Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has been making headlines this entire year. His performance in the 2023 season has been good, with one win at the junior high school state championship. His game at the PNC Championship also garnered a lot of attention. But there is another reason with which the young golfer has shaken the golf world: his deal with Greyson Clothier.

As per the reports, the 14-year-old has ditched his father’s longest-running sponsor, Nike, and has collaborated on a massive deal with Greyson Clothiers. Greyson is a famous golf clothing and apparel brand. The deal could be worth millions of dollars and would make him one of the highest-paid junior athletes in the world. But what does this deal mean for Woods Jr. and his father?

1. Charlie Woods is taking a different path.

Charlie Woods has shown that he has inherited his father’s talent and passion for golf, as well as his competitive spirit and charisma. But when it comes to standing out, he also knows how to do that. The golf prodigy opted to sign with a different apparel brand than Nike, displaying that the path he has chosen is different from his father’s. Woods Jr. has been welcomed into the Greyson family by Larry Fitzgerald, and the company also extended their warm welcome to the teenage star on Instagram.

With his move to sign with a brand that is not Nike, Charlie has shown that he is not afraid to take a different road and opt for a path less traveled. Nike has been involved with the 15x major champion for the past 27 years and if reports are to be believed, the speculations about their broken relationship might not be true.

2. Will Woods Jr. sign an NIL deal with Greyson?

Charlie Woods is taking advantage of the new NIL era in college sports. NIL stands for name, image, and likeness, a policy that allows college athletes to profit from their personal brand. The policy was implemented by the NCAA in July 2021, after years of debate and battles.

The new policy gives school athletes the right to sign endorsement deals, sell merchandise, and even participate in other business ventures. But, only if they comply with the rules and regulations of state laws where their school is located. Charlie Woods, who is still in high school, could be one of the beneficiaries of this policy if he signs an NIL deal with Greyson even before joining college.

3. Deal with a brand other than Nike is a powerful statement

Charlie’s father has been associated with Nike for almost three decades. The apparel brand has been through thick and thin with Woods, and the partnership between the two has led to great laurels. However, Charlie not following his father’s lead, and not signing a deal with Nike is a very powerful statement on its own. With just this collaboration, the young golfer has showcased to the entire golf fraternity that he is not scared to chart a different course than his father.

What’s your thought on this probable rebellious decision by Charlie Woods? Do let us know in the comments below! Stay tuned to find out the further updates on Greyson-Charlie deal!

Callum Smith made a statement on his light-heavyweight debut with a frightening knockout of Lenin Castillo.

The former WBA super-middleweight (168lbs) champion is now set to challenge for the 175lbs world titles when he takes on WBC, IBF and WBO king Artur Beterbiev on Saturday night in Quebec.

Smith looked impressive in his first fight in the division, which took place on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk’s first victory over Anthony Joshua in 2021.

However, after the victory his celebrations were quickly halted.

Smith hammered Castillo with an overhand right in round two which saw him collapse backwards to the canvas.

He lay on his back shaking and the referee instantly waved the fight off.

Medical staff responded quickly and attended to Castillo, who was stretchered from the ring minutes afterwards.

Thankfully, positive updates followed despite the worrying scene.

Castillo was ‘responsive’ as he left the stadium to go to hospital.

Speaking after the final bell, Smith admitted it was unpleasant to see his Dominican foe in such distress.

“It’s not nice. I celebrated before and then I realised how bad it was,” Smith said post-fight.

“That’s the last thing you want to see. Boxing is a tough enough sport as it is and we all have families to go home to.”

Fortunately, Castillo made a full recovery and has since returned to the ring four times.

Smith has just boxed once in that period, beating Mathieu Bauderlique in 2022.

Last year was a frustrating period for the Brit, as he had to cancel a tune-up bout due to injury and then his shot at Beterbiev was postponed so he went the entire year without boxing.

Smith is hoping to get 2024 off to a far better start on Saturday night.

Anthony Joshua has been told by Francis Ngannou that his win against Otto Wallin didn’t prove he can fight well under pressure.

Former two-time heavyweight champion Joshua is booked to fight Ngannou just weeks after his stunning knockout win over Wallin. ‘AJ’ had a brilliant 2023 campaign as he bounced back after consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk by winning fights against Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius and Wallin.

Ngannou will make his second boxing appearance against Joshua after coming within touching distance of beating Tyson Fury when he made his ring debut last October. The former UFC champion admitted that he was impressed by Joshua’s win against Wallin but isn’t confident the Brit is back to his old destructive style.

