If you’re anything like us, New Year’s Eve is not only a fun excuse to dress up and celebrate with all of your friends, but it’s a chance to admire the fashion sense of others. Social media is a veritable runway of epic festive fashion in the days following the evening of celebration, and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Among those who put their good fashion sense on display is Olympic gymnast Simone Biles. As it turns out, she’s much more than just an incredible force to be reckoned with in the gym—she’s an impressively stylish dresser, too.

simone biles

The athlete rang in the New Year in appropriate fashion: dressed to the nines in her best floor-length gown. She wore a deep green strapless silk dress, fitted through the bodice with a full skirt. The record-breaking athlete paired the glamorous number with delicate diamond jewelry and a full head of beautiful curls.

“ringing in the new year 🤍🥂,” she captioned the carousel she posted from her classy weekend evening. Biles spent her New Year’s weekend celebrating the wedding of one of her friends. The event called for a stunning black tie outfit, and she certainly delivered.

In addition to the great dress, we have no doubt that the athlete’s celebrations were filled with aspirational plans for the year to come, including, of course, the 2024 Olympics in Paris. We fully expect the athlete to continue her mindful training regimen and compete for a spot on the squad.

Simone Biles might not mind her husband, Jonathan Owens’ repeatedly owning up to things that fall pretty much unbelievable to the internet world. Not just in the latest Pivot Podcast but previously Jonathan Owens admitted that he couldn’t get hold of the shadow Simone Biles cast over the sports arena for years. “I didn’t know who she was,” was his zeitgeist to the Texas Monthly in 2021. However, that couldn’t dim the relationship goals between the gymnastic superpower and NFL brute force. Rather, Simone Biles came up openly when there was any gloom over the Green Bay Packers’ lanky guy.

Solidifying the wife’s expectation, on New Year’s Day, the husband, Jonathan Owens, attained something that might inflict merriment on Simone Biles. In the run, he already claimed accolades from a legendary NFL homebody.

Jonathan Owens’ transmogrified avatar in return from injury

On Sunday, January 1, Jonathan Owens chose the match against the Minnesota Vikings to glissade over Simone Biles’ expectation from the guy. In that evening, Owen railed four tackles on the opponent. Out of those three fiery attempts, three came in solo touch. Eventually, the Vikings appeared meek in front of the phantasmagoria the 28-year-old created in the court and lost by a scoreline of 33-10. The solo attempts were too heroic to be ignored by NFL grangousier, Jaleel Johnson. The defensive tackle later took to IG story to show his wonder in sentence, “IM JUST SAYING WE ALL SEE @jowens blowing up this year”. The satisfied safety guy of GBP could all do was share the story on his IG handle. Despite facing repeated complaints of decadence,

Jonathan Owens couldn’t let go of the belief of Simone Biles that she gathered on him when Owens remained sidelined due to his knee injury in the season. For the last five straight weeks this season, the fifth-year safety appeared in defensive attempts in the final squad. Rather, he shaded 54 solo tackles, adding to the 78 tackles in 16 matches for the GBP this season. That might help Simone Biles to forget his absence by her side on New Year’s Day.

The support from Simone Biles

Simone Biles acknowledged that the distance between the couple was huge and in the 9-month marriage stint, the couple remained distant due to their sports commitments. But that couldn’t make the athlete complain about things. Rather, she often equaled herself with Owens’ situation, as both saw their upbringing in quite similar fashion. So when on January 1, Jonathan Owens was all about huddling against the Yellow jersey-giants, Simone Biles was all in her friend’s marriage party in NY.

Moreover, the perspicuity seen on her face on the day proved the ostentatious satisfaction the wife received from her hubby’s performance on the field. That quite proved the distinctive appearance of both sports stars who often exchange their personas for exercise.

December is all about family traditions, and today was the start of relatively new one that has quickly become one of the golf world’s favorites.

Tiger and Charlie Woods played their opening round of the PNC Championship today at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. This is the fourth consecutive year that Team Woods has teed it up in this 36-hole, parent-child scramble.

While Woods’ career once was defined by his performances in March, April, June and July, December has become the month of Tiger. The PNC comes a couple weeks after his Hero World Challenge, which Woods played a couple weeks ago. The Hero was his first tournament since having fusion surgery on an ankle joint after this year’s Masters.

