Afew days ago, the possibility of Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney facing each other in the ring emerged in what would be an unmissable show between two undefeated fighters in Saudi Arabia.

Davis, 29, is currently the WBA lightweight champion with a record of 29 wins – 27 of them by knockout – to reflect his growing stature in boxing.

Haney is also the WBC super lightweight world champion and while the 25-year-old has more victories with 31 in total, he is not as decisive as Davis with 15 knockouts.

However, ‘Tank’ posted a long list of demands that he would need to be granted in order to accept the bout, as he is reluctant to formalize the fight.

With a series of messages posted from his X account, Davis defended his stance of waiting to accept the challenge and revealed his long list of demands before signing, although he acknowledged the possibility that the fight could take place in Saudi Arabia.

Gervonta Davis

The pairing would be ideal as they are two young figures in US boxing, both undefeated, with great knockout power and also built with a similar frame.

What is Gervonta Davis asking for to accept the fight against Devin Haney?

Davis‘ detractors accuse him of making such demands because he’s afraid to take on someone like Haney. Even still, he is insisting on a lavish gift to convince him.

“If they want me, they have to send something to my door: two Ferraris or something. Before I even think about going over there,” Davis wrote on X.

April will mark a year since ‘Tank’ last took on a fight since he clearly knocked out Ryan Garcia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a bantamweight fight, where he thoroughly dominated the former Mexican-American champion.

Haney last fought in December 2023 when he stripped Regis Prograis of his super lightweight title.

Turki Al-Alshikh, advisor to the Royal Court of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is the man who is acting as a promoter for this potential fight, as he has also done with similar major functions in the Middle East.

Calvin Ford, the famed boxing coach for Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid, was released from prison on January 21! He was picked up by the authorities on December 29 on felony assault charges while he was leaving the popular Upton gym in Baltimore. However, three days after his release, the 58-year-old trainer sheds light on how he plans to help black youth in jail.

Police in Las Vegas issued an arrest warrant for Ford in September last year, but he was arrested in December by the cops in Baltimore. After being held at central booking, he was handed over to the Las Vegas authorities. However, since his release, the famed trainer appeared in an interview with The Rize Podcast – expressing his new goal in life.

Calvin Ford wants to help the youth “not inside of this gym – outside the gym”

During an interview with the Rize Podcast, Ford discussed his experiences in jail and how it gave him a clearer understanding of “what is going on with young black men.” During his time behind bars, Ford stated he saw “Muslims, the Jays, the civilians, the Crips, the Bloods,” and because of the laws passed on them, “we gonna start seeing a lot of bodies coming out that City Jail,” said Ford.

Gervonta Davis

He further added that “they have no sense, no guidance [of] what they should be doing.” Ford suggested that the youth should be working on how they mean to get out of prison and what they plan to do after getting out. Suggesting he went through the entire process, demonstrating how it should done. So, “Now I’m coming up, I got to extend my [hand] just not inside of this gym, outside the gym,” said Ford. While Ford was only recently released, his close aide has advocated for his innocence from the beginning!

Gervonta Davis’ co-coach & close aide defends Ford

While speaking to Fannon International Boxing Channel on January 1 this year, Kenny Ellis claimed that Ford was arrested on some false charges. “They picked him up, you know. They picked him up on some false accusations that somebody accused him of doing,” Ellis. Meanwhile, he detailed his reasoning behind believing the charges were false.

“It was assault with a deadly weapon from two people, and the question is if that happened and I was with Calvin, why am I not locked up,” Ellies said. While Ellies argued why he wasn’t arrested when the pair were together, he sent a message to all the fans. “[I] want to let the people know that he’s been falsely accused, and the truth will rise to the top,” said Ellies.

After being released from prison a few days ago, the famed trainer is aiming to help African-American inmates traverse adversities. However, whether Calvin Ford himself is completely out of trouble is yet to be seen. What do you think of Ford’s new mission to help the youth? Let us know in the comments below!

It sounds like Gervonta Davis’ next fight won’t be taking place in Saudi Arabia.

‘Tank’ has been out of the ring since a knockout win over Ryan Garcia in April. The victory was the biggest of his career, and it was clear that Davis was now one of the biggest stars in boxing. Mike Tyson even dubbed him the “face of boxing” with the win.