“He looked amazing, respect to him and congratulations to him. He was doing his job properly, his speed was there and he was very sharp. On the other hand, I think there wasn’t a response in front of him. I think I will have a better response in front of him that will put him in uncomfortable situations and positions,” Ngannou said on The MMA Hour.

“Things will change and be different. I will not just stay there and look at him, it’s going to be different. I’m going to throw some bombs out there for him to deal with. I think he’s going to be mindful of what he’s doing. Nobody still knows what I can do, that was my first fight in boxing and like anyone else I am just improving. The gap of improvement for a beginner like me is huge.”

Ngannou dropped Fury in their fight and only lost by a single point in a controversial decision. The former UFC champion is hoping to beat Joshua and rematch Fury, insisting their second fight must take place by October. Ngannou is unsure whether Joshua will be able to take the same punches that Fury as he questioned the Brit’s chin.

“Not that he’s not a strong fighter. He’s a very tough fighter, but he’s easier to send down than Fury, and it’s harder for him to get back up than Fury. If AJ takes the punch that Fury took, I don’t guarantee that he is getting up. I have heard that he doesn’t have a chin, I am going to find out,” Ngannou added.

Deontay Wilder wants to fight on the Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou card to try and rescue his mega-fight with the Brit.

Wilder’s two-fight deal with ‘AJ’ went down the drain last month after he lost to Joseph Parker just moments before Joshua knocked out Otto Wallin. Former UFC champion Francis Ngannou has since taken Wilder’s place in the heavyweight equation as he will fight Joshua on March 8 in Saudi Arabia.

Zhilei Zhang has been touted as a potential opponent for Wilder but the fight is far from official. Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel thinks the American can redeem himself after his poor performance with one win against a big name. “ If there was an opportunity, we’d be glad to consider it. We’d love to go back there and love to be on that card if it’s possible,” he told The Sun.

“You can’t tell in advance, but I’d assume that Joshua would beat Ngannou. Then hopefully, we’ll see the Deontay of old and he wins. Of course, if those two were to happen, it would still be natural for Deontay and Joshua to meet.” Finkel used Daniel Dubois as an example of a fighter bouncing back to winning ways as he stopped Jarrell Miller following his world title loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

“Go back two fights. People were saying Daniel Dubois was a quitter. He sure didn’t quit against Jarrell Miller and redeemed himself. Three fights ago, people said things about Joshua. He looked very good in his fight with Wallin and that redeemed himself in the same way. In a similar situation, Deontay has a good opponent in the next fight and he looks the way we know him to look,” Finkel added.

“We would love Parker but that hasn’t been discussed. In either case, if Zhang was presented, that would be a big fight. If that was on the same card as the fight with Joshua and Ngannou, I think Deontay and Zhang would rival that. It would be a phenomenal show for the public again. I think the job that they did putting on all the heavyweights together on that card was wonderful.”

Wilder isn’t in Joshua’s plans for now as the Brit wants to beat Ngannou and challenge either Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight world titles. Ngannou is also targeting a rematch against Fury after controversially losing to the Brit in their crossover fight last October.

Bob Arum does not promote Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, but he does represent some men he thinks the Baltimore boxer should face and has named three potential opponents.

Davis has brushed aside all the men he has faced in the squared circle to date. His record reads 29 wins from 29, with 27 knockouts. Some of his victims include most recently Ryan Garcia, whom he stopped with a body shot in April last year, and before that Leo Santa Cruz, Mario Barrios, Isaac Cruz, Rolando Romero, Hector Luis Garcia have all fallen foul of his power since 2020.

Davis is currently the WBA lightweight champion and plenty of the biggest fights he could take going forward would involve him working with Arum’s Top Rank promotion.

Speaking to Boxing Scene Arum sang the praises of ‘Tank.’

He then named the three fighters in his stable he would like to pair him with – and beat him.

Right now, ‘Tank’ has no scheduled fights while Lopez – who has been calling out Terence Crawford – is due to come up against Jamaine Ortiz on February 8 at super-lightweight. It is rumoured that Lomachenko will fight George Kambosos Jr at some point soon for the vacant IBF lightweight title. Stevenson doesn’t currently have a bout pencilled in to defend his recently won WBC 135 belt.

Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) has been in the spotlight as much for his personal life as he has been for his ability in the ring, even spending time in jail during 2023. It remains to be seen when we see this talented fighter again, but at Big Fight Weekend, we wanted to remind you of his talent by bringing you the top 5 Gervonta Davis fights.

Top 5 Gervonta Davis Fights

How to Watch Upcoming Fights

Top 5 Gervonta Davis Fights: Ryan Garcia

On April 22, 2023, “Tank” faced Ryan Garcia in what appeared to be his toughest test thus far. Garcia started more aggressively, but after Davis knocked him down in round two, there was only one winner, with “Tank” delivering a beautifully timed body shot in round seven to win by TKO.