Woods finished 18th in the Hero’s 20-man field, displaying some promising signs while also showing the expected rust and fatigue after his long layoff. This week’s PNC offers another opportunity for him to prepare for his return to the TOUR in 2024 – he believes he can play once a month next year – and for Charlie’s continued progress to be on full display.

Charlie is now 14 and has grown 4 inches in the past year, according to his father. That meant he had to move back a set of tees for this year’s PNC Championship, but that didn’t have much impact on Team Woods because Charlie also displayed copious clubhead speed on Saturday. He drove it over one green and hit several tee shots over 300 yards. Notah Begay, Tiger’s college teammate and close friend, said that Charlie’s clubhead speed sits somewhere between 115-120 mph. Begay also noted that Charlie can “cruise” at a ball speed in the mid-170s with his driver.

Charlie Woods

“For his age, (that’s) quite a lot of ball speed,” Begay said. Tiger got both his kids involved Saturday, as daughter Sam served as his caddie for the first time.

“For me to have both my kids inside the ropes like this and participating and playing and being part of the game of golf like this, it couldn’t have been more special for me,” Tiger said, “and I know that we do this a lot at home, needle each other and have a great time. But it was more special to do it in a tournament like this.”

For Team Woods, it was the shorter clubs that kept them from going lower Saturday. Their 8-under 64 leaves them T11 in the 20-team field after the first round. They’re seven shots behind the leaders, Matt Kuchar and his son, Cameron, and four back of the four teams that are tied for second: the Langers, Singhs, Goosens and Duvals. Those latter three were some of Tiger’s toughest competition during his prime years.

The PNC’s host venue, the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, has wide fairways and large greens. Tiger and Charlie were in the fairway with wedge in hand throughout the day but didn’t hit enough approach shots close to the hole, nor did they hole many putts. There were too many two-putt pars for this low-scoring format.

“I drove the ball really good today,” Charlie said. “Didn’t miss a fairway, and still managed to shoot 8-under. We just suck at putting.”

Added Tiger, “That sums it up right there.”

A pair of 10-footers were the longest putts they made all day, surprising considering they get two cracks at each attempt. Team Woods had two two-putt birdies on par-5s on the front nine and another came from just off the green on the par-4 13th after Charlie’s tee shot landed on the green before rolling to the back fringe. The rest were on putts inside 5 feet after getting near the green on short par-4s and the par-5 18th.

Charlie’s clubhead speed was the highlight of the day. On the front nine, he twice hit the green on par-5s with iron shots that sailed more than 200 yards. Then he drove it into a greenside bunker on the par-4 seventh and displayed a nifty short game with a high, spinning sand shot that carried some 20 yards before stopping near the hole. They closed the front nine with Tiger’s 10-foot birdie putt.

Their first birdie on the back nine came after Charlie drove it within 40 yards of the 11th green and wedged to 5 feet. He hit the shot of the day two holes later, carrying his drive more than 300 yards and onto the green. Charlie birdied the par-3 17th after hitting his tee shot to 10 feet, and they closed with one more birdie after Tiger hit his approach just over the final green and chipped it close to the hole.

“I like the way everything looks for next season,” Notah Begay said of Tiger. “He talked about playing once a month. I think that would be a nice, aggressive, manageable schedule. He can get the recovery routine down, he’ll be just fine.”

Tiger and Charlie will undoubtedly appear in their Sunday red-and-black for the final round, and they’ll need one of their father’s famous charges if they want to win the PNC for the first time.

12:40 p.m.

We’re off the par train! That’s not a good ride to be on in the scramble format.

Another true birdie for Charlie, who hits his tee shot on the par-3 17th to 10 feet and then drains the putt.

It matches the longest putt they’ve made all day. Three of their seven birdies have come on two-putts. They’ve also made two 10-footers and had a couple birdie putts inside 5 feet after Charlie drove close to the green. It’s been a lot of two-putts today, as Team Woods has had no trouble finding the fairway and the putting surface. They just haven’t rolled them in.

12:27 p.m.

Three straight for the pars Woods, who are nine off the lead with two holes remaining in their second round. They’re going to be facing a sizable deficit in the second round.

The latest par exemplifies their day. They were in the fairway with wedge in hand but unable to capitalize. Notah Begay, who’s observed Charlie’s game closely, again makes the astute observation that Charlie is missing his wedges short and right because his swing is too steep and the ball rides up the face of the club. Woods doesn’t do much better from 87 yards, hitting his shot 15 feet past the hole. They two-putt for another par.

