Tyson Fury trumps Conor McGregor when comparing some of the combat sports stars’ biggest reported purses of their respective careers.

Heavyweight world champion Fury, who fights Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed titles in February, is one of the biggest earners in boxing. The Brit has pocketed multiple eight-figure paydays throughout his illustrious boxing career and has never been beaten in the ring, with his flawless professional record currently sitting at 34-0-1.

Former two-weight UFC champion McGregor is the highest earner to ever grace MMA’s leading promotion. His astronomical rise in 2015 saw him capture two world titles before becoming the first fighter to hold belts in two weight classes simultaneously in 2016. So let’s take a look at how five of his and Fury’s biggest paydays compare…

Conor McGregor

McGregor didn’t pocket his first seven-figure UFC payday until competing for his first world title in the summer of 2015 when he fought Chad Mendes for the interim featherweight title. The Irishman had already notched up five wins for the promotion by this point and his short-notice win against Mendes earned him a respectable £2.5million.

Just five months after winning the interim belt, McGregor became the undisputed champion by knocking out Jose Aldo in a record-breaking 13-seconds. The win catapulted him to superstar status and also marked his highest UFC payday at the time, taking home £3.5million in his first fight that sold over one million pay-per-view buys.

McGregor was scheduled to fight for the UFC lightweight world title in March 2016, but instead faced gritty veteran Nate Diaz on short-notice after Rafael Dos Anjos withdrew due to injury. The fight marked his first loss in the promotion as he was tapped out inside three rounds, but he took home £4.3million for the fight.

‘Notorious’ avenged his defeat against Diaz later that year and earned slightly more than the first fight by pocketing £4.4million. McGregor’s flawless lightweight title win against Eddie Alvarez just months after defeating Diaz saw him take home £5.3million, however it’s worth noting that McGregor likely earned considerably more than this for his fights with the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier.

Official sums of those purses are unclear, whereas the five previous paydays have all been verified as part of the ongoing class action lawsuit against the UFC. McGregor’s earnings for 2015/2016 came to light in the newly released documents as the lawsuit was granted class-action status by Federal Judge Richard F. Boulware in August.

Tiger Woods says there’s a difference between pain and injury.

And that’s why, he said on Saturday night, his 13-year-old son, Charlie, is playing at this weekend’s PNC Championship, despite a noticeable left

-leg limp, and at least one time where he tumbled over after a tee shot.

The explanation came during an interview with SiriusXM Radio’s Brian Katrek after Tiger and Charlie shot a 13-under 59 during the first round of the major champion-family member event. Here is the complete exchange:

“Charlie, it’s a learning process for you; you’re being asked questions,” Katrek began. “How much are you learning not just about golf but about what your dad goes through on a day-in, day-out basis?”

“I mean, I found a new respect for him now after getting a minor — very minor — injury,” the younger Woods said. “I wouldn’t really call it an injury — I’m just hurt. But just to see what he’s going through and how I have just like a fraction of it and how much it hurts, and it’s just cool how he’s gotten to where he is now after all he’s been through.”

Charlie Woods and Tiger Woods

“Well, there’s a big difference, BK, between pain and injury,” the elder Woods said. “And so, this is just pain.”

“Yeah,” Charlie said.

“If you’re injured, you’re not playing,” Tiger said. “This is just a little bit of pain, and it’s game time, so we just go out there and we suck it up together. As I said over here, we’re perfect yin and yang — he’s got a left foot, I got a right foot, so we got two good feet. We’re good.”

“It’s all you need,” Katrek said. “Spoken like a true football coach.”

According to NBC/Golf Channel analyst Notah Begay on Friday, a Woods family friend, Charlie rolled his left ankle while hitting balls on a range ahead of the tournament; Tiger, meanwhile, told Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis that the limp was due to “growing pains.” Whatever the case, Charlie joins his dad with leg issues — the elder Woods is battling plantar fasciitis in his right foot, an extension of injuries to his right leg suffered during a car crash early last year, and he’s also battled various ailments throughout his career.

Charlie Woods has taken his opportunities in front of the media at the PNC Championship to get some jabs in at his dad Tiger Woods.

After their round on Sunday, where the Woods duo shot a 65 to put them at -20 for the two-round event, Charlie took the opportunity to make fun of his legendary father.

“Yesterday, that’s the best he’s ever played in a while. And that kind of shocked me,” Charlie said.