Gervonta Davis

With that sort of thing in mind, the WBA (Super) lightweight champion believes that he’ll need a great offer to fight outside of America. Given Saudi Arabia’s recent move into the sport, that’s a bit of a complication.

Earlier this month, Turki Alalshikh named Davis as one of the boxers he wanted to bring most to the Middle East. The advisor has helped build the country’s move into the sport and created fights such as Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou.

However, ‘Tank’ will need a lot more than just cash to fight in Saudi Arabia. In a now-deleted post on X, Davis stated that he wanted some gifts first. He wrote:

Davis also responded to a fan questioning if he was scared to fight in Saudi Arabia (via BoxingScene):

Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid having converted to Islam, has resumed his training. Although boxing fans do not know who he is fighting next, the WBA Lightweight champion of the world is busy grinding in the gym. On that note, Wahid was recently found working on his footwork. Honestly speaking, he was light, spontaneous, and effective.

Likewise, out of appreciation and curiosity, a boxing reporter took to social media and posted Wahid’s training video. However, after a fan intervened, Abdul offered a word of caution over his latest name. Here is what happened.

Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid, dazzles with his impressive footwork

Taking to X, boxing reporter Danny shared a brief clip of Gervonta Davis working on his footwork. In the clip, taking a step back, he suddenly shifts from southpaw to orthodox with a shuffle. Then, ‘Tank’ throws combinations in the air on his backfoot, staying outside the pocket. Soon, the WBA Lightweight champion is found mixing his head movement with body shots. Finally, the 29-year-old pivots to his right after throwing a jab, a cross, and a right hook. At this impressed by Davis’ workout, a curious Danny wrote, “Tank working on his footwork…I wonder who he’s fighting next“.

Gervonta Davis

However, a fan by the name of Damian objected to Danny’s caption and said, “Tank? Ain’t his name Abdul now [?]” At this, as the fan’s tweet came to Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid’s notice, the champion said, “Abdul will smack the s**t outta you. Keep it up…Damian“. Anyway, now that ‘Tank’ is training, we cannot help but wonder who he will face next.

Who is Abdul Wahid’s next potential fight?

Last year, Sean ‘Viva’ Gibbons, head of Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions, told the media that they wanted to stage a rematch between Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz. Likewise, he had even claimed that PBC would bring the fans ‘Tank’ vs. ‘Pitbull’ II in the form of a post-Christmas gift. On that note, considering Gibbons’ statements, boxing fans can expect Davis vs. Cruz II. Meanwhile, ‘Tank’ and Devin Haney have been exchanging words on the internet.

Recently, Turki Alalshikh announced that he would like to stage Davis vs. Haney in Saudi Arabia this year. So, Davis vs. Haney is another option. With that said, who do you think Abdul Wahid is preparing his footwork for? And what do you have to say about his footwork? Let us know in the comments below.

Who is responsible for getting Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando Romero off the track? While the latter has his theories to present, Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid, joined the argument by giving him a scathing reality check.

Earlier this week, Oscar De La Hoya, the feuding promoter of Ryan Garcia, told the world that his fight against ‘Rolly’ had fallen through, after the latter “priced himself out.” In developments thereon, Romero and ‘Golden Boy’ got into a heated exchange of words in their Instagram messages, which finally made their appearance on the fighter’s feed. While discussing it, he claimed that his promoter, Al Haymon, was the one calling the shots in today’s boxing industry, not Oscar De La Hoya. However, ‘Tank’ suggested another name, a name that, according to him, is the one actually calling the shots.

Not Oscar De La Hoya, Not Al Haymon, then who?

On X, the 29-year-old, Baltimore native alluded that it was the founder of his previous promotion company, Floyd Mayweather, that holds the power in the boxing world, and not Al Haymon or Oscar De La Hoya. In a reply to Rolly’s post that claimed Haymon, the PBC showrunner, as being superior to Golden Boy, Tank noted, “Lol, dumb a** n***a think it’s Al. It’s Floyd dweeb..n***a didn’t catch on yet” The response, which seems to be deleted now, was however archived by boxing insider, Michael Benson.