The highlight of the hole was the presence of Justin Thomas’ dog Franklin, who gives Tiger several kisses as he walks off the green.

11:57 a.m.

The Charlie recoil is on display again after he rips another drive into the fairway. He obviously loves the freedom of this scramble format, and fans love his swagger.

The team makes an unacceptable mistake after Tiger’s second shot sets them up just short of the par-5 green. Their ball lay just a couple feet off the ground, and both Tiger and Charlie chose to putt it but neither could get it closer than 15 feet from the hole. They both missed and made par to remain 6 under par, nine back of the Kuchars.

Charlie has produced a couple highlights today, including his drive that landed on the green on the previous hole, but it has been a pretty quiet performance from them. They just haven’t made enough putts to contend today.

11:40 a.m.

After another par at 12, Charlie produces another amazing shot on a short, dogleg par-4. He takes his drive over the trees and carries it onto the green. The ball lands about 15 feet from the hole before landing in the back fringe. The shot inspired a fan to yell, “Watch out, he’s coming!” Charlie’s reply?

“I’m already here.” Bold!

Another PNC Championship is in the books, the fourth year that Tiger Woods and his son Charlie played together — and his daughter Sam caddied!

Charlie Woods

Although the Woods family didn’t win the 2023 edition of the tournament we still got to see the joy of them playing together once again, along with some priceless moments: Tiger looking proud after a Charlie chip-in, a similar reaction to Sam caddying. There was Tiger throwing a chicken tender at Charlie and his son getting him back by roasting Tiger over putting.

Before we move on, let’s look back at the photos from Sunday of the father, son and daughter together:

Anthony Joshua should relish the criticism he gets and use it to ‘fuel him’ moving forwards.

That’s according to talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan, who has praised AJ for his victory over Otto Wallin last month.

Joshua dominated and stopped his rival contender in impressive fashion to set up a fight with Deontay Wilder in March.

However, Wilder failed to fulfil his side of the bargain as he was beaten by Joseph Parker on the same show in Saudi Arabia.

Now AJ’s future is unclear, but he certainly looks set to receive more positive coverage in 2024 than he did in 2023 for his lacklustre performances on the comeback trail following back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

Jordan began on the talkSPORT talkBOXING podcast: “The irony of Anthony’s position about the unfair criticism he gets is [that it’s] probably an energy he can fuel himself with.

“But he shouldn’t want the criticism to stop because I think it fuels him.”

At this point his co-host Spencer Oliver added: “I’m with you and I said that to Joshua in one of the interviews I did with him.

anthony joshua

“I know he was very angry with talkSPORT and the criticism he was getting from talkSPORT.

“I said, ‘Listen Josh, you should be feeding off of that, that’s what good fighters do. Go and prove them wrong, that’s where your fuel should be coming from.’

“I think to a certain extent he’s done that.

“If people are talking about you, it’s a good thing. Because that means you’re doing something right, that is for sure.

“I said, ‘Just turn that negative into a positive, that’s all you’ve got to do, believe in yourself. Don’t worry about what people say because that doesn’t make any difference when the first bell rings, you’ve just gotta go out there and deliver.'”

Swedish heavyweight contender Otto Wallin said Anthony Joshua was ‘past his peak’ before their fight, but was taught a quick lesson when the Brit turned up as good as he has looked in some time.

Joshua dominated from the opening bell, picking his shots with tremendous precision and measured aggression, forcing Wallin to retire on his stool with blood around his nose following the fifth-round. It was ‘AJ’s a first back-to-back knockout win since 2017.

anthony joshua

In an interview with Boxing News, Wallin cleared up news of his injury and showed support for his trainer, Joey Gamache, who made the decision to pull him out of the contest.

Joshua’s win seems to have lined him up for a fight with Filip Hrgovic and a possible IBF Vacant Title as he seeks to become just the fifth three-time heavyweight champion of all-time.

Wallin, at 33 and with losses to just Joshua and Tyson Fury, will take stock and come back this year.

Otto Wallin’s knockout by Anthony Joshua after just five rounds last December, the Swedish boxer says the British-Nigerian is a tougher opponent than WBC champion Tyson Fury.

Before the ‘Day of Reckoning’ in Saudi Arabia, some boxing fans had backed Wallin to spring an upset and derail a planned fight between Joshua and Deontay Wilder.