Top 5 Gervonta Davis Fights: Leo Santa Cruz

Davis scored one of his most memorable wins against Mexican boxer Léo Santa Cruz in October 2020. It was a competitive fight, with “Tank” in front of all three judges’ scorecards at the time of stoppage in the sixth round. The contest ended when Davis caught his opponent with a vicious, sharp left uppercut.

Liam Walsh

Back in 2017, Davis went up against unbeaten British boxer Liam Walsh. The opening two rounds were cagey before “Tank” stepped his foot on the gas and dropped Walsh after landing accurate hooks. Davis showed his class as a finisher as he pounced on Walsh, forcing referee Michael Alexander to stop the fight, awarding the American the victory by third-round TKO.

José Pedraza

On January 14, 2017, a historic moment occurred in the career of Gervonta “Tank” Davis as he won the IBF super-featherweight title — his first world title against Puerto Rican José Pedraza. Davis stopped his opponent in round seven by TKO. The American fighter began to dominate and landed a beautifully timed right hook, which sealed the win.

Rolando Romero

Rolando “Rolly” Romero was boxing well against Davis on May 28, 2022, forcing the action. “Tank” stayed patient, boxing diligently and seized on an opportunity in round six, landing a left hand that caught Romero and sent him crashing face-first into the canvas. Moments later – the fight was waved off, ensuring “Tank” successfully defended his WBA (Regular) lightweight title.

Terence Crawford seems ready to shut the door for good on Errol Spence Jr.

On Friday, the former undisputed welterweight champion from Omaha, Nebraska, offered a dour update regarding his contractually mandated rematch with Desoto, Texas’ Spence on his social media.

“I done heard it all now @ErrolSpenceJr it’s ok tho because all in all I’m glad it’s over and done with. I wish you well ma brotha,” Crawford wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

It is not clear what exactly Crawford is referring to, although it may be related to comments Spence made earlier this week, when he posted a video on social media showing that he recently underwent cataract surgery. It is the second time Spence has had serious eye surgery; he had to go under the knife to repair a detached retina ahead of a scheduled fight with Manny Pacquiao in 2021. Yordenis Ugas ended up being Spence’s late replacement and would go on to defeat Pacquiao.

Spence made it clear in a post that he believes his poor performance against Crawford was in part due to his eye condition.

“It’s been past due,” Spence wrote of his operation. “Sh!t was covering my eye. Why [do] you think I got hit with so many jabs and hooks? Still a great performance by bro [Crawford].”

Crawford’s post on Friday follows a slew of other contentious ones, with ripostes directed at his critics, Spence, newly installed IBF welterweight champion Jaron Ennis, and 140-pound titlist Teofimo Lopez.

Crawford defeated Spence last summer, dominating the southpaw en route to stopping him in nine rounds to unify all four belts in the 147-pound division. It was the second time of Crawford’s career that he achieved the undisputed distinction in a weight class, having already done so in the 140-pound division. (Crawford has since been stripped of one of his belts by the IBF.)

Spence activated his contractual right to a rematch but it has not been made clear what weight class the rematch is supposed to take place at, although Spence has preferred to fight at 154 pounds. The choice of the division ultimately requires Crawford’s approval.

A rematch had been expected to materialize later this year. Premier Boxing Champions, the outfit that backs both fighters, recently signed a new multi-year deal with Amazon Prime Video. The first “PBC on Prime” card is expected to take place in March.

Top Rank promoted Terence Crawford’s career for better parts of a decade until they split after Bud’s contract was complete soon after he beat Shawn Porter in 2021.

As the deal was coming to a close, relations became contentious.

Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said Crawford wasn’t a pay-per-view draw and that they lost money on every Crawford fight. Crawford, meanwhile, said he wouldn’t take any pay cuts and called for his release. By January 2022, Crawford sued Top Rank for breach of contract and claimed racial bias.

After a one-fight deal on BLK Prime, Crawford joined forces with Al Haymon and Premier Boxing Champions to land the career-defining fight he was seeking against Errol Spence Jr.

Crawford scored a sensational stoppage win against Spence on July 29 to win the undisputed welterweight title. In addition to a rematch versus Spence, Crawford seemingly has a series of high-profile fights lined up for him including Jermell Charlo at 154 pounds and Canelo Alvarez at 168 pounds, among others.

Crawford is even entertaining a fight against Teofimo Lopez Jr., who is tied to Top Rank.

Arum does not have any regrets about missing out on perhaps the most lucrative phase of the 36-year-old Crawford’s career.