Gervonta Davis

Tank’s claims come in the light of many keenly observing the growing proximities between Garcia and the former welterweight champion, Floyd Mayweather. Their recent and shocking closeness had led many to believe that the fall of Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia, a fight that was very close to being made, fell through at the last moment, purely because of Floyd Mayweather. Many alluded that in fact, it was Floyd, pulling the strings from behind the curtain, who was responsible for the current drama in the super lightweight division.

That explains the fallout of the Golden Boy and Garcia’s talks with Devin Haney. However, what transpired between De La Hoya and Romero that led the latter to chastize him on social media.

Rolly takes shot at De La Hoya

It may have begun with Ryan Garcia not agreeing to Romero’s payout demands. However, it quickly went south from there. In a post both on Instagram and X, Rolly shared screengrabs of his conversation with De La Hoya. In it, the promoter seeks a reason why the fighter was badmouthing him despite being offered good money. He wrote, “Man wtf bro, talking shit about me. I have nothing but respect for you. I offered a shit load of money to you and you turn it down? Go fight pitbull for pennies bro and good luck.”

Rolly responded with his signature sass and suave: “You should thank me and trademark…Oscar de la Fishnets. You’re welcome.” While their conversation itself raised some eyebrows, his caption of the post strengthened it further. He argued that Al Haymon was better than De La Hoya, to whom, Rolly referred to as, “Drug addicted Con-man.”

Furthering the attack on DAZN, the streaming company with whom De La Hoya has a standing deal, the 28-year-old fighter chose Amazon Prime over DAZN. Amazon is the newest avenue of PPV streaming that PBC struck a deal with after Showtime Boxing’s exit from streaming boxing matches.

He signed off the post with another mockery of the promoter, citing the famous ‘fishnets’ nickname for him, which stems from an old picture of De La Hoya in fishnets. While this fiasco continues to take its course, the concern now remains as to who Ryan Garcia will fight next. Who do you think could be his potential opponent? Let us know in the comments section below.

Amid fight negotiations, Gervonta Davis has named his price to fight in Saudi Arabia.

Responding to a fan comment on social media, Davis claimed that the Saudi Arabian representatives would need to incentivize him to fight there. He jokingly claimed that he would require two Ferraris from the nation to compete on their land.

Though Davis did not tweet Saudi advisor Turki Alashikh by name, many assumed the post was a message to him.

Gervonta Davis

Davis did not state what Alashikh or the Saudi Arabian government did to upset him but seemed to imply that he has no intentions of ever traveling to the country to box.

Fan reactions ranged with some in support of Davis with others criticizing the champion for his refusal. As fans have quickly realized, Saudi Arabia has become a staple of boxing due to the nation’s recent string of hosting major events.

Some fans even concluded that Davis was scared to leave the United States.

Many fans who chose to comment appeared to believe that the recently-committed Muslim did not want to fight Devin Haney.

Other fans commented:

Gervonta Davis has revealed what it would take for discussions with Saudi Arabia to begin following an admission by its Sports Chairman.

Turki Alalshikh recently stated the region would like to bring “Tank” over to his country alongside long-time rival and former undisputed champion Devin Haney.

Speaking to DAZN, Turki said: “I want him [Gervonta Davis]. I am sending a message now from you to [Al] Haymon. Let’s do a job, brother.

“But Haney, I want to see Haney in my country [too]. I am sending messages from you now to him. I will try to do it in 2024. Of course, we want him [to fight] in my country [of Saudi Arabia].”

Gervonta Davis makes Saudi Arabia demand

Davis got wind of the intentions. And while fans of Premier Boxing Champions stated Davis would never accept the money, the WBA lightweight champion made a tongue-in-cheek request.

“They made me mad. If they want me, they must send something to my front door, like two Ferraris or something!

Gervonta Davis

“Like before I even think about going over there,” he added.

Despite the demand, which wouldn’t be a problem for Alalshikh to arrange, any move by Davis could damage the United States’ grip on boxing.

All the significant Pay Per View events worldwide, outside the heavyweight division, occur stateside. Davis sold 1.3 million PPVs against Ryan Garcia, which would prove challenging if they shifted that fight to Riyadh Season.

There’s also the gate to consider. US fans would unlikely accept traveling to Saudi Arabia and paying upmarket prices. Therefore, it seems a non-starter for a massive event.