However, after Wilder was easily outpointed by Joseph Parker on the undercard, Joshua took control in the main event. The former two-time heavyweight champion dominated Wallin from the first bell and forced the stoppage after just five rounds of boxing in Riyadh.

This marked Wallin’s second career defeat, with the first coming as a decision loss to Fury, and the Swede contender has refused to make any excuses, instead praising Joshua for a great performance.

“I know that he is one of the best fighters out there,” Wallin told Boxing News.

Anthony Joshua

“I really have no excuses, he was just better. He did really well, used his reach well, and he hit me with some really good shots. He was just better. I think he had a good game plan. He felt like a very good fighter, and obviously, it was a much tougher fight than what I had with Tyson Fury. Maybe he’s found his home with Ben Davison.”

Wallin’s nose was dripping blood after round five, and his long-timte coach, Joey Gamache, made the bold decision to pull his fighter out early.

The 33-year-old didn’t dispute the call at the time, and he still feels his trainer did the right thing.

“I didn’t disagree (with the stoppage), Joey told me, ‘I’m going to stop it.’ And I didn’t say anything. I trust Joey, he is always looking out for me. I feel very happy that I have a trainer who puts my health first. There’s a life after boxing, so I’m really appreciative that he is looking out for me,” he said.

Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, says the British-Nigerian’s next fight is still set for March in Saudi Arabia.

Several names are being discussed for the British star’s next fight in Saudi. Some of the options include unbeaten contender Filip Hrgovic, MMA veteran Francis Ngannou, and Chinese giant Zhilei Zhang.

“Right now, we have three fights that were in discussions for they’re all big,” Hearn told IFL TV. “And that doesn’t involve Deontay Wilder. Before March our aim, and we’ve discussed this, is to fight the winner of Fury versus Usyk. That is all we want to do.

“Obviously there’s a Hrgovic fight out there for the world heavyweight title; there’s a Francis Ngannou fight out there which would be absolutely colossal. There’s other heavyweights as well, the Zhang fight possibly as well with Queensbury.”

Hrgovic is viewed by many as the frontrunner to face Joshua, while Oleksandr Usyk and WBC champion Tyson Fury are scheduled to collide in an undisputed fight February 17 in Saudi Arabia.

The IBF title is expected to become vacant after the first Fury-Usyk encounter and Hrgovic is the IBF’s mandatory challenger. A fight between him and Joshua for the vacant IBF belt has emerged.

Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney have been engaged in a verbal sparring match that shows no signs of cooling down.

A recent post on X from Davis aimed at Haney claimed imitation, sparking a swift and cutting response from the latter.

Is a fight happening between Davis and Haney?

Gervonta Davis threw the first punch with a tweet asserting, “All them lil ni**as wanna be like me…I’m their biggest test…so they don’t want to admit but you can peep.”

This not only fueled discussions within the boxing community but also hinted at a perceived reluctance from Haney to face Davis in the ring.

Haney’s response was signature, cutting, and hinted at more than just a war of words.

“All this b*tch do is talk. Ion ever wanna b a pu**y like u,” retorted Haney, turning the verbal exchange into a potential

prelude for an actual fight.

The tension surrounding a potential match between the two champions escalated, adding another chapter to the narrative of Davis seemingly denying a $20 million fight with Haney.

Despite Haney expressing his eagerness for a showdown, the bout has yet to materialize, leaving fans speculating about the underlying reasons.

In the midst of this, Haney is reportedly in talks to face Ryan Garcia, diverting attention but not diluting the anticipation.

A fan’s tweet comparing the two fighters’ styles led to Davis accusing Haney of copying his fashion.

The fan humorously suggested, “I feel like this year @Realdevinhaney you gotta start paying @Gervontaa for his styling services it’s getting outta hand now.”

Davis fired back, emphasizing, “He been doing this for years.. he’s a d**k eater,” underscoring that the extend of their rivalry.

WBA’s positive update for Davis

In a separate development, Gervonta Davis received positive news from the WBA after Devin Haney’s decision to vacate his undisputed lightweight titles.

Despite Davis initially expressing reluctance, the WBA confirmed him as the sole WBA lightweight world champion, resolving the Regular/Super belt situation in the division.

Whether Davis remains in the lightweight division or explores a move to super-lightweight remains uncertain, adding another layer of intrigue to the evolving narrative of these two boxing titans.

