event.

The 25-year-old was speaking to Chris Mannix on DAZN’s Off the Cuff.

Ryan Garcia has laid out a number reasons as to why he lost to Gervonta Davis earlier this year.

Garcia returns to the ring for the first time since that defeat on December 2 live on DAZN when he takes on Oscar Duarte in a super lightweight contest.

The loss to Davis, which saw Garcia stopped in the seventh, has acted as a reset for the 25-year-old who is now based in Texas with new trainer to Derek James.

This change in surroundings has given Garcia time to reflect on his clash with Davis and when speaking on DAZN’s Off the Cuff, he revealed three reasons as to why he was unable to beat “Tank”.

“I think a ton of things went wrong for me in that fight,” Garcia began.

“The first one was the layoff, I really wanted to fight him in October after [Javier] Fortuna when I felt like my momentum was there. A lot of things killed that for me.

“Then my eagerness to fight him so bad messed me up because then I didn’t take the tune-up against Mercito [Gesta], I didn’t want to ruin the chances to fight him.

“And all those stipulations, I don’t want to go back to that, like I said, I signed it so it doesn’t matter, but those really do have an effect. I thought I could get around it, but no, fighting in that state is not fun.

“A lot of things went wrong, but again we’re now focused on just becoming the champion.”