Gate receipts

Davis vs Garcia raked in $22.8 million in gate receipts, something Saudi Arabia couldn’t offer. They could pay that kind of money upfront, which is the only way Davis would accept an offer.

A minor event, potentially a mandatory title defense, would be possible. But that depends entirely on Al Haymon’s willingness to give up control of the narrative.

Haymon is a savvy businessman. He would know that the USA would be threatened if its top fighters began moving overseas. Saudi Arabia already has the glamor heavyweight division on lockdown.

Adding the world’s Pound for Pound American stars would be a kick in the teeth for the loyal boxing fans.

March 30 is currently on the table for Haymon’s first fight under the Amazon Prime Video banner. It’s yet to be announced whether Davis will be the headliner.

The two-weight world champion recently returned to training while waiting for a judge to allow him to move outside his home state. It follows a 2023 jail sentence for his part in a hit-and-run three years earlier.

The allure of boxing hasn’t faded for Manny Pacquiao. The Filipino boxer, despite last fighting in 2021, is flirting with the idea of a comeback. While he has some illustrious names on the table, one peculiar name keeps popping up: Gervonta Davis. Their history goes back to 2019, and a recent call-out comes to mind. But is it worth the trouble for either of the two?

‘Tank’ ignited the flame of a potential match with ‘Pac-Man’ in 2019 when he demanded Al Haymon fix the dates. However, the heat soon fizzled out. The American boxer rose through the ranks while Pacquiao lost the charisma he had in his twilight years. The hypothetical fight got traction in October last year when Pacquiao expressed his eagerness to meet Davis at catchweight. And the traction of the fight hasn’t died yet, with Manny Pacquiao Promotions CEO Sean Gibbons adding fuel to it recently. But is it a terrible business that has come too late for all the parties involved?

Manny Pacquiao vs. Gervonta Davis: Too much, too late

Surely Manny Pacquiao, at 62-8-2, wants to make his splendid comeback, but he needs to stick to one idea. He recently aired rumors of his much-coveted rematch with Floyd Mayweather. The talk of him facing Conor McGregor also made waves. Then there is his Olympic dream.

The Kibawe native is still hitting the pads and is in peak physical fitness. He is far from content with retirement. Despite this, he has to pick his battles and choose one path to pursue. At 45, he can’t afford to plan a fight with ‘Tank’ and then overlook his other plans, which certainly come with a shelf life.

Gervonta Davis

In addition, there are lingering questions about Pacquiao’s boxing acumen. It has been almost three years since we saw him fight. A case can be made that he isn’t the same fighter today as he once was. If his twelve-round unanimous decision loss to Yordenis Ugás is any indication, he has already lost the speed, sharpness, and movement on his feet that established him as one of the modern-day greats. Therefore, taking a fight with one of the most devastating young boxers could be disastrous for Pacquiao and the same goes for Davis too.

A loss-loss situation for ‘Tank’

What does Gervonta Davis stand to gain by dismantling a depleted, aged Pacquiao? While the American boxer might be eager to fight the legendary boxer, a win doesn’t bolster his resume. Undoubtedly, Pacquiao is a popular choice, but there are more concerns attached.

Pacquiao, at this age, is a mismatch for a relatively younger Davis. If Davis wins the hypothetical fight, he will be bashed for putting an old Pacquiao on the canvas. The same is true even if he drops the fight. Finding a middle ground for the weight category is a hassle in itself.

Pacquiao wants the fight in the welterweight division. But he would be open to facing Davis at a catchweight of 145 lbs. Davis has been at lightweight except for one time when he ventured into light welterweight to fight Mario Barrios. Therefore, a fight at 145 might be too much of a leap for him. Also, on the negotiation table, he will hold very little power. On the other hand, there is nothing exciting in it for the traditional fans.

A disastrous farewell fight

Most likely, the hypothetical fight will be an exhibition fight, which might be a hard sell for traditional boxing fans. Exhibition fights are often close to extended sparring sessions or half-speed bouts. The fans are not keen to shell out money for not-so-thrilling encounters anymore

If Pacquiao and Davis end up exchanging blows in an exhibition match, they may just dance around and fail to entertain the fans. This is the scenario fans fear the most, especially when asked to pay for such an event. Only when the fight is for professional records, it might pique fans’ interest. On paper, it remains a fight with a predictable outcome. An image of a battered and bruised Pacquiao is not how the fans want the boxing legend’s farewell fight to be.