Charlie Tiger

On Saturday the duo shot 59 and held a share of second with Team Singh, chasing down Team Thomas. Charlie clearly wasn’t expecting that kind of performance. Tiger followed up his son’s remark by saying “I used to be good.”

Apparently Tiger and Charlie’s rounds are full of jabs being thrown back and forth. After their round on Saturday, Charlie said the fun remarks help to keep the nerves down.

“It makes it a lot less nerve-wracking in the final stretches because we always throw shots at each other,” the younger Woods said. “And it’s just very fun.”

Tiger agreed with his son’s sentiment.

“It’s literally nonstop. It starts pre-round. Before we even got here, the texts were flying. And then warmup, the jabs were coming out. And then throughout the round, there were jabs, there were a couple notes left here and there, a couple things said that we love.”

Tiger Woods has made his long awaited return to professional golf this week. He is playing in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, a tournament he hosts.

This comes less than eight months after having successful ankle surgery stemming from the car accident back in 2021. Not only has Woods mostly looked like himself walking the course, a big point of emphasis, but he also looks strong as an ox.

The Twitter account Big Boy Pants Golf took notice and decided to take a shot at the 15-time major winner.

“Tiger making his hat look like sometime you’d put two scoops of ice cream into and cover with sprinkles. Things starting to feel very Lance Armstrong-y,” they tweeted.

This account has voiced its opinion on Woods taking steroids before. That’s not what’s worth noting here.

On the top of the post, you can see that Phil Mickelson liked the post.

Phil-Tiger

There is no love lost between Mickelson and Woods. What started out as a friendly rivalry, in recent years has grown contentious. That was only amplified when Mickelson left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf. He has since become arguably the most vocal supporter of LIV, despite openly acknowledging the human rights abuses and atrocities committed by the source income of the rival league.

Nevertheless, Woods, no doubt, looks fit. He has even talked about how much time he has spent in the gym working out, recovering from injuries and surgeries.

But let’s not forget, Woods has been jacked for years. The early Tiger transformed his body well more than a decade ago. So this is nothing new.

It was a delight for many fans as they came across Terence Crawford. However, he wasn’t alone. To everyone’s sheer joy, the boxing great was joined by NBA star Russell Westbrook. The point guard with the Los Angeles Clippers could be seen chatting with Crawford. Then he spoke a few words to the latter’s kids before they all shook hands and went their separate ways. The Welterweight champion recently made news as the IBF decided to strip him off their belt.

Consequently, his status changed from that of an undisputed champion to that of a unified champion. However, to most fans, the decision barely stands a chance of denting his legacy. What he has accomplished stays as it is. The Omaha, Nebraska-born southpaw, created history this year when he defeated archrival Errol Spence Jr. on July 29. Ever since there have been multiple rounds of talks on his future course of action.

Two famous sports personalities and joyous fans

From the comments, it was clear that most fans and followers were pleasantly surprised by the gathering of two very famous star athletes. Of course, the usual fun-poking, skeptical crowd milled around.

Terence Crawford

Russell Westbrook has finally met someone whom he can’t even imagine intimidating; the following user shared: “Finally, someone Russ can’t bully.” For this user, from the footage, it never seemed as though Crawford was shorter than Westbrook: “Bud, don’t look that much shorter than Russ right here.” One user said that they are a die-hard fan of Errol Spence Jr.: “Ima Spence fan, okay bud.

The next few appeared to be unwavering fans of the Welterweight champion. For instance, this fan said that in the footage, the only athlete who stood out as an A-lister was Terence Crawford: “@tbudcrawford is the real A1 athlete here.” The next one called the Nebraska native, pound-for-pound, the best boxer in the world: “Bud P4P, best boxer in the world.” According to this fan, genuine elite athletes are able to recognize and acknowledge others of their kind: “Real Recognize Real.

Finally, out of the blue, there was a comment from this user who probably thought about what would happen if Westbrook and Crawford squared up against each other. They envisioned that after 3 months of rigorous boxing training, the NBA point guard would have the upper hand in the ring! “I got Russ with 3 months of boxing training.

Soon after the Spence Jr. fight, Crawford made it clear that he would be happy to take on either Jermell Charlo or Canelo Alvarez.