“No. Because Terence Crawford is a great talent. We always said that. The question is can you match up his economic demands with his actual marketability, and we were not able to do that. We lost a lot of money promoting his fights,” Arum told BoxingScene.com in an interview.

“I wish him well. But I’m not prepared, and my company is not prepared, to take those risks because at least with Terence it never worked out economically, even though his performances were brilliant. They’re still brilliant.”

After previously fighting to paltry PPV numbers, Crawford’s clash against Spence was a commercial success generating nearly 700,000 PPV buys domestically and more than $21,000,000 in ticket sales.

“Terence was extraordinarily good at fighting Spence. They did very well economically but if you ran it back, I really don’t believe that it would do the numbers that the first fight did,” said Arum.

Despite still revelling in the performance of his career, Terence Crawford has hinted that he could hang up the gloves.

The welterweight from Omaha, Nebraska is a two-division undisputed champion. Back in July, he competed in what many people are calling the Fight of the Year, with Crawford himself being crowned by plenty as the Fighter of the Year for the way he so stylishly dispatched the challenge of fellow unbeaten world champion Errol Spence Jr.

There is a contracted rematch that has not yet officially materialised which has left Crawford weighing up his options having also been the four-belt champion down at super lightweight back in August 2017.

He has been linked with fights with a wide array of fighters, most notably Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, although the difference in weight classes makes that one all but an impossibility, and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, who he has been quick to dismiss.

In a new post on X, Crawford has said he might have one more, but he might not.

It seems Crawford feels under-appreciated for his work even despite topping many pound-for-pound lists.

That is not the view of Teofimo Lopez, however, who has knocked Crawford’s resume this week and called it overrated as well as calling out ‘Bud’ for a fight. Crawford was quick to respond and call Lopez ‘a p***y.’

As for his next fight, he also hinted recently that it may be off the table.

In a recent development, Floyd Mayweather has spoken out about the Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero fight. The fight is expected to unfold on 5th May, later this year. Meanwhile, his new mentor, Floyd, has promised a spectacular showing.

After ‘King Ry’ defeated Oscar Duarte in December last year, he has been in talks with Teofomo Lopez, Rolly Romero, and most prominently, Devin Haney. However, Lopez declined the fight offer, and the fight with Haney fell apart publicly, leaving Romero as the prime contender. So, Floyd took it upon himself to promote Garcia’s upcoming bout.

Floyd Mayweather Garcia’s promoter?

Turning to Instagram, the former world champion shared a poster of the fight and penned a note for the boxing world. “@kingryan Vs. @rolliesss One the most anticipated fights this year. I guarantee this will be action packed. This one right here is bombs away,” wrote Mayweather.

It’s worth mentioning that the pair were first spotted together strolling through Las Vegas. Following that, Garcia backed out of a fight against Devin Haney, which started rumors in the boxing world of Floyd influencing Garcia’s decision.

Both Garcia and Haney had agreed to fight each other on X (formerly Twitter), going as far as tweeting at each other. However, following Garcia’s change in decision, Haney and Garcia started a war of words on the platform. Now, joining the fray, Oscar De La Hoya, Ryan’s actual promoter, has made his feelings known about Garcia and Mayweather’s pair-up.

Oscar De La Hoya responds to Floyd Mayweather – Ryan Garcia pair-up

De La Hoya and Garcia are engrossed in an ongoing lawsuit concerning Garcia’s contract with Oscar’s Golden Boy Promotions. The feud between them started after ‘King Ry’ suffered his first career loss and felt abandoned by his promoter when Oscar failed to show up after the fight. Since then, Garcia has taken a liking to Oscar’s former rival ‘Money’ Mayweather.

Initially, Oscar seemed fine with them getting together. He even asked Garcia to soak up all the knowledge he could get from Mayweather, claiming it could only have a positive impact on Garcia’s boxing abilities. However, that changed when Oscar turned to his Instagram story, asking Floyd to back off if he was trying to promote Garcia.

Golden Boy has worked with Ryan Garcia since he turned pro, and together have made him the biggest star in boxing. We will make his fight with Rolly a huge event, as we always do. Floyd, if you want to give Ryan the secret to defense in the ring, that’s great. Other than that, if you are still a promoter like it says here, f*** off,” De La Hoya wrote in his story.

With Garcia finally settling on his next opponent, Floyd and Oscar are seemingly vying for the position of a promoter – for Garcia. However, Garcia’s newfound fondness for Mayweather suggests the old rivalry between Oscar and Floyd is about to reignite. Why do you think Floyd stepped in to promote Garcia’s potential fight? What will Oscar do next?