The heavyweight division is thriving right now with lots of fights being made and even, for the first time in 24 years, a new undisputed champion set to be crowned when Oleksandr Usyk takes on Tyson Fury on February 17.

This has lead one man to try and get involved in the action by calling out lineal and WBC champion Fury, former two-time champion Anthony Joshua and fan favourite and perennial contender Derek Chisora.

Two of those men have big fights scheduled while at this late stage of his career, Chisora has admitted he will only take the biggest challenges in his last few contests.

But that won’t stop Manuel Charr from angling to get one of them in the ring. He hasn’t fought since beating Nuri Seferi in December 2022, and had only two contests in the five years before that when he claimed the regular version of the WBA world heavyweight title by beating Aleksandr Ustinov. Following extensive litigation with the WBA, he was re-awarded that title in 2023.

Speaking to IFL TV, the 39-year-old German fighter explained his ambitions ahead of his fight with Kubrat Pulev in Bulgaria.

He then made a big if not hopeful call out.

Anything can happen in the boxing world, but it would be rather surprising give his profile if Charr got a shot at any of those men.

Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson sold events like people were getting paid to attend the fights! However, is that the case with Gervonta Davis? Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe thinks it’s the same with their now-separated starfighter Gervonta Davis.

As of today, ‘Tank’ hasn’t entered the ring for approximately nine months, having defeated Ryan Garcia in his last rendezvous to the ring. However, the fight was a spectacle to withhold, as it collected $119 million in revenue. Undoubtedly, Mike and Floyd were the face of boxing at the prime of their careers, similar to Davis today. But is that enough to justify the comparison? Here’s how Ellerbe justified it today on X!

Leonard Ellerbe lists the kind of people in attendance for Gervonta Davis’ fights

A handful of hours ago, Ray Jackson tweeted a picture of Gervonta Davis from one of his fights, highlighting Devin Haney in attendance. He wrote, “Whoever Tank Davis fights next, we can count on Bill & Devin Haney sitting ringside at the fight.” It’s worth noting that Turki Alalshikh offered to host a fight between Haney and Davis, but nothing has come out of it yet.

However, soon after the tweet from Jackson, Ellerbe retweeted the tweet, claiming, “Who [doens’t] want to be at the hot s**t.  Tank fights resemble the Tyson fights back in the day, and the Floyd fights.” He went on to claim that rappers, pop artists, actresses/actors, models, ball players, hustlers, the fly ladies & the fly guys – all high-profile celebrities attend Davis’ fights.

It’s also worth mentioning that Floyd, Tyson, and Davis have produced the biggest money-making fights. Tyson’s clash against Lennox Lewis in 2002 collected $106.9 million. Floyd’s showdown against Manny Pacquiao produced over $600 million, and of course, Tank’s $119 million against Garcia. Undeniably, there are similarities between the three fighters, but when is Davis fighting next? In case it’s Devin Haney, here’s who Floyd’s former protege thinks will win!

Gervonta Davis

Floyd’s Former Pupil Declares Shocking Winner

Yesterday, Mill City Boxing got a hold of Maurice Lee, Floyd’s former protege and starfighter in the welterweight division. Having witnessed a sparring match between Haney and Davis, Lee had the answer to who he believed would win if the fight ever happened. He began by suggesting, “It seems like ‘Tank’ doesn’t want to make the fight. I don’t know why ‘Tank’ ain’t hoped on the fight.”

Lee even revealed that he was present during the sparring match between them, claiming, “The sparring I had seen at the Mayweather gym, I would say Devin’s got the best of him.” When asked if Haney can mirror the results during a fight on the world stage, Lee agreed. “Devin is a really smart boxer skill-wise. So, I think he can outbox Tank,” said Lee.

While a potential fight between Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis hangs in the balance, Leonard Ellerbe lauds Davis’ ability to match Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather’s selling power. Do you agree with Ellerbe’s statement? Do you think Haney can beat Davis in a fight?