Exciting times ahead for Terence Crawford

But as it happened to everyone’s shock, Jermell Charlo and Alvarez—got into the ring. The ‘Iron Man’ received appreciation for the brave move, climbing two divisions up to face one of the ‘faces of boxing.’ But it was a step fraught with risk. Finally, when they fought, the Mexican champion steamrolled over the Texas native. Thereafter, ‘Bud,’ in a scathing criticism, shared that he wouldn’t fight the light middleweight champion.

Thus, the super middleweight champion remains a viable option. However, many experts voiced their concern that going over three weight classes is an altogether different ballgame. Otherwise, within the division, Crawford could always go against upcoming star Jaron Ennis, the new IBF welterweight champion. Finally, he might also have to consider a rematch with Spence Jr. The New York-born southpaw decided to activate the rematch clause, which means that Crawford would have to give Spence Jr. his rematch very soon.

Do you think Terence Crawford goes after Canelo Alvarez, leap-frogging three weight divisions? Please share your views with us in the comments below.

You almost never see Terence Crawford smiling once he’s inside the ring. Actually, you rarely see him smiling outside of it either.

For the 35-year-old, he comes off as unforgiving and mean. His actions once the bell rings mirror that. Earlier this year, for the 11th consecutive time, a Crawford opponent was unable to reach the final bell. While it’s commonplace, few expected him to dismantle Errol Spence Jr. a few short months ago.

It was built up as a 50/50 matchup and a tit-for-tat battle. However, first-round aside, Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) issued a one-sided beatdown to the former unified champion.

With all four welterweight titles now draped over his shoulders, Crawford’s already puffed-out chest protrudes just a bit more nowadays, his voice is a bit deeper, and the menacing glare he gives his opponents and media members feels more terrifying. But while Crawford, by and large, is viewed as the best fighter in the world and a flat-out killer in the ring, Angel Garcia isn’t buying it.

Terence Bud Crawford

The current father of the former two-division champion, Danny Garcia, knows Crawford like the back of his hand. In addition to watching his career play out, Angel observed Crawford in the amateurs. In the unpaid ranks, both Crawford and Angel’s son split a pair of meetings. Up until recently, the two campaigned in the same division.

At one point, it seemed likely that the pair would rekindle their rivalry in the pros, but with Crawford stating time and time again that he’s only interested in fighting Canelo Alvarez, Angel has moved on.

As for media pundits and fans who continue to praise Crawford with superlatives, Angel believes it’s well deserved. But, for those who are convinced that Crawford can simply waltz through anyone without breaking a sweat, Angel rolls his eyes incredulously as he vehemently disagrees.

“He ain’t no killer,” said Angel Garcia to AB Boxing News. “He can be beaten too.”

Gervonta Davis beat Ryan Garcia conclusively earlier this year, but the latter says an injury played a big part.

‘Tank’ Davis dropped and stopped Garcia in April at a catchweight of 136lbs. In the aftermath, Garcia says he was weight drained and also hinted at an injury.

In an interview with The Last Stand, he confirmed that theory, saying that ‘a separated rib’ from training camp affected his preparation.

Gervonta-Davis

Davis caught wind of the comments and took to social media to say it was ‘over’ for his rival.

Garcia is angling for a rematch, but is one division up now, his maiden fight being a catchweight bout with Oscar Duarte.

In April, Ryan Garcia accepted a catchweight clash at 136 pounds against Gervonta Davis, which included a contractual rehydration clause limiting the weight gain to 10 pounds for the morning weigh-in the day of the fight.

Despite suffering a seventh-round knockout loss, Garcia disclosed that he felt weak and weight-drained, emphasizing that this compromise was necessary to ensure the bout would take place and Davis wouldn’t withdraw at the last minute.

For his efforts, Garcia earned a paycheck of approximately $30 million and is now gearing up for a comeback fight at 140 pounds against Oscar Duarte (26-1-1, 21 KOs) on December 2 at the Toyota Center in Houston, airing on DAZN.

While the 25-year-old Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) acknowledges the challenges he faced against Davis, he doesn’t believe Davis is unbeatable, and he has hardly hidden his desire for a rematch, albeit under more favorable conditions.

Garcia doesn’t care about Davis’ stipulations ahead of possible rematch

In an interview with BoxingScene.com, Garcia commented on Davis and criticized him for his out-of-ring antics.