Undoubtedly, the credit was his to take. After all, he became a world champion for the third time in a six-year-old career. However, Shakur Stevenson couldn’t escape the scathing criticism that turned up over his performance despite winning unanimously against Edwin De Los Santos.

Given that many project him as an upcoming star of boxing, he had to endure a whole lot of questions. So while he upscales himself for bigger paydays in the new year, many believe that he might still not be ready to take on challenges of such stature. Among them, Stevenson’s last opponent, Edwin De Los Santos, believes too much is being made of his skills. In front of an A-lister, he might have no hope.

Shakur Stevenson will buckle against a topliner, says Edwin De Los Santos

So speaking to ‘Millcity Boxing’, De Los Santos said that it was listless when asked for his opinion on the bout. He said, “You know it was a very, very boring fight. You know the guy came to survive.” Then he further added, “It wasn’t what we expected of him. Everybody got him; ‘so’-called’ he’s a superstar.” The host then asked, “How do you think he does with ‘Tank’?

Edwin De Los Santos replied, “He won’t stand a chance with the guys [that] are the elites; like the real elites, he won’t stand a chance.” The Dominican boxer’s tirade against a boxer who inflicted his second career loss is understandable.

Even during the in-ring post-fight interview, he slammed the American boxer. He said, “You know what? I came to fight; he came for a track meet, and I wouldn’t say that I’m on his level; I say I’m above his level because I came to fight tonight. I came to put on a fight, and Shakur Stevenson decided not to fight…

If truth be told, in each round of their match, neither Stevenson nor De Los Santos landed punches that counted more than a single digit. No wonder, for a twelve-round fight, the bout earned an unpleasant distinction. It was a match with the lowest number of thrown strikes, establishing a new CompuBox record. But statistics aside, perhaps reputationally, ‘Sugar’ received the lion’s share of criticism.

Rumination needed, or ‘Sugar’ remains as good as ever?

So when he criticized Stevenson, did De Los Santos mean that he wasn’t aggressive enough to swarm up and fight? Or does it have anything to do with his boxing prowess per se? Though appreciated for his jabs, in-ring movement, and innate ability to avoid punches, many slam Shakur Stevenson for a safety-first approach. Thus, his fighting style often gets labeled as spiritless and dull.

Opportunities are galore for Stevenson to become the next big name in boxing. However, some feel that he has to crank up his game. He fought eight bouts during the last three years. But the wins split equally between early stoppages and decisions. Notwithstanding the risks involved, a little self-introspection might help to determine if he should take a more aggressive approach in the ring.

What’s your take on De Los Santos’s statement? Do you agree with him that Shakur Stevenson is barely a match against top-end fighters?

Phil Mickelson, LIV Golf devotee, has expressed his opinion on the PGA Tour missing its deadline of December 31 to sign a framework deal with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

When the PGA Tour revealed in June that they would be ending their rivalry with LIV Golf in favour of a partnership with PIF and the DP World Tour, the sports world was taken aback. Following the announcement, all parties gave themselves until December 31 to finalise a deal—a timetable that will undoubtedly be missed.

Growing dissatisfaction within the sport has resulted from the slow-moving discussions between the soon-to-be partners, particularly among the fan bases of LIV and the PGA Tour and the players.

Entrepreneur Joe Pompliano brought up this issue on social media, saying that golf fans are “exhausted” by the division in the professional game. One individual who has been at the focus of the story is Mickelson; in reaction, the six-time major winner told supporters it would be worthwhile to wait for an accord.

Phil Mickelson

“Joe, I understand what you are saying,” he tweeted. “However, when it is all said and done, the average fan will see all the best players compete against each other way more often than before AND throughout the world. Sponsors will know what it is they are buying and everyone will end up ahead. Let’s all be patient.”

Following the Telegraph’s report that the deadline was going to be extended until the New Year, Mickelson made his comments and there is still hope of getting something settled soon. The Tour and PIF have reportedly reconsidered their goal and are now hoping to finalise the deal by March, ahead of the Masters Tournament in April of 2024.

SSG will invest £2.4 billion ($3 billion) in PGA Tour Enterprises as a result of the agreement. Regarding the Tour’s potential merger with LIV Golf, there was some good news, as the circuit also disclosed that it was still in talks with the Saudi fund.

Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the head of PIF, stated that the fund intended to invest “billions of dollars” in golf as part of the deal once the framework was revealed. In order to enter the professional golf scene, PIF spent an estimated £1.6 billion ($2 billion) last summer to start LIV Golf.