“Davis will never fight me at 140. This guy will never fight anybody at a fair thing. He just won’t. He won’t chance it. He really doesn’t have that dog in him. He doesn’t have that spirit of an old-school fighter. But I don’t care,” Garcia told BoxingScene.com

Reflecting on the Davis bout which he lost, Garcia contends that it wasn’t a genuine contest, describing himself as ‘half-a-man’.

“We didn’t really run it. That wasn’t really a fight. It was half-a-man versus a dude that, even when he dropped me, he didn’t really want to engage either, to be honest,” he added.

Garcia plans to make a mark in the super lightweight division, aiming to replicate his successful run before 2020

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are often adored for their visible support towards each other, in career and otherwise. While each presents a unique path to extend a cheer, Simone is often seen flying miles to make her presence in the stands. Bengals, Bears, and Vikings, the Packers safety has found himself a staunch support on the field this NFL season.

Though Simone has constantly announced her appearance, it hasn’t always been a smooth sail for the gymnast. With the weather that Wisconsin has to offer, Biles has battled the odds to cherish her man from the stands. The Green Bay Packers fandom, aware of the conditions, took a playful dig at the gymnast as they presented a ‘Calm Down’ parody to welcome Taylor Swift to the stands.

Simone Biles braces up to relive unkind weather

The Green Bay Packers stars are all set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday evening. However, more to the persisting excitement comes from the icons off the field for the fans. With Taylor Swift’s and Biles‘ better halves partaking in the match, the spectators are eager for a glimpse. The Crispy Brothers, part of the Packers fandom, put out a spoof song inviting Taylor to stands rather than the suites. And in saying so, included Simone’s case in the clip

Simone Biles

The gist started by stating, “Come freeze your b*ns off with some Packers fanatics,” referencing Lambeau Field. “Yeah, I know I am kinda cheatin’ cuz Biles has a real good reason, and we welcomed her this season…” the lyrics further continued. Simone Biles, who has flown to many of Owens’ games, has previously expressed her repulsion towards Wisconsin’s weather.

The gymnast’s unwavering support

On October 29th, Simone Biles appeared as a cheerleader for her husband, Jonathan Owens in his nail biting, epochal match against the Vikings. The gymnast wore a white sweatshirt covered with the word “OWENS” in bold yellow and green text alongside an image of the NFL star. However, the outfit did not prove to be the right support for Biles who suffered the wrath of the weather.

After being stranded, shivering, the Olympian took to Threads to weave a confession. “I’m NOT built for cold weather,” she wrote after surviving the -5 degrees Celsius. The reason stems from the 26-year-old’s warm comfort in her native: Houston, Texas. While her native faces a yearly average of 29 degrees Celsius, it comes down to 8 in Wisconsin. Nonetheless, Biles has ensured to announce her presence every time needed; elevating the status of the duo away from the mats.

Simone Biles smashes records so often that we’re not sure when she gets a break from the mat. So, it should come as no surprise that the 26-year-old gold medal winner is celebrating the holiday season by wearing a collection of festive-themed activewear from her partnership with Athleta (you know, just in case she wants to do any aerials around the Christmas tree).

The Olympian showed off the ensembles in a series of photos on her Instagram page. “Holiday ‘fits coming in strong – and comfy,” Biles wrote in her caption, adding a smiley face emoji with hearts. “There’s no time like the present, so I’m reaching for my favorite Athleta looks for all my festive routines with my favorite people. #PowerofShe #Athletapartner @athleta.”

In the carousel of pics, Biles wears various pieces—including sports bras, sweatpants and tights—in festive colors ranging from a Christmas tree green to a sparkly silver.

Simone Biles

The gymnast’s Athleta pieces have clearly been a hit, because everything is currently sold out on the site except for the Athleta Girl x Simone Biles Long Distance Bra ($39; $20) which is still available in the XL/14 and XXL/16 sizes. (We’re keeping our fingers crossed that they restock before the end of the year.)

The highly-decorated gymnast announced her “Because I Can” collection with Athleta back in September. The name was inspired by a quote from Biles in 2021, when a reporter asked her why she had performed such high-difficulty moves at the U.S. Classic that year. In a succinct, cheeky response, Biles said, “Because I can.”

This collection, which is targeted toward young girls, is the latest from Biles’s partnership with Athleta (which began back in 2021). When she first teamed up with the activewear brand, the World Championship winner said, “Using my voice has been very empowering for me and I’m grateful to embark on this new journey with Athleta to inspire young girls and women to do the same.”
